I thought Blake doesn't want props with his dunks, must be Kenny Smith's damn idea.

I guess it wouldn't be a dunk contest without Kenny Smith ruining it in some way.

Something we've asked for in past Wishlists, though I've always wondered just how well it would work out.

It'd be interesting and possibly a lot of fun, especially for My Player-type modes; I don't think you could use it without being locked to a player without it becoming very disorientating. I'd probably stick with a broadcast style cam or one of the other more traditional angles more often than not though.

Getting back to the dunk contest, I hope they don't pull the camera during the contest itself. I think it would ultimately take away from whatever dunk he performs, short of it being a 360 between-the-legs from the free throw line while blindfolded. The impressive part about a dunk should not be "OMG HE'S GOT A CAMERA STRAPPED TO HIS HEAD LOL".

If they get that to a jumbotron, it still does not make sense to me.

It'd look cool, but even then he could do a fairly basic but emphatic dunk and the selling point would be "OMG THAT'S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE FROM HIS POV WHEN HE DUNKS!!!!~!~!!", overshadowing the creativity of the dunk (or lackthereof) and by no means worthy of the high score it would likely get.

Perhaps that's taking the contest too seriously but I've been a fan of the event pretty much as long as I've been a fan of basketball and it's still a contest, so it's a shame to see props and gimmicks water down the creativity of the dunks themselves and of course the format of the contest having a few issues too. In the grand scheme of things it's not the biggest problem facing the NBA by any stretch of the imagination, but it should be entertaining and exciting and it's unfortunate when it doesn't live up to the hype.

 That "one-step-to-the-free-throw-line" dunk by Josh Smith in '04!

i think it could be done on the ps3, using the sixaxis to turn the head/eyes and then elite style controls with the left stick for feet and right stick for hands.

i don't think blake should actually wear a camera in the contest, but show a video from 1st person before he does it. i tihnk it'll build the suspense.

It will only look cool if he does a 720 dunk other than that it's unnecessary to have those i reckon...

Still too gimmicky for my liking. I think he's got enough athleticism and creativity to avoid resorting to props and gimmicks.

Jennings withdraws, Derozan in
Brandon Jennings, the Milwaukee Bucks point guard who has missed 14 games with a fractured fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot, has withdrawn as a contestant in the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend, NBA.com has learned.
....
However, the NBA announced Thursday morning that Toronto’s DeMar DeRozan – the runner-up in last year’s Sprite Slam Dunk Contest — will replace Jennings this year in Los Angeles.

Most likely for the best, what with Jennings come off his foot injury. Hope DeRozan puts on a show.

I don't think Deandre Jordan doesn't really have enough hops to get that creative.

Little bit disappointed, not seeing what Jennings can do, but DeRozan is a sure-thing to get some nice dunks.

The very last one is probably my favourite. Looking back to his performance last year:

A little better than I remembered, his first two dunks were his best.

He would got a good score for the first dunk if he hadn't missed it in his first attempt , same as J.R. SMith with the behind the back dunk a while back

Smith got robbed in that contest, there aren't supposed to be penalties for replacements and that was the first time it had been done in an NBA dunk contest. DeRozan's first dunk should've garnered a higher score, though it has been done before so I'm not sure about a 50.

I have a feeling that if Blake Griffin is going to use that camera, he is going to attempt a dunk where he looks down into the rim.
