███ Shock for the Trailblazers: Roy out for season
PORTLAND (AP)
Things just don't get better for the often injury-plagued Portland Trailblazers. Four time All-Star Brandon Roy has broken his foot in Portland's 104-106 loss @Charlotte and will be out for the complete 2010/11 campaign, including Playoffs.
"Brandon will undergo surgery on his broken foot", Blazers GM Rich Cho said and added "that he will also get his meniscus repaired on both knees". The latter will cause Roy to miss the post season.
Brandon Roy is averaging 22.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. At 37-31 the Blazers are 2nd in the Northwest Division behind the Thunder (41-26) and stand at 7th in the Western Conference, one game in front of the Denver Nuggets.
███ Seattle signs Vassilis Spanoulis
SEATTLE (AP)
The Seattle Supersonics organization today announced that they have signed Greek point guard Vassilis Spanoulis for the remainder of the season.
With Beno Udrih and Pooh Jeter out due to injury, the Sonics only had Luther Head left as point guard.
"We tried to add some depth and we think Vassilis can really help us with his well-experienced play", Coach and GM Chris Hova said.
The 29 year old Greek played one season for Olympiakos and averaged 10.1 points and 5 assists per game in the Euro League. Spanoulis hopes to get a follow-up contract if he convinces and wants to show his skills to other team.
"Vassilis feels like it is time to have another try in the NBA", his agent told media.
███ Rondo, Cs on fire
BOSTON (AP)
The Bostons Celtics have been on a run recently and one big reason for their success is five year point guard Rajon Rondo.
The Celtics have won nine of their last 10 games and Rondo is averaging 16 points and 13 assists over that span. In their last game vs Indiana (111-126W), Rondo had 19 points, 9 rebounds, 13 assists and 5 steals. Paul Pierce added 37 points.
The Cs have the 2nd best record in the East with 45-21 with only Miami being better at 54-14. Rondo is averaging 13.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 9.9 assists as well as 2.2 steals per game.
███ Streaking Spurs are still there
SAN ANTONIO
The often written off San Antonio Spurs are back in the title contention race after winning 9 of their last 10 games and five in a row.
At 40-27 the Spurs managed to grab the fourth spot in the West only two games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Greg Popovich's team only lost to the Heat in the last two weeks but were able to take revenge yesterday with a 101-99 win @Miami. The Spurs also beat the Lakers, Rockets and Thunder in that ten game span.
A big reason for the recent wins is Tim Duncan. The four time NBA Champion scored posted 39/19 vs Los Angeles and 41/16 vs the Sonics. He had at least 12 boards in his last six games and is averaging 12.1 boards per game, the best since 2003-2004.
