ESPN's Jake Rowell wrote:THE TORONTO RAPTORS: PLAYOFFS IN SIGHT?
Now that the dust has settled in the Free Agency and the NBA Season almost under way, we take a look at one of the teams that lost their superstar: The Toronto Raptors.
The Raptors are a very decent team when it comes to their backcourt, which includes Jerryd Bayless, who they acquired in a deal with New Orleans that sent Jarrett Jack, David Anderson, and Marcus Banks to the Hornets. Bayless, out of Arizona, is what the doctor ordered; a young, speedy point guard, who can pass and shoot perfectly. He will end up being the starter according to Jay Triano, over Jose Calderon, the star from Spain. He does not really have consistency, and often turns the ball over, takes low quality shots, and fouls too much. But Coach Triano has made it clear, the Point Guard position will be an open competition all year, so do not be surprised if we see line-up changes mid-season.
At the Shooting Guard position, we have Sonny Weems, a bright guy out of Arkansas. He proved that he could start in Training Camp, in which Triano said that Weems "shocked" him with his shot selection and rebounding abilities. "The kid is like DeMar [DeRozen]. Athletic, and doesn't choke under pressure. In fact, a training camp game went to overtime and Weems hit a tough three pointer to give his team the win. On the flip side though, we have another could-be starter. Leandro Barbosa, acquired in the trade that sent Hedo to Phoenix. Barbosa is known as the Brazilian Bolt, for his speed and quickness. He is also a good ball handler, and could play Point at any time. The Raptors have depth in this position, plenty of it.
Small Forward. One word describes it. DeMar DeRozen. The Athletic man out of USC is showing signs of taking off to a whole new level. This potential All-Star is one of the reasons Toronto fans come to the ACC, to see him dunk on players. He is also a very good jump shooter, but struggles on Free Throws, which makes his Three Point Play ability a bit less impressive, but nevertheless, awesome. The Raptors acquired Linas Kleiza in Free Agency, for 35 million, but many critics, including I, think that Jerry Colangelo, spent too much on him. He will more likely be a role player, so that 35 million you threw at him, not so good. They also have Peja Stojakovic, who they acquired in that deal with New Orleans. They won't see him until mid-season, or even later, as he is out with a knee injury. Don't sleep on Julian Wright, who might kick butt off the bench.
Power Forward has almost no depth. Starter Amir Johnsonhas a great jumpshot, but struggles on rebounding, probably because of Bargs taking all of his rebounds. There is no question that Amir can play, but can he play consistently is the question. His backup Ed Davis, who they acquired in the 2010 draft, won't do much either. Sure, he is talented, but when Reggie Evans comes back from injury, he will lose playing time. They also have Joey Dorsey who has yet to blossom, but hopefully will in the next years.
Center position, the worst spot for the Raptors. They have star Andrea Barginani, who is an amazing jumpshooter and makes great cuts to the basket, but does not play defense, hence the nickname "Anrea". If Bargs gets injured, they have absolutely no one to even help him. Solomon Alabi out of Florida State might help, but a reasonable solution would be Chris Hunter, who is in talks with the Raptors to sign with them after the Knicks game.
Overall, the Raptors are a fairly decent team. Expect Bargs, DeRozen, and Bayless to lead the team.

Chris Hunter, the former Warrior is close to signing a contract with the Toronto Raptors to help with their center problem. The deal, according to sources, will be a One-Year, 1.35 million dollars, with a team option.
Hunter, who went to Michigan, played for AZS Koszalin (Poland) and a team in Belgium before being signed by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. He then was signed by the Knicks, and then was waived. He appeared in 60 games for the Warriors, averaging 4.5 points per game.

Scout tells Iesalnieks to play in Europe
An unamed scout has told potential NBA draftee Valdis Iesalnieks to think about Europe, after his showing at a recent college game against Montana State.
"He told me that the NBA is too good for me. Not sure that he is a reliable source though."
Valdis had 5 points and 8 rebounds in the win.
Martin leads UCLA in win
In a game that had UCLA winning from the start, starting Center Julian Martin dominated his teammate Valdis Iesalnieks in scoring, rebounding and blocks.
"I don't want to talk about my teammate's game, talk about my game." said Martin after the game, in which he had 14 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
Cruise and Earnest lead Duke to victory over Austin Peay
Carl Cruise and Slamdunk Earnest lead the Duke Blue Devils to victory over Austin Peay. Earnest and Cruise were a two man show, with Cruise scoring 23 points, and Earnest having 15.
"Carl [Cruise] and I, we're tight buds. We're roommates, and we both have the same dream, to bring another national championship to Duke."
Shootout between Goodson and Koukoulis
An abosolute shootout was in store for fans that came to the Great Britain-Greece game at the OACA Olympic Indoor Hall. Timothy Goodson, a Top 5 hopeful, squared off against the young George Koukoulis. They both played for Olympiakos (with Goodson leaving for FC Barcelona) and hated eachother. Goodson and Pops Mensah-Bonsu led the Great Britain team to an upset over the heavily favored Greece team, 85-81.
Pops had 25 points and 16 rebounds, and Goodson had a staggering 35 points and 19 assists.
"He is the next Rondo." said a scout.
Koukoulis however, had a solid 23 points and 5 rebounds, not astounding numbers, but enough to impress some NBA scouts.
"He needs to improve on defense," said the scout. "You see, Goodson was burning him left and right, and he did nothing about it."
Otoo dominates Charlotte
Zee Otoo led his NC State Wolfpack to a win over their in-state opponent, the Charlotte 49ers.
Otoo was soaring for rebounds and slamming them in the faces of the NBA scouts watching him.
"You see, this season, we won't be second to North Carolina," said Otoo, who had 28 points and 9 rebounds. "We're going all the way this year. We won't lose to Duke or UNC. It's our time."
Perchard upset with lack of hustle
The Florida Gators barely beat the Nevada Wolfpack, and star Mike Perchard isn't impressed with the effort that his teammates put in.
"I mean come on, allowing 87 points? At home? We were a dissapointment to our fans. We need to step it up against Ole Miss, because they will run us to the ground."
Perchard had 27 points, and the Gators won 95-87.
Migs Santos has had enough
According to sources close to Iowa backup Migs Santos, a NBA hopeful is looking toward the Euro League.
The source told ESPN's Andy Katz that Santos was sick of the hate, racism, and lack of playing time he got.
"He's fed up. His talent level can absolutely get him a contract on a Olympiakos or a FC Barcelona 2nd squad, which is equal to a NCAA first squad."
