and main thing, you will not enjoy playing 2k11.
about the yellow downward, it's their stats. practice your team/players on weekly practice to make them improve

You can set specific lineups for things like your main 5 players off the bench, your best 3 point shooters, your best defensive lineup or your quickest lineup, etc. You can manage your players playing time, and their roles on the team. You can sign free agents, release players, draft rookies during the offseason, and trade players to try and improve your team.
You can schedule practices on non-game days to temporarily improve player ratings(green arrow up) at the cost of fatigue. Practicing too much can improve your bench players ratings so much that they will start to lose morale because they think they should have a better role and then they will get the yellow down arrow indicating that their ratings are dropping.
There is nothing wrong with simulating games in association mode other than the ridiculous home court advantage.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Perfect preseason, new arena, some new guys, and definitely a new season.
It started suitably for a team with such towering expectations as the Magic crushed the Washington Wizards, 120-89, in their regular season opener on Thursday at the new Amway Center.
Vince Carter had 26 points on a 8-11 shooting to lift the Magic to an easy victory over the Washington Wizards in the debut of No. 1 overall pick John Wall who had just 12 points along with eight assists.
“It’s always a nice feeling to open a new building and get a nice win first and foremost," Vince Carter said.
After finishing the preseason perfect (7-0) and won by an average margin of 25 points, Magic showed their dominance in both ends of the floor. They shoot 14-30 from three while Wizards just nailed one of their 18 attempts.
Dwight Howard finished the night with a double-double, 21 points, 18 rebounds along with 5 block shots, while Rashard Lewis registered 18 points. Ryan Anderson contributed 10 points while Jameer Nelson had eight points and seven assists.
The Wizards were simply no match. But Gilbert Arenas coming from a dismal season, led the Wizards with 25 points and seven assists, but he committed seven turnovers. Josh Howard chipped in 15 points and grabbed eight boards, while Kirk Hinrich leave the game midway third after his achilles was torn.
The Magic will travel down to South Beach for an epic showdown with the Super Friends and the Miami Heat. It’s the home opener for the Heat and it will be the first time the two Sunshine State rivals collide since Miami’s big offseason additions._________________________________________________________________________________________
