What's happening with Caron Butler?

Thu Mar 11, 2004 6:57 pm

Caron Butler is experiencing a sophomore slump. After a fairly good rookie campaign that ranked behind Yao and Amare last season, his playing time has been reduced and his numbers are down.

2002/2003: 15.4 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.8 spg in 36.6 mpg
2003/2004: 8.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1 spg in 29.2 mpg

His shooting percentages are down across the board, and he's been in and out of the starting five after beginning the season on the injured list.

So what's happening with him? Has he fallen out of favour or is he still suffering from injuries?

Getting Lamar Odom and Dwayne Wade I think. Miami aquired good offensive players, who need attention in the offense

He's not the main man on the team anymore, thats really what happening. He also got injured in the season's start and hasn't till recently been able to fit in with the other guys (Wade, Odom, Jones) on the court.

Last Year, Eddie was injured a lot, and it was just him (Caron) and Rasual. Rasual has been great off the bench though, and is a free agent this year, many teams should look at him.

Caron also never found is storke which is shown by his 2-22 three point shooting, and started off the season with his FG% going to I think even low 30%. He also isn't getting the same minutes as last year, but he's steped it up as of late and is rebounding and defending so thats good.

He died of cancer last thursday i believe.

Nah. I think he's just gotten really cold since his injury, not being able to find his rhythm etc. He might bounce back before the season's end though.

Well, some players might take time to get back from knee injuries... Butler also has to figure his role with the team...

don't forget about the injuries he acquired during the offseason... :(

Thanks for the info. (Y) I figured injuries and the acquisition of Odom and Wade something to do with it. After Butler's rookie season, I figured that he'd be a much bigger part of their future, even though the Heat signed Odom and drafted Wade.

In the Heat game I saw he just didn't get very many touches. When he got the ball he showed he could do stuff with it, but didn't get theball much at all. Wade and Odom really dominate the ball.

last year the heat had no one to score, of course he played well, stats-wise.

he should get traded

sophomore jinx and being injured really doesnt help when the face of your team is changed. he is now 4th (wade, odom, jones) or 5th option (grant) on miami offense so i dont see his numbers jumping back to rookie season status -- he'll probably evolve in the long run into a very good defensive player with eddie jones as an example and in a miami system. will probably jump back to 15+ ppg in a couple of years as jones and grant get older or traded.

Caron Butler played a decent game today. Did a bit of everything with 30 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. (Y) Shot 10 for 19, Played 40 minutes and only registered 1 TO.

I hope he gets back in form.

I would say scoring 30 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks shows that he is back in form

It's nice to see him having impressive games again. I'd like to see him stay healthy and continue to play like this. (Y)

He's 4th option, Grant isn't really an option, he just gets his in the flow of the game.

In March (not counting 30 point game), he's been averaging 11.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.38 steals in 30.5 minutes. He's also shooting 44.9% from the field.

Last 5 games: 11.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.80 steals, 52.2% FG, and 87.5% FT.

I would say consistancy shows that he's back in form.

eh this topic hasn't been replied to in over a month :?

Fri May 07, 2004 7:55 am

Yeah and it's updated with a reply for now.

He said he's doing better of late. So, he's updating on how Butler's doing.

Fri May 07, 2004 2:49 pm

the reason he was "slumping" was that he wasn't 100% from his knee injury.
