Fizer on the chopping block...maybe...

Fizer facing waiver in favor of minor league guard?

The Article wrote:Chicago Tribune: The Bulls are still considering signing a backup point guard to a 10-day contract, a move that would necessitate waiving another player. Marcus Fizer is a strong candidate.

Jannero Pargo, a Robeson High School grad who is expected to clear waivers Tuesday after being released by Toronto, is one possibility. Another is guard Jemeil Rich, the current player of the week in the Continental Basketball Association. The 5-foot-10-inch Rich is averaging 15.5 points and 2.3 assists for the Gary Steelheads.

GM John Paxson and coach Scott Skiles spent time after practice Monday defending their philosophy that has resulted in veteran Corie Blount being waived and Eddie Robinson sitting so that the organization can look at unproven players now instead of waiting for the summer league.

"There's value in wanting guys to adhere to a belief that we have as an organization—that is to work, to do the things that we ask," Paxson said. "I guess you can make a case that maybe some more talented basketball players are sitting right now. But that's not always the be-all and end-all. Scott and I aren't going to back down from how we feel this game should be approached. That's the bottom line."

"Did those guys account for a lot of wins over the past two or three years that I'm not aware of?" added coach Skiles.

So what should be done? Should the Bulls cut ties with Fizer by simply releasing him now, or should they keep him as a possible throw-in in a trade this offseason?

It's a shame they didn't deal Fizer when they had the chance. But whatever. I can see them leaving the core guys on the team, pickin up a rookie, and sucking all over again next year.

I hope he isn't chasing a $100mil contract and leadership of a team. He might be a little disappointed. Perhaps Tim Floyd might be interested in bringing him to New Orleans.

I agree. It's a shame they went ahead and picked him in the first place when they already had Elton Brand (then Tyson Chandler and for a while Donyell Marshall). I guess Mike Miller would have been the only other decent option as the fourth pick (since they got Crawford anyway) that year.

hey the NBA has run crazy i've never seen so many free agents signing and call ups late in this season ... now teams no longer wait for the summer league to test players, they waive some to sign now others ... they completely sink their season

a promotion / relegation system in NBA like we have in Europe wouldn't be a bad thing at all when you see that ... :s

fizer hasn't been able to crack the rotation on one of the league's worst teams and since he's come into the league, he hasn't improved.

not a lot of value there.

personally i'd like to see the him latch on to another team and resurrect his career. this guy just needs a chance. the one thing fizer can do is score when given consistent minutes. he's overly aggressive and spaztic this year when he was playing because he was always looking over his shoulder.

given the recent history of ex-bulls, i wouldn't be surprised to see fizer turn into a halfway decent player

Don't say that. After muttering about Fizer since the Bulls drafted him, I couldn't stand to see that happen. Nothing personal against Fizer, but as you mentioned it's

As far as being given a chance, as I said Tim Floyd might be interested in his former player (that's just me speculation, I haven't read any rumours to that effect). Mash is banged up and the Hornets could use another player who can play both forward positions.
