Owen Good of Kotaku.com has posted another E3 write-up, touting the rivalry between NBA Elite and NBA 2K as the "juiciest story for the year in sports gaming" while noting that both games had quiet demonstrations with NBA Elite 11's hands-on demonstration behind closed doors and NBA 2K11's hands-off presentation during the event. He also mentions a conversation with EA Sports President Peter Moore, noting Moore's patience and trust in David Littman in taking the series to the next level, suggesting the franchise is not destined for the chopping block if Elite does not top 2K's sales or achieve all its goals within one production cycle. Check it out here.

This is a major team sport that as a video game hasn't sniffed the hallowed 90 Metacritic score since 2002

Can anyone explain to me the flying fuck important significance of a Metacritic score compared to the other groups that give out ratings or scores? Sounds like companies are willing to give out sexual favors just so they could get a high Metacritic score.

Somehow it's become the yardstick. I tend to think that when it comes to reviewing games, describing the ins and outs, the good and the bad and listing the pros and cons is much more useful than a score out of 10 or 100 or a letter grade.

A metacritic score is basically an average rating from sources that review the product. Getting a high metacritic score on your last game can get developers more freedom on their next game, especially if the sales are high, too. It's kind of like the MVP voting.
