Worst Dunk Contest Ever?

Postby - Ace - on Sun Feb 15, 2004 1:49 pm

Other than the the Jrich dunk and the successful dunks by Fred Jones, overall the dunk contest was terrible. And can anyone explain the rules, why Jrich could keep dunking his first dunk but in the second dunk attempt he couldn't have unlimited dunks?

i agree, they shoulda gave j-rich a higher score on the last one so it would be a tie so they could each get one sucessful dunk to decide because they both missed there dunk in the finals.

oh and the reason j-rich got to keep dunking on his first dunk in the finals was cause it wasn't a attempt to be considered one the ball either has to go in or hit the rim(unless they like shoot it and it hits the rim)

Yeh , that dunk comp was pretty crappy...except for the off the back board between the legs ...which was nice :D ...but rahter then that ..its freakin sucked ....

J rich stole carters outbounds windmill !!!
Carter would of won it easily , if he was in it ....he is the only player that i think could do a 360 elbow hang ...j rich does not have long enough arms

AHHHHHH!!!!

im so mad with this year's dunk contest. the emotion was building up and then BAM, jrich just kills it with his second dunk. but then... nba's stupid rules decide to ruin it for us.

first of all, couple of fred jones dunks werent as good as what the judges gave him... he got 2 50's off of regular dunks, although i like his first dunk in the final round. then, fred jones's accidental lay-up was given a score. that was just lame. and only 1 replaceable miss screwed up jrich for attempting some of the sickest dunks. i give mad props to jrich for at least attempting some crazy ass stuff. not many guys dont have guts to attempt those because they are TOO afraid that they might miss it.

Carter would of won it easily , if he was in it ....he is the only player that i think could do a 360 elbow hang ...j rich does not have long enough arms

he probably would make the dunks that jrich missed. BUT, he's too pansy to enter the contest.

That was a crappy dunk contest. There is no way Fred Jones' last dunk was an attempt it was bullshit he didn't even dunk it how can it be called a dunk if he didn't go anywhere near the ring?? I liked ricky davis' dunk and the off the backboard through the legs. Apart form that pretty bad stuff. Good work NBA on making the rules screw the game! the dunks in the Rookie game were 20 katrillion times better

I hope whoever plans this event(I can't even call it a contest anymore) realizes that the best way to attract viewers and get positive reviews is to bring the contest back to the way it was. Stop with all this bullshit in making it like 20 minutes and having only four guys. We need to make it longer with more guys and get rid of the age limit. Why is it that the Three Point Contest has the best shooters in the game, yet the dunk contest doesn't have the best dunkers? It's ridiculous...

omg... im still fuming...

thanks a lot NBA for ruining contests every year with these stupid rules...

btw, to all those who are saying "all the dunks have been tried", damn can you be any more wrong. if jrich just made his 360 between the leg and 360 elbow in the rim, he woulda torn down the entire staples center.

sooooo bitter rite now. :x

It pissed me off BIG time. It came down to who had the best missed dunk in the end.

J-Rich should have went conservative in the end instead of the kill shot. An off the window 360 would have worked.

   :!: :!: :!:

Damn, I feel ripped off.

All J-Rich did was variations of VC's. VC set the standard and I doubt anyone will ever come close to his performance in 2000.

Thats pretty nice

I was very dissapointed, J-Rich's were nice, the out of bounds one was a little different than Carter's, since Carter dunked it on the opposite side.

The off backboard was sick.

The NBA needs a judging system, badly. Most of the judges couldn't even dunk in their career. Fred Jones' dunks were mediocre and overrated and he got high scores. The NBA needs to stop this 'missed dunk counts as an attempt' rule, no one's ever going to try anything insane with that rule. By the records, Fred Jones won but everyone knows J-Rich won, his dunk in the 1st round was amazing and he almost pulled off that 360 elbow in rim dunk.

Richardson really won my respect. He's a truly creative dunker, he's not just hops. He can match up with any of the great dunkers (in this context, not in real games) of all-time, Carter, Jordan, 'Nique, J.

There's a quote from Minstrel of BBB.net, I couldn't agree with him more.

I am pissed off....The NBA will be all over this one...I expect the News to start hyping this Contest up....The Press will probably make headlines saying "Dunk Contest a Flop" or "Fans angered in Contest"

Very poor contest... Fred Jones' grades were overrated... The end was pathetic... The judges didn't know what to do...

Gotta have at least 6 or 8 players on it, no "2nd try" rules... you gotta chances till you get a proper dunk, (N)

I gotta agree with everyone else here. It was a terrible dunk contest and Chris Anderson got ripped off by the judges on his dunks. Fred Jones' one hander in the Finals was a nice one though.

Out of all the dunk contests I've watched (started watching in 2000, I think), the one that featured Vince Carter was by far the best. And then it got progressively worse (what an oxymoron) until last year's which restored my faith in the dunk contest, a faith only to be shattered by this year's pathetic outing. The only highlight for me personally was JRich's off-the-glass. I agree with everyone else that there has to be rule changes in order for the dunk contest to be top-notch quality.

Yea, I think there was bad judging there... That windmill reverse by Chris Anderson should have got more than a 42....
All in all, it was a really crappy, boring dunk contest, if Richardson made that last dunk (the off the back board 360 thru the legs) then I would have thought differently about it... dissapointing.. Fred Jones' first dunk was crap..... anyone who could dunk could've done that..... They shouldn't have any of that attempts rule.... just go back to the old system where they are given 3 minutes or something to make 2 dunks

Well they had the creativity going i thought.
J-Rich last dunk woulda been awesome, but unfortuneatley he couldnt control it.
i dont know what Jones was trying to do on that 2nd attmept of his in the final.

but i thought j-rich had the best one of then ight with the off the backboard thru the legs.

i liked ricky's to :)

Couldnt agree more.

The rules should be 3 dunks per person in the first round, and 2 dunks in the second. You keep going until you miss.

Also a playoff type contest, I think may be better. It should start with 8 guys, then go down to the 4 best ones, then to the 2 in the finals, and then a winner.

Obviously the judges couldn't count.. I'm pretty sure they were planning to tie it but had forgotten J-Rich got 45 on his last dunk, not 50.

that was by far the worst dunk contest ever i mean fred jones who is 6'4 basically did nothing those dunks were not evn close to 50 i would of given him a 45....the think is that 5'7 spud webb did those dunks in 86 and jones just repeated them...also anderson got ripped cause none of those judges have a clue about dunking...they should of had past dunk champions give scores...they need to pay more money so vince and kobe will participate

Fred Jones is 6'2, Fratello was just saying garbage.

The judges for sure need to be changed, and the rules too.

The judges completely ruined the dunk contest. I am so pissed at the nba cause I was waiting for this forever.

My respects go out to J - Rich case at least he had the balls to try some cool dunks.
