October 26th, 2010

Probable Starters
PG. Derrick Rose
SG. Dwyane Wade
SF. Luol Deng
PF. Josh Smith
C. Joakim Noah

Backcourt: Despite trading Kirk Hinrich to the Hawks for Defensive Player of the Year Josh Smith, the Bulls have upgraded the point guard positions with the acquisitions of Jason Williams, Dwyane Wade (who can play the point) as well as their prized rookie Evan Turner (like Wade, can play the point). Derrick Rose is now an All-Star and has been recognized as a top 5 point guard with his All-NBA Third team selection last season despite the Bulls' horrid record. Rose is unquestionably the team’s present and future at the position and his growth as a leader and a point guard will only continue with the former Sacramento star Jason Williams on-board.

In the 09-10 season, Rose averaged team-highs of 23.2 points and 7.7 assists per game. While undoubtedly his skill level has improved, expect both areas to experience dips as he would now be sharing the ball with the great Dwyane Wade on offense. Both Rose and Wade operates with isolation as well as pick and rolls so the ball should be in either one's hands 80% of the time during their time on the floor.

As traditional, back-to-the-basket centers become extinct, point guards are on the rise. Every team is looking for their own Chris Paul, Deron Williams or Steve Nash and the Bulls have certainly found their franchise cornerstone. If he can reduce his turnovers, his on/off court numbers will improve. Rose averaged a team high 3.9 turnovers in the 09-10 campaign, but with Jason Williams here to teach him, expect this to fall rapidly.

As for the 2-guard spot, the Bulls have great depth with the undisputed starter in Dwyane Wade and sixth man in Evan Turner. The Athletic James White and 3 point shooter Kyle Korver could also play spot minutes at this spot if that is the need of the team (e.g. Injuries)

What Wade brings to this team is his invaluable all-rounded game, besides having the ability to average 30 points a night, Wade is one of the best defenders in the NBA, and should help the Bulls improve their defensive efficiency into one of the league's best. Additionally, as the former NBA Finals MVP, Wade carries with him the experience and poise of a champion, his years of up and down following injuries are also valuable experiences that would benefit the Bulls greatly.

Frontcourt: The Bulls frontcourt is as stacked as their backcourt. With the addition of All-Star and DPOY Josh Smith joining forces with fellow All-Star Luol Deng and the hardworking Joakim Noah. Smith brings to the Bulls his tremendous athletic ability on defense that they have lacked since letting Tyrus Thomas go, his Shot Blocking ability and awareness on defense that gets him all the steals and rejections are second to none. Expect him to Anchor the Bulls defense much like how Kevin Garnett once anchored the Boston defense upon his arrival there.

Furthermore, the Bulls have great depth up front with Taj Gibson being the primary backup, and with the resigning of veteran Brad Miller, who brings toughness, leadership, great court vision and his ability to stretch the floor. The Bulls have also added former number 1 overall pick Kwame Brown, who has had a career of being labeled as a bust, but should be able to contribute off the bench. Former Jazz Kyle Korver brings valuable three point shooting that the Bulls otherwise lack severely.

Injuries are a concern, as Brad Miller and Joakim Noah has already taken turns in receiving light injuries during training camp. Vinny Del Negro would need to monitor their situations carefully as come playoff time, they would be needed desperately.

Deng and Smith's offensive numbers would drop as the offense would be entirely in Rose and Wade's hands, but don't be surprised if they are able to make the All-Star team once again with their defense and team success, these two are both All-Star materials, especially in the thinned Eastern Conference.

Season Forecast: Even with the major changes that would require time for the new guys to get comfortable. The Bulls are way too talented to be thinking a lower seeded playoff entry. They have the talent, they have the youth, and they have the required experience. With the balance of power in Cleveland shifting to the West (LeBron headed to Kings), the spot is vacant for Chicago to take, even with the Wizards upgrading with Bosh and the Heat getting a solid group in Boozer, Salmons, Beasley and O'Neal; 50+ wins and a top 3 seed should be an ideal goal for the Bulls.

Offense: B
The addition of Wade and Turner adds to Chicago's backcourt firepower, but interior scoring is still a concern yet addressed.

Defense: A
With Smith and Wade on-board and Rose improving on the defensive end, Chicago is set here.

Experience: B
Vinny's coaching is still of concern, but the players are experienced enough, even if most are still under 30 or even under 25.

Health: C
Minor injuries arriving one after the other even before the season began, the Bulls might want to hire Tim Grover just to be safe.

Started the preseason just against Miami, lol. Rose is now letting Wade score, I see, and doing more the passing job.

Your team is fantastic! I hate D-Wade more than any other in this league, so you'll be hard to root for, but I like Turner and the rest of the squad. J-Smoove was a great, if somewhat unrealistic pickup.

Chapter 5

It was the 2010 Season Opener in Chicago, IL. The crowd is buzzing with anticipation at the new look Bulls, and in the meantime, the championship contending Dallas Mavericks were getting ready in the visitor's locker-room.
"Right guys, I don't care how many moves they've made. We are winning this thing tonight!" yelled Jason Kidd "Mavs on Three. 1, 2, 3 MAVS!"
Over in the Chicago locker-room, Derrick Rose and the Bulls are pumped and ready to deliver a statement to the league. Dwyane Wade in particular was focused and ready to go. "First game back home, I've got to make this good" he thought to himself.

The Chicago Bulls announcer Ray Clay, who was brought back to replace Edwards this season, stated the Mavericks stating lineups in a monotonous tone before the United Center dimmed the lights and played the traditional Sirius theme with the announcement of their starters.

"and now! The Starting Lineups for YOUR. CHICAGO BULLS!" he called out "PLEASE WELCOME BACK, THE CHICAGO NATIVE FROM MARQUETTE. 6'4". DWYANE WADE!" Clay had to scream to be heard over the loud and wild crowd who were giving Wade a standing ovation. Wade went over to center court, kissed the court before going back to greet his fellow teammates.
"At Forward, From Oak Hill Academy, 6'9". JOSH SMITH!" The crowd didnt cheer as loud, but stayed on their feet to give Smith a warm welcome as a member of the Chicago Bulls.
"The Man In the Middle! From Florida. 6'11". JOAKIM NOAH!" Noah Jumped up from his seat and did a chest bump with Smith and Wade before turning around to greet the next man.
"A 6'9" forward from Duke! LUOL DENG!" Clay paused for a moment and allowed the crowd to go crazy before doing his next announcement "FROM CHICAGO, AT GUARD, 6'3". DERRICK ROSE!" Rose hi-fived his teammates before allowing them to from a circle, Joakim Noah got in the middle and they hyped themselves up for the game. "WHAT TIME IS IT!?" Josh Smith yelled out "GAME TIME!" The guys chanted in unison before heading off to the court or, in the case of the reserves, back to the bench.

Wade gave Nowitzki a hand shake before heading off to his position, next to Caron Butler. He smiled. "You are going down Caron"

✧✧✧✧✧

The Mavs and Bulls both played hard and well from the start with Dwyane Wade dunked in his first points as a Bull to start the game.Jason Kidd then led the Mavericks to a 25-24 lead to end the quarter, but starting from the second quarter, Wade and Rose began to play in sync and delivered picture perfect basketball. Josh Smith swatted shots like crazy and the rookie Evan Turner was knocking down shots off the bench. The Bulls led 49-46 at the half with Dwyane Wade leading all scorers with 14 points. The story wasn't much different in the second half. Despite a huge alley-opp throw-down from Caron Butler and Jason Kidd. Rose and Wade went on a tear to deliver the knock-out blow and won the game, 101-89. The crowd was roaring in approval as Dirk and the Mavs left the floor. Nowitzki had 21 points and 16 rebounds in the loss, while Jason Kidd put in 9 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists.

Derrick Rose was crowned the Jordan Player of the Game following his 21 points and 10 assists, while Dwyane Wade led all scorers with 26 points in his Bulls debut, shooting 12 for 24 in 37 minutes played. Josh Smith had a double double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and most importantly, 4 blocks as he won over the fans immediately with his energy and athletic ability on both ends of the floor. Evan Turner put in 13 points off the bench in his NBA Debut.

"Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade. Best back-court in the NBA?" the TNT analysis Kenny Smith was saying "If they could keep this up I think they are" replied Barkley. "They are at New York tomorrow, lets see how they are going to dominate the Knicks, who lost out on LeBron, Wade, Bosh, and every big named FA available. Isn't Donnie Walsh still in the mental hospital?"

The Next night, Rose, Wade and Turner combined for 59 points in the 106-75 rout of the Knicks in MSG. Rose recorded his first career triple double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The Bulls are on a roll with a 2-0 start to the season, but a return to Miami is next up for Dwyane Wade.

The inevitable matchup between Wade and his former team, as well as John Salmons and his former team is looming by, and however it will be, it won't be pretty.

Derrick Rose isn't even that good. He is, and likely always will be the most overrated player in the league. Anyway, still hate the team, but love the dynasty. Just noticed how great your pics look.
