Hello, and question about NBA Live patches

Postby Duckmeister on Sun Feb 14, 2010 11:52 am

Hello. I just found your site recently, after a spontaneous google search for "nba live". You see, I've been a huge fan of the NBA Live series since Live 2003, and I mean, I played those games all the time. ALL THE TIME. However, when Live 2006 came out, I basically said this: "hey, they aren't putting anything new into the game, why bother buying the new one every year". So, I basically forgot about the series, and moved on to other things. However, I recently started reading the very excellent "The Basketball Book" by Bill Simmons, and it reminded me of the endless hours I put into the NBA Live games. So, I googled it, found this site, and found a wealth of information I never knew existed. Heck, when I was playing, I didn't even know EA had patches for the game, let alone that there were tons of community-made mods. I didn't even know there was an online component to the game until 2005.

Let's just say this has brought back a flood of memories, as I have played 2003-2005 so much that I can remember almost every music track (even though I hate rap music), and every scene in every intro video. It's essentially ingrained into my mind forever.

So, after having found this site, and by extension, the PC project, I have a couple questions. I just dug up Live 06, as that's what the PC project is on, and was wondering the following:

Will Live 06 even work on Windows 7 64-bit?
Is Live 06 the best one for patching/modding? I know it has the PC Project, but should I bother to try and buy Live 07 or 08? Or dig up 05, 04, or 03?
How does the roster update work? Did you put in the missing Legends? Is there an option to have, say, a good, early Gary Payton instead of Seattle's washed-up Gary Payton, even though he's not technically a "Legend"? Same thing with Jason Kidd, can I have an early version of him too?
Can I still do the create-a-player thing with the patch?
Do I need to have the official update installed before I can install the PC Project?

I can't think of any other questions right now, but I will greatly appreciate it if someone could answer the ones I have above.

Thank you all for your time in reading this, and for this wonderful community that supports a game that has such sentimental/nostalgic value to me I just can't resist giving it another go!

Welcome to the Forum!

1. I'm guessing it will work, I'm still running XP though so I cannot speak from personal experience.

2. It's one of the best as we can make use of high resolution jersey patches and the like. Too many high-res patches cause crashes in NBA Live 07 and NBA Live 08. Beyond patching, NBA Live 07 and NBA Live 08 have quite a few issues that may well impede your enjoyment of the games. I'd still recommend NBA Live 2005 or NBA Live 06.

3. The roster update is a custom roster file that includes up to date rosters with the latest trades and missing players added as necessary. Once installed, you can load the custom rosters and use them in all game modes.

4. Yes, a variety of missing Legends are added by the rosters; certainly the prominent ones, at any rate. Gary Payton is amongst them and on the 90s All-Stars team in the rosters.

5. Yes, you can still create players with the roster patch. It's just a custom roster, you can make further changes to it as desired for your own personal use.

6. NBA Live 06 doesn't have an official update to install but for the games that do have an official update, it is certainly recommended that you install them along with any unofficial community made add-ons.

Hope this helps!

Alright, thank you for the answers, I'll be sure to try it all out come Monday!

Also, I see that the link in your 06 dynasty thread for your sliders is dead. Any chance I could get a link to your latest sliders for 06, if they are available?

Awesome, those sliders work great. Thanks again.

Right now, I'm trying to install the PC Project, but I don't know which path to install it to. Program Files (x86)/EA Sports/NBA Live 06 should be the correct path, right?

That should be right so long as you've installed the game to the default folder. The installation should detect that automatically but it has been known not to work for some users.

It all works perfectly now, thank you very much. I cannot express how awesome it is to see all of the work that's been put into this.

Now, time to make a Celtics dynasty!

You're welcome, glad I could help out. Remember to keep checking out the NBA Live 06 and NBA Live PC Project sections for the latest updates. If you feel inclined to make a Dynasty story thread, check out the Dynasty & Franchise Stories section and in particular the Hall of Fame for some inspiration and examples of successful formats. :)
