He's appeared in 29 of the Lakers' 46 games, so he's played 63% of their season to date. If we were to exclude players based on the number of games they've played, then I think anything over 50% (and certainly anything over 60%) is a fair minimum to be eligible.

Not to mention how much better the team record is with him when compared to without him. I think Gasol's inclusion is deserved. (Y)

if not for the Lakers record, Gasol doesn't make it as a reserve. yeh he's awesome but for the amount of games he's played, does that even qualify him to be a "league leader" lol. Andrew- can't agree with you. you can't be an "all star" if you're playing less then a 3/4 of your teams games (not factoring in fan voting of course). i would have selected Kaman over Pau Pau.

i'd take Josh Smith over Rose or Joe Johnson

tough call on the Lee vs Horford vs Bogut

I'd actually call it a Lee vs Bogut matchup. Josh Smith should've been in team, so 3 players from Hawks shouldn't make it. I like Horford & think he'll continue to improve, but I don't know about him being an All-Star this season.

Lee vs Bogut, as much as I like Bogut & his improvement, I'd give Lee the nod marginally. Lee has been more consistent than Bogut this season. If Bogut continues to improve consistency (no down games against 76ers etc) then he should be an All-Star next year.

Hopefully Garnett & Iverson get injured, then I'd put in Josh Smith & David Lee as replacements :P

I like Joe Johnson, but he's really no more than a Steve Smith clone (literally, go look, they're the exact same guy). It feels like he is getting on the All-Star team every year because he is the high scorer on the up-and-coming Hawks ya know?

Admittedly it doesn't, to qualify for the league leaders a player needs to have appeared in at least 85% of his team's games for per game averages with various other cutoffs for field goal percentage and the like.

Steve Smith's numbers weren't really as good as Joe Johnson's, he only really had 3 comparable seasons and in one of them he made the all-star game himself.

Joe Johnson put up huge numbers in his first (and arguably only deserved) all-star year, but both their raw and metric stats (both across their careers and in career seasons) are nearly identical. Johnson's bigger, but its a good comparison.

funny about this is that bosh's friends from the 03 class excluding darko milicic (lebron, wade, melo, also his friend d12 is starting C) are starters. he puts up career numbers and better numbers than the guy starting (who is also his idol/nemesis), he gets to be a reserve

One plays for one of the most famous franchises in sports history, the other plays for some irrelevant team in some backwater frozen wasteland of a third world nation nobody's ever heard of.

Good picks overall. I don't like Rondo as I've seen him getting dominated by Hawks in 4 game season sweep. I think he's benefitting much by being on a good team and similar for Pau Gasol about being selected an All Star. Feel free to prove me wrong though. :P

Okay. Rondo is the best PG in the East, and best defensive guard in the league.

Rondo: 11.8ppg 8.5apg 3.8 rpg 46% shooting

Dominated? Not so much. Blame Ray Allen and his 12.5ppg, 40% shooting before you blame Rondo.
