Mailman to miss two more weeks; Grant also out

Seems like Malone, Kobe and Shaq will be out a little longer. Needless to say, that isn't good for the Lakers. Also:

McD's second company not to renew deal

Innocent or guilty, the companies and products Kobe endorses are slowly cutting ties with him. It will be interesting to see whether any more companies pull out of endorsement deals. It will also be interesting to see what happens after the trial has concluded. If he's found innocent, will the endorsement offers return? If he's found guilty, will it be possible for his endorsement deals to be terminated?

I highly doubt that they want to resign Kobe later after the trial. Everyone is after LeBron now, so that needed to make some space for him.

Basketball endorsements, yes. But for products such as a Sprite, I doubt it.

If Kobe's found innocent and the trial is over quickly, then Kobe has a good shot at getting the endorsements back but he'll have to win and also torch LeBron James a couple of times.

isnt it better for the lakers to have injuries right now and maybe getr the 3rd seed in the playoffs and face sactown in the western finals HEALTHY i think they are hurt but they are also getting rested for there playoff run. remember they are bored right now during the season they want to give there bench some work so they are ready for the post season, remember not many proven players on the lakers bench. russell, fisher, grant and now medevenko is starting to play like the PF of the future for the lakers.

Brian Cook plays very well aswell. I never got to see him play in college, but I tought he was just a bigman in the post, but he showed that he also has the longe range jumper, and a nice little fall-away, his shot looks a little flat, but I think he wil work on it. I dont think Horace Grant needs to prove himself, hes just getting old. Hes terrible on the transition and misses most of his shots. I dont blame him, its just a aging process I guess. He should retire next year.

i got to see a lot of cook's games while he was at u of i...

don't mistaken cook as a post player. he's a sf in a 'big' man's body. he was a pretty soft player in his college days- he shyed away from contact and got a bulk of his scoring from what you're seeing now- from the perimeter.

as far as the injury thing:

At least the Lakers have won 4 out of their last 5! The bench is playing well...and Payton is doing a great job...plus Medvedenko has stepped up too

If the Lakers must lose players to injuries, now isn't such a bad time. They're not in danger of falling out of the top eight and it's better than losing players in the playoffs.

When healthy, the Lakers are capable of beating any of their Western foes four times out of seven. However, they are a sub .500 team on the road. I'm sure they'd prefer homecourt advantage in the playoffs, which is why losses now can prove to be costly when it comes time to seed teams for the playoffs.

as my philosophy teacher once told me: you can't walk on both sides of the fence at the same time without the fence going up your crack... so pick a side please

Allow me to rephrase.

It's better for the Lakers to be shorthanded now, as they are not in immediate threat of being eliminated from title contention. However, these losses could still prove to be costly when it comes time to seed teams for the playoffs.

Being shorthanded now might prove to disadvantage them later. However, the disadvantage of missing key players is greater than the disadvantage of playing on the road with all your key players healthy and able to contribute. That is the point I was trying to make but I admit my original post did walk both sides of the fence, as it were.
