Tue Jan 13, 2004 3:18 pm

Man what is going on in LA? Payton's the only able-bodied Hall of Famer left on the team.

oh oh...Lakers are in trouble...if Shaq and Mailman doesn't return quick they'll be dead

i suffered a shoulder injury to a similar play- it is very painful. once the muscle gets cold, it's like carrying a dead weight. i'm surprised he still played for most of the quarter. it's was courageous of him but imo it was borderline stupid: it's just a regular season game, against the lowly cavs no less, and the team already has enough injuries to do deal with. why risk further aggravating the injury?

if you didn't know yet: nfl street is coming out soon, new hanes underwear is tagless and is soft, monday morning quarterback is priceless, the mask of zorro will be on and you can catch the encore presentation the following day, and along came polly starts friday.

That "roller coaster ride" aspect of the NBA season that Phil Jackson always talks about...I believe the Lakers are currently at the lowest point.

I hope everything will turn out ok for the Lakers and Kobe and that this injury will not force him to miss anymore games. They are in trouble already, and this would kill the Lakers if their 3th star is forced to sit out games. Kinda amazed me as he was trying to get back in the game. I admire his love for the game, but as C4MIP said, this is just a season game, nothing important so the best thing he should do is sit on the bench the whole game

I remember that AI had the same injury in his rookie season and he missed 3 games. It's devastating to see LA falling down with injuries.

man things look more worse and worse everytime i goto nba.com these days.
first Malone, then Shaq and now Kobe.
damn!
if kobe misses games, the projected lineup is probably payton, fisher, george, medvedenko, grant, or rush in place of fisher.
  :(

that is shocking lol.

a bit off topic, but Brian Cook has put together some nice games as of late, he could be one of those sleeper picks :D.

Well thankfully, I'm not counting on Payton to get injured. He never does...

The Lakers will be fine. Shaq and Malone will be back in no time and they'll be back to their full strength by no time. It's just a few games...

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Kobe Bryant is expected to miss at least five games and could be sidelined for several weeks with a sprained right shoulder.

The Los Angeles Lakers' star was injured when he was fouled by Kedrick Brown late in the first quarter of a 89-79 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night.

Lakers coach Phil Jackson said Tuesday that Bryant won't need surgery but probably will go on the injured list. Bryant had an MRI exam Tuesday morning, and the results were not as bad as feared.

"In basic terms, it's a sprained shoulder," Jackson said. "I don't think there's any long-term effects to something like this."

Bryant's injury was the latest blow to the Lakers' star-studded lineup. Shaquille O'Neal and Karl Malone also are out with injuries -- Malone for the past nine games with a sprained knee ligament and O'Neal the last five games with a strained right calf.

O'Neal could return Wednesday night against Denver, although he didn't practice Tuesday. It's not clear when Malone will be back.

Well.....this does suck indeed. I heard some rumours about signing Anthony Mason for a 10 day contract, but thats probably not true. Shaq could be back against Denver, I really hope he can make it, cause if he wont....they will be in trouble, even with GP as their main guy

I wouldn't rule out Payton getting hurt because prior to this season, the same could be said of Karl Malone but look at what happened now.

KB Out at least five games

The bottom line on ESPN said that Malone will be out at least another 2-3 weeks...Lakers are gonna have a tough couple weeks, what's their schedule like?

wow, remember when people said LA wouldn't win the Championship and all sorts of silly predictions were made about the hall of famers going down with injury? Perhaps this forum has magical powers. La would be hoping to get back on track and be in top form after the all-star break. Until then it's probably going to be ugly for the fans.

we are seeing the next year's lakers.Without Malone,Kobe,Payton.Only Shaq(a year older).

Malone & GP will be Lakers next year, cause their contracts havnt expired yet by then. The only way for them not beeing Lakers = being traded or having career ending injuries (which is not the case right now)
