hehe Sun's just bagged there season and looking to get some big name players and a winning team next year seeing its almost impossible to get out of the hole they are in.
It would be funny to see the Magics do the same thing and get rid of some of there players (probably not T-mac since there is few of his value...well maybe kobe for t-mac lol)

this also makes it easier for the Knicks to know who to protect when the NBA Draft for the Bobcats come around...thomas, mutombo, houston, marbury, williams, sweetney, harrington, trybanski
(harrington and trybanski since they will be on there last year;they might not protect houston because of that contract!)

And so the trading continues. I can't believe how many deals, major and minor, have taken place so far this year.

I can't really say anything that hasn't already been said already. The Knicks gave up a player battling injuries, rid themselves of the glut at point guard and bring in a All-Star point guard and a capable veteran reserve. Giving up the two first round picks is a gamble, but as far as the current talent involved in the trade, New York made a very nice move.

Phoenix probably shouldn't have given up Marbury, but Eisley and Ward are both decent point guards that are fine in the short term. More importantly, the Suns received cap relief and some extra chances to snap up some young talent in the draft. It's a move that is not without risk, but isn't entirely foolish.

If I was Isiah Thomas, I too would have made this deal. Mind you, I probably wouldn't have been too keen on it if I was in Jerry Colangelo's shoes.

lol, im still in shock. Isiah is an absolute genius. Look at what he gave up exactly and you'll see how pheonix was swindled:
Antion Mcdyess, the best player right now for pheonix in the deal, but if the suns made the deal just to get him.. man, they couldnt have. Mcdyess was a gun in 2000 for denver, but alot of his scoring was becuase of his explosive athletic ability. Thats in question now, and while Kurt Thomas isnt as good as Dice when antonio is in his prime, he's better than mcdyess over the last 2 seasons.
Ward/Eisely. Ward will probably be cut, but the good thing for new york is howard esiley is gone. His contract was ridiculous, and its gone :proud:

. Dont get me wrong, howard is a good role player, he had some great years in utah. But there was a major logjam at pg especially after moochie norris arrived, and Isiah has cleared that up.
Lampe and Vujanic. I dont know much about these players, but the good thing is sweetney isnt touched. I would rather see these two go and mike sweetney stay, which is what happened.
2 draft picks: At first this looks terrible, but then you look at the knicks line up as Amphatoast listed, and it spells playoffs. That means the draft picks wont be that high anyway. It would be better if NY kept them, but they had to give somthing up.

Marbury can create his own shot, and look at what KVH and Allan houston have done scoring wise so far.. It hasnt been bad, but with stephon breaking down defenses, he will not only take alot of pressure of the knicks shooters, he will create shots for these guys. Plus Penny is versatile, so if Houston or KVH gets injured, the knicks have a player with superstar qualities in penny to bring off the bench.

Although I think it's pretty one-sided (not considering the space unloaded from PHX's cap, though) on NY's side. I mean if an Amare, or even Marion wasn't on the Suns lineup maybe it would have made more sense... *shrug*

Now to move Van Horn-flakes for a tough defensive minded 3, Get rid of Allan Houston and his contract for a defensively capable/scoring shooting guard, and acquire a young real centre (Is Sweetney a 4 or 5?)

Hehe nah just kidding, the Knicks are looking better, though still thin up front.

Marbury would be reunited with Keith Van Horn, his teammate in New Jersey. Last summer, Marbury said the Nets didn't win when he was there because he was surrounded with untalented players, lumping Van Horn in with Gheorghe Muresan and Jim McIlvaine.

Hasn't Isiah been trying to ship for Sheed? i read on realgm that he's offering van horn and some others for sheed.

They could always use that cap space to sign a couple of other good free agents. Trading is also easier when you're under the cap. But you bring up a good point - clearing cap space for a run at a major free agent is risky, and has proven unsuccessful for a few disappointed teams in recent years.

I wonder what will happen to Don Chaney now? Will he get a decent chance to mould this team together, or will isiah bring in a new coach (or himself)? Alot of questions.. but new york has gotten alot better (y)

I cant believe that Suns gave Marbury and Penny up for practically nothing.
they get mcdyess yes, but will he ever be as good as he was, the draft picks may not be important especially if the knicks make playoffs.

All i gotta say about this trade is whooooop. If only our genious GM 'Rider' was here before houston got signed to that contract and spree was still on the team..the knicks would have been a serious east coast monster imo. He would have prolly kept my man spree where he belongs. Spree...houston...hardaway and starbury on one team - that would have been sweetness.

Hey i think we all know Don Chaney's coaching days are number in NY i think Ishiah will hire his real good friend Doc Rivers and you will see the Knicks in the playoffs Next Year.. No im not a fan from NEW YORK, i say this a a true NBA fan ... from seattle. in all reality I HATE every EAST Team in the league i just think its great NY will be back in the playoff hunt.

He deserves a chance. Rarely you will see a coach taking over a team & making the playoffs the same year, I wouldn't take the risk. Probably for next year you'll see someone else, but I would let him stay this year.

Regarding Lampe & Vujanic, Lampe is still injured and even when he was a great selection, the Knicks needed an update in the PG position... while the hopes of that upgrade were on Vujanic (he was expected to play this year for the Knicks), the hopes vanished when he decided to stay in Europe for a few more years, signing with some European team. Those are players we haven't seen playing in this league, so keeping them is just as bad as letting them go.

The knicks just got terrific, this is getting New Yorkers excited, people heading to the Garden once again. New Yorkers better get their tickets before a huge raise!!! (Y)

This could also be a trade that benefits the Suns... Lampe now a sun.. turns into Dirk-like.. then the 2 first round picks from the knicks turn into 2 very very good players.. Then with the salary.. they sign a big name all-star and while Knicks are playoff contenders
they still don't have a very good chance to get to the finals.. even if they do.. they'll never win a championship....

This is a good trade for both sides.. of course for NBA fans.. we love trades that bring talents together... but anywayz.. Suns know they won't win enough in the near future, so why not save money and get draft picks? .. they are probally thinking about a few years later where the NBA could be very different.

While the Knicks want to win now.. and they will.. but not enough..

At least Barbosa was looking good. I hope Marbury does really well, but they loose a lot, so he gets traded to a team I don't hate. Like back to the Suns for their draft picks so NY can pick up a young defensive center *coughOkafurcough* So then Steph, Amare, Steph, Shawn, Antonio and Steph can all be on the same team.

And while I'm dreaming I want a pony :lol:

Oh man I still cant believe it happened but I better give a big props to Zeke, now Scott what can you say about that?

It gaves us a great point guard that we dont have in a long time, and hopefully Penny will help us off the bench.

For the Suns, McDyess' contract expires the end of the year and Ward has been waived which is I think a bad idea. Eisley was hated by Knick fans but a fresh start is likely. They also got two young players in Lampe and Vujanic (if he comes around this time) who they can develop.

We gave up a lot but where talking about Stephon Marbury here.

We loss to Cleveland but hey, we still need some jelling with our new crop of players.
