And true, the game is one of the most addictive games, if not the most. I might make another character and maybe start writing a story 'bout it in the Video Games Stories section. Would any of you read it? xD

I probably just took it slower than you did. As for the story idea, that sounds pretty good. I'd give it a look. :)

They actually do level up with you, it's probably more noticeable after Level 10 though. If nothing else, you get more of the tougher enemies lurking in the Wastes.

I don't know about the other versions, but on PC they really shouldn't, it was one of the major things advertised about this game. It certainly is a big difference compared to Oblivion where you'd have a hard time slaying a goddamn bear even at high levels...
However, I noticed that all the enemies from the expansion packs were much tougher, especially the swamp folks from Point Lookout, so I guess the leveling system works different for those packs.

I didn't know they leveled up with you, but the enemies you face in the story don't, since I tried to tackle the Three Dog mission with a Level 3 guy and got nowhere, but then leveled up to 5 and beat it. My guy's at level 9 and I just got to the part where Liam Neeson dies. That virtual reality quest was short but really cool.

Another question: There were several side-quests available in and around Megaton at the beginning of the game. I haven't found any more since then. Am I not looking hard enough or is that it?

Yeah, I found the android and Declaration of Independence ones. I'm at level 13 now and just got captured by the enclave. I don't know what I'm supposed to do though. They want me to go see the president, but then everyone in there starts shooting at me. Do I try to kill everybody and escape or just keep looking for the office?

Also, StupidBoy's idea is actually really good. I might go through it again as an antihero and do that if he doesn't. (Fuck my association)

Try killing everybody and looking for the office. If you can stay alive long enough, you will be fine. You can also just run as fast as you can, there are hiding spots.

Lean, Yeah, I'm on the last mission. Doing a bunch of side-quests before that, even though I have Broken Steel. I just did the mission where you save the vault. I bashed the Overseer's head in with my super sledge.

Also, do you guys hire allies? I have Fawkes and he has made the quests extremely easy, and stunted my character's development. Should I fire him, or will I need him later?

Having companions certainly makes things easier in some areas. I believe that you can always try to hire them back once you've fired them anyway. But no, you don't really NEED them.
If you have the PC version, there is a mod out there that allows you to repair destroyed robots and make them your companions. Depending on the type of robot, they're not as strong as human allies, so it could be a good compromise.

Got trapped in my room by Fawkes. Shouldn't have bought the stupid vault theme. I loaded my last save (an hour before... sigh) and fired his ass. I found out that Broken Steel made him invincible. Goodbye, Fawkes.

Sorry, I worded that badly. The individual enemies don't level up with you, as in a mole rat is a laughable enemy to most anyone above Level 3 or 4 (at most), but the types of enemies you most frequently encounter levels up with you. The higher your Level, the more likely you are to encounter a Yao Guai or Deathclaw, for example. But their attacks and defenses are the same no matter what level you're at. What I should've said is that as you level up, the number of more difficult enemies being spawned increases.

That's my only companion that I didn't fire or who didn't get killed in combat. I was on one of those suspended highway bridges in the northwestern part of the map, when all of sudden I got a message that he had been killed. He just fell to his death for no particular reason...

Official Mothership Zeta trailer!!
phpBB [video]

Looks awesome, can't wait for Monday.

EDIT: Also check this interview about MZ.
Will you be able to return to the space ship once you beat the main quest?

Yes, you can use the ship as a home-base of sorts. It sure has a great view!

Fawkes' death is a blessing in disguise. A (practically) invincible super mutant with a gatling gun ruins the game. Just completed the main quest and advanced to Broken Steel. I would feel pretty jipped if that was it. While I don't regret my purchase, Broken Steel really should have just been part of the game. The low level cap and the game ending (even if you let Lyons die) were unforgivable decisions. Not to mention the short main quest...

But now I'm on to Broken Steel, 35 hours in, and still obsessed with the game. Can someone tell me what (if any) new areas Broken Steel adds? Also, did you know that if you kill Moriarty (a decision I regretted, due to his similarities to the guy in my avatar), after about a month his saloon will become Gob's Saloon?

I think that's a fair call, in a way Broken Steel rectified a complaint with the game as much as it was an expansion pack. As far as the length of the main quest, I'm in two minds about that. It could've been longer (even without Broken Steel) but it still takes a while to play through and the amount of side quests kind of makes up for it. The Level cap is low, but on my first play through I finished the game at Level 13.

Mothership Zeta looks pretty cool. Since I don't own the game, I think I'll buy the GotY edition when it comes out, rather than dish out the $40 for the expansion packs, and opt to keep the game.

Finally got the whole chapter 1 finished.
Btw, as I was playing the birthday scene, when I walked out of the room, instead of going down the stair, I followed the Overseer up the stairs. He mention to Officer Kendall he hates me. I have to remember to kill him.

Interesting, I've never bothered following him before. Makes me regret sparing his life...perhaps next play through, I won't.

It was something else, wasn't it? The interpretation of the various elements on The Vault article makes a lot of sense, too.

Beat Broken Steel, and aside of the Nuka-Cola challenge I am out of quests to do. While Broken Steel was a necessary download, I hated the quests added. The areas added were generic Enclave strongholds. The shooter element of the game was always my least favorite, as I felt it was merely serviceable (I enjoy exploring and talking to people), and kill was all you did here.

I thought the first quest was uninspired, but decent, the second decent, but again, too much shooting. The final one started out really cool, but once I got to the main Enclave fort, it started to really suck. The very last part was painful. Even with the "I Win" Tesla Cannon and 150 Stimpaks, it was extremely frustrating. For two hours, I was on the very last objective, and I had no idea where to go because the two markers steered me in the wrong direction. Horrendous game design on the second half of the last quest. No fun.

I might fight people to sell the treasures I obtained to (I think I got about 10,000 caps of stuff out of that last mission), and maybe try to get a couple more achievements and level up some more. I'm only a level 23, and with the Nuka-Cola Challenge the only remaining quest, I don't know how I could get to level 30 without DLC. It was a good run though. 50 hours of gaming in one week.

Have you explored the entire wasteland? If not there are many unfinished quests for you. I don't see how you can be finished with all the side quests and still not be at level 30.

I finished all the official ones at least - the ones you get achievements for, except for the Nuka-Cola Challenge (Just need 26 more quantums!). I know there are plenty of small, unmarked ones, but those don't count as quests. Quests I've completed:

Baby Steps
Growing Up Fast
Future Imperfect
Escape!
Following in His Footsteps
Galaxy News Radio
Scientific Pursuits
Tranquility Lane
The Waters of Life
Picking up the Trail
Finding the Garden of Eden
The American Dream
Take it Back!
Death From Above
Shock Value
Who Dares Wins
Big Trouble In Big Town
Superhuman Gambit
Wasteland Survival Guide
Those!
Head Of State
Replicated Man
Blood Ties
Oasis
Power of the Atom
Tenpenny Tower
Strictly Business
You Gotta Shoot Em In The Head
Stealing Independance
Trouble On The Homefront
Agatha's song
Reilly's Rangers
Protecting the Waterway
The Amazing Aqua Cura
Holy Water

I haven't discovered all the locations (maybe half?), and I know I would get to level 30 by killing everything I encounter, but looking for various power stations and Bed and Breakfasts get old after a while. Getting the DLC would get me there too, but I'm waiting for the GotY edition.

When that GotY edition is going to be released? I finished Fallout 3 without add-ons recently, and I'm probably going to wait till that.

And whoever said that this game is addictice, I completely agree.

October 13th. A couple months away, but it'll be here before you know it. I hope New Vegas is released in spring 2010 and not fall, but thats a pretty big longshot. Its at the top of my list for most awaited games now though.

It sucks that Oblivion's leveling system is broken. Could have been as great as Fallout 3 if not for the worst design decision in recent gaming history.
