Jay Williams and Bulls reach Buyout [soon]

Postby paul_pierce_the_truth on Sun Dec 21, 2003 3:19 am

Bulls number 2 pick overall from the 2002 Draft Jay Williams to be bought out and released,
then wants to serve as community leader.

Most unfortunate for everyone involved, and y'all thought Mike Dunleavy was a bust.

All this must be tough on him, poor guy, number 2 overall, would've made a fine point guard.

Anyways, I really hope for his sake, that he can work himself back into NBA shape and rejoin the NBA...tis a shame...a damn shame I tell ya!! :(

Very unfortunate for the Bulls, who could have selected Amare Stoudemire or Caron Butler. It's also quite unfortunate for Jay Williams; hopefully he can at least recover enough to not be inhibited in day to day life. If his condition will allow him to play again, even better. I'm sure he could be helpful to the Bulls playing behind Crawford or Hinrich, and it would be great for him personally if he could make it back to the NBA after such a terrible accident.

Yeah, but they weren't counting on any of this stuff to happen to him. They probably thought that he was the future of their team, but not anymore.

pretty sad situation, but he did go against the rules and is now paying the price pretty heavily. Maybe some team who needs a point guard for the future will pick him up and he might make the bulls look bad like the bulls have in the past few years ( ex- trading brand, artest, rose, marshall, miller)

He's given first priority to the bulls, if he ever gets back into shape. Another team signing won't happen, the bulls will have the first choice.

That's true - it's easy to sit here today and opine that the Bulls should have selected someone else. No one was to know at the time of the 2002 Draft.

Amare could play next to Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler, Corie Blount, Marcus Fizer, Lonny Baxter, and Donyell Marshall...and I don't know if the Bulls would've wanted Caron Butler considering he'll never be more than Batgirl to someone elses Batman and Robin...if he's lucky.

The Bulls are better off without Williams...Crawford is a much better basketball player, and Hinrich has filled the role just fine. I read Williams is likely to turn up with the Bobcats if he can play again. Severe injuries to the leg area for point guards is a bigger problem than most other players, especially ones that rely on their quickness to be worth anything.

Williams is lucky the Bulls are going to pay him for being an idiot considering they don't need him. He should take the money and run, people still think he'll be more than a backup.

tragic accident but the sooner this guy is off the payroll/roster the better. the bulls could use his salary/roster spot for another shooter

Quite happy to hear this. I think that Kirk and Crawford are about ready to establish themselves as one of the league's better up and coming backcourts. Unfortunately, Jay doesnt fit into the equation any more. Hopefully, they can get themselves a nice swing man with the cap space, and not another Ron Mercer.

I'd like to see Jay with the Cats. If he can get back to health, he might be the number one option in Charlotte, like Damon Stoudamire was in the Raptors' inaugural season. Fingers crossed for the former Duke Blue Devil.

yes, from the team's standpoint, it would be a good idea to get the guy off the roster and payroll. he makes a fair amount of money over the next few years and he can't even play. it works both for the short term and long term.

i'm not exactly who's available in the nbdl exile, but at least the team would have the roster flexibility to add someone w/o dropping another player. and also if would be nice to get his salary off the books, as the team has to resign its young guns within the next few years. otherwise they may be heading into lux tax territory

as mentioned by someone else, this guy is very lucky just to have the bulls give him paychecks. the motorcycle thing clearly violated his contract and is grounds for having his contract terminated.

Seattle is looking to trade, they said Murray but Richie Frahm could be on the block too, wow that would be a great aquisition, the guy can flat out shoot, he came into the league shooting 50% from behind the arc.
