But why would they want to risk messing up the current rotation which already is a serious championship contending team. Fans would expect them to make an adjustment if needed but not a major changes in players.

As Ainge already said, I don't expect to see changes in their core anyways.

It depends if they have faith in their current core to be able to make a few more championship runs. Or perhaps they'd like to be in a position to compete for championships but at the same time transition into a new era without completely rebuilding, given that their Big Three are approaching their mid 30s.

Im so confused with this threads responses... who is being sarcastic and who isn't?

This is just one of the easiest trades to reject for detroit ever.

I was surprised to see his name in there too, though in Stuckey they would've still had an up-and-coming point guard to work with.

Maybe his personality? Relatively unprofessional and perhaps even unsporting or just flat out a dirty player? :cheeky:

Exactly. Garnett's injury was the only thing that stopped them from defending their title this year. How quickly they forget how dominating the Celtics were in 2007-08.

I wouldn't touch a trade for Ray Allen with a stick. Big contract on an aging shooting guard. Adding Rondo was a nice touch, but Joe Dumars ain't falling for that.

I don't think Boston would care that much about whether he's dirty or not. Given the way they've defended him, they probably don't see it that way anyway. Personality issues have been brought up before but there are players in the league with much worse track records in that regard. It's not exactly a "Stephon Marbury" in New York situation with Rondo.

people calling rondo dirty just makes me  literally

He had a few dumb plays in the playoffs, that is it

every other game of his career he did nice things like picking up opponents when they fall...

Ultimately it might even come to a business decision -- a 50-win team sells more tickets than a rebuilding team. In this economy, it's definitely got to be in the Celtics' interest to stay strong and keep fan interest [and profits] high.

In all fairness, I'd agree. But even if you wanted to call him a dirty player, I doubt the Celtics would want to get rid of him because of that.

Defending your teammates is natural, certainly when the fight is still being fought. It still could backfire afterwards.
I admit I'm speculating, but that is because I think it's just as weird as the next guy if you only consider basketball talent.

Forgive me for not being a Celtics fan and having watched every other game of his career but only the playoffs.

I disagree that those plays were dumb, I would call it dirty play.
I'd give him the benefit of the doubt if it happened once but that wasn't the case.

It probably happens more often in playoff series so Andrew may be right that it's not the reason to trade him.

But what is then? I think most people agree he is among the most talented point guards in the NBA and he 's not expensive so it makes you wonder.

It's probably more about seeing if there's any takers for Ray Allen and throwing Rondo in there to try and bring another team to the table. Once the talks begin, there's no guarantee Rondo would remain on the table.

Or the Celtics think Starbury is the PG so Rondo a goner. :cheeky:

Anyways, the Celtics shoudldn't really gamble I think. The team was so good last season too. It was just unfortunate that KG went down in the playoffs. The current Celtics definitely deserve one more shot.

They really deserve a second chance. Starbury is already a free agent, right?

Marbury is indeed a free agent, though I remember reading that there was talk of him returning to the Celtics next year.

Probably a Garnett endorsement. I hope KG puts Starbury's head back into place.

Wow. Will they bring back the KG-Starbury combo if they resign him?

I think that was shadow's way of pointing out the obvious; if they re-sign Marbury then the KG/Starbury reunion will certainly continue. Unless for some bizarre reason they decide to shop KG while hanging their future hopes on Marbury, but that seems unlikely.

Yes, I know it really seems unlikely to happen. But what am I saying is that their connection can develop again. It's like the good old Minnesota days on my point.

I don't think Marbury would get enough court time to truly recapture that era, though if he does re-sign I'm sure there'll be times when he's on the floor with KG and a lob or a fancy pass will be thrown and it will be somewhat of a flashback to those days.

I'm sure it will happen. Has there been any rumors that Starbury will re-sign with the Celtics?

Supposedly both sides were open the possibility based on a snippet I read a couple of months back but if someone can offer Marbury a bigger role and more money then he's got to look out for his best interests too (and giving him the lion's share of the minutes at point guard and a fat contract certainly isn't in Boston's best interests).
