Thinking of switching to 2k9 for PC

Sun Jan 04, 2009 2:19 pm

I am very disappointed with the Live series it has been very bad lately. I am thinking of switching to 2k9 and was wondering if anyone thinks this is good or bad. I will be getting the PC version.

1. Do you think 2k9 for PC has more accurate rosters (like lesser players missing, better and accurate ratings) than Live 09 default
2. Is 2k9 PC more realistic and has more smoother moves than Live 09?
3. Do you think 2k9 for PC is better than Live?

Just answer these questions for me please... and do not tell me why not try the game first because if I get answers here this will affect my choice
(And this is a LIFE-CHANGING choice)

1. No clue, never played Live 09. You can easily just download a roster for 2k9 though which has all the missing players created added to it.
2. I imagine so.
3. Yes.

Download the demo from steam to make sure it runs good on your system. If it does, then buy it. Remember, it is only 20 bucks (U.S.) and the more they sell for the pc the more likely we will get a basketball game next year as well. My only gripes with the game are control issues, which can be fixed and no online play.

I recently switched to 2k9 after owning NBA Live 95, 99, 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007 (always skipped a year after 99) -- and absolutely LOVE 2k9. There are very few things that Live does better, one of which is the menu system, but I got used to it after a while.

I have to say I loved Live 2005 and it will always be my favorite sports game of all time, but 2k9 has the following advantages:
1. More fluid movements
2. More natural flow from one movement to another
3. More balanced gameplay without seriously annoying bugs that destroy it
4. More intelligent AI
5. Less cheating by the computer
6. Less micromanaging necessary in franchise mode
7. Post-up moves are pretty decent and effective once you learn how to use them
8. No over-abundance of blocks/steals/whatever with default sliders
9. Overall gameplay feels like a real NBA game
10. I'm a Blazers fan, and the players almost all feel like their real-life counterparts as far as style of play. For example, Greg Oden isn't a dominating big man but does a few things on the defensive end really well like he does in real life
11. Teams will make counter-offers on your trades
12. You don't have to live and die by your PDA

A few disadvantages (but they're not bad):
1. Menu sucks, but you get used to it--the controls aren't consistent
2. The jump shots feel sluggish - Live's shooting mechanics were quicker and feel better
3. Calling plays, making substitutions, etc on the fly aren't quite as easy to do
4. Trades are a little too easy to accomplish

Highly recommend you make the switch. Best thing I ever did and I'm not looking back, and like I said I was a huge Live fan up until 2007.
