Good job still staying in the 8th spot, tough losses to Dallas and Memphis but nice win over the Lakers (you beat Kobe, Gasol, Bynum, Odom, Fisher, Ariza with the Seattle Stealth! :applaud: )

keep it up! (Y)

Dude, you are in some big problems now. Dallas had the same score as you, and Phoenix one win less. Hopefully the Thunder will wake up.

We're thisclose to slipping out... if we lose a few games, it will be tough to get back into the top 8...

Good to see my man, Wade's Heat doing so well, but it's hard to believe he's not in as a stat leaders in every category. :(

I hope things will get better between Sit and KD. Even if the stealth don't make the playoff, KD's one of a rare that should be kept to be built around. Young player with his potential don't usually get traded untill later in career. So I'm prediticting he's staying at least couple more years untill it reaches to a status where KD and Stealth realize they won't get any better with KD as a main piece.

Anyways, great story. I'm falling into it as if it's real. :applaud:

Postby Fresh8 on Thu Jan 22, 2009 9:20 pm

Monthly Recap: January
Part Three: Race To The MVP

Monthly Recaps are divided into several parts in order to give readers a quick and organized overview. Part Three of the Monthly Recap is the ‘Race To The MVP’. Part Four will feature Rumors and trade news from around the league.

1. Chris Paul, PG, New Orleans | Team Record: 42-16

Key Stats: 22.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 9.9 apg, 2.5 spg, .474 FG%, .371 3PT%, .843 FT%
Last Months Rank: 1

He’s still our favorite to win the MVP. LeBron James is widely regarded as the best player in World right now but over the past few weeks, more and more ‘Chris Paul is the number 1 basketball player on Earth’ articles have appeared in the press. Statistically, I am not sure about that but have you guys seen Paul play? Paul is so fast and talented that it’s hard not to admit that he does have a case against LeBron for bragging rights.

2. LeBron James, SF, Cleveland Cavaliers | Team Record: 38-20

Key Stats: 29.3 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 7.8 apg, 1.9 spg, .510 FG%, .447 3PT%
Last Months Rank: 3

If LeBron doesn’t appear at 1, then he surely has number 2 on lock. The only thing that we can possilbe have against him is his team’s record (Granted; that is a weak weak argument...). The Cavs are second in the East and a few games behind the league leading Hornets and Conference leading Heat.

3. Kobe Bryant, SG, Los Angeles Lakers | Team Record: 38-22

Key Stats: 28.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 4.9 apg, 2.2 spg, .509 FG%, .410 3PT%
Last Months Rank: 2

With Pau Gasol injured and a host of injuries affecting major contributors Lamar Odom and Trevor Ariza, Kobe has had to pick up the slack. His scoring has gone on the rise and we always see glimpses of last season’s Kobe. However, we do like this season’s Kobe better. The one who doesn’t try to be a one man team and gets his teammates involved as much as possible.

4. Manu Ginobili, SG, San Antonio Spurs | Team Record: 38-20

Key Stats: 27.2 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 4.6 apg, 2.1 spg, .508 FG%, .490 3PT%
Last Months Rank: 4

Ginobili continues with his fabulous form and hasn’t skipped a beat. The Spurs look like true contenders in the West and after the Lakers; seem like the only real possible team to challenge for Western Conference supremacy (As you can see, we are still not sold on the Hornets). We also like how modest he is; in a recent interview he stated that Tim Duncan was the true MVP for San Antonio – aww shucks!

5. Dwyane Wade, SG, Miami Heat | Team Record: 39-19

Key Stats: 23.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 7.7 apg, 1.9 spg, .492 FG%
Last Months Rank: 6

With every game that passes, Miami is firming up as favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference to contest the NBA Finals. Actually, there are even whispers of being favorites to win it all. Wade has not had the numbers to warrant an MVP as Paul and James are having brilliant seasons. That’s ok with Wade as he correctly pointed out that only two MVPs in the past 10 years have won a title in the same season that they won the individual accolade.

6. Allen Iverson, SG, Detroit Pistons | Team Record: 37-21

Key Stats: 24.7 ppg, 8.0 apg, 2.1 spg, .498 FG%, .418 3PT%, .822 FT%
Last Months Rank: 5

Still on song to hit career highs in multiple categories at season’s end and having the Pistons in good position to make a tilt at the Eastern Conference Championship. Just take this into consideration: Iverson was the league’s leading scorer with 31 points a game in 00-01 and led a team with no clear-cut second scoring option to the NBA Finals. This season, Iverson is still averaging around 25 points but at superior shooting efficiency. He has a real team with All-Stars Rasheed Wallace and Rip Hamilton surrounding him. He is still a leader and it will be interesting to see if he has what it takes to lead the Pistons to the Finals. Can he go one better than he did in Philly? We are certainly rooting for him to.

7. Gilbert Arenas, PG, Washington Wizards | Team Record: 36-23

Key Stats: 25.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 5.9 apg, 1.5 spg, .494 FG%, .450 3PT%
Last Months Rank: 8

Washington is looking like dangerous opponents for any first round matchup. Arenas has been shooting extremely well and his defense has been much improved this season. Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison are still considered brilliant but Arenas has proven time and time again that he is the team’s leader and best fourth quarter player.

8. Kevin Durant, SF, Seattle Stealth | Team Record: 29-30

Key Stats: 26.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.6 spg, 1.1 bpg, .514 FG%, .418 3PT%, .860 FT%
Last Months Rank: 7

It’s been quite a month for the second year pro out of Texas. Durant has never looked more comfortable; scoring at will against his defenders. Durant didn’t score less than 25 points in any of the games the past month and he had a handful of 30+ point games, including a career high 56 against the Portland Trailblazers in a come from behind win. The most impressing aspect of Durant’s game is his ability to take over in the fourth quarter; it seems that he is quickly learning the ropes to becoming a superstar.

9. Baron Davis, PG, Los Angeles Clippers | Team Record: 37-23

Key Stats: 21.3 ppg, 5.4 apg, 2.1 spg
Last Months Rank: 10

The Clippers are still coming fourth; so we apologize to Baron Davis for sounding like Davis-Haters the past few times we have written: ‘it will only be a matter of time before the Clippers are slipping out of the Top 8 and playoff contention.’ As a matter of fact, Baron, we are not haters of you, we just hate the Clippers. You have played consistently all season and helping your team and we respect that. Sorry.

10. Stephen Jackson, SF, Golden State Warriors | Team Record: 35-24

Key Stats: 22.2 ppg, 5.0 apg, 1.4 spg, .470 FG%, .432 3PT%
Last Months Rank: Unranked

Stephen Jackson is the heart and soul of the Warriors; even with Baron Davis in LA, the Warriors still hold a healthy record. Jackson, the team’s leading scorer, does it all on both ends of the floor for the Warriors and thoroughly deserves a mention on R2MVP. It was about time he broke into the Top 10 as the Warriors have been playing great recently.

CP3 should win MVP, as he deserves. Nice to see Miami top again, where they belong.

Can't wait for the draft. Finish the season with a strong run, perhaps secure a playoff berth. (Y)

Monthly Recap: February
Part Four: Around the League

Monthly Recaps are divided into several parts in order to give readers a quick and organized overview. Part Four of the Monthly Recap is the ‘Around the League’ recap, which features transactions and other League news. Part Five will feature the T-Mobile Rookie Rankings.

Transactions

A couple of trades were made but none of them warranted much attention. The ‘biggest’ deal would have been the one involving Andre Miller. The Indiana Pacers and Philadelphia 76ers are both fighting to hold onto a playoff spot come April. The Pacers got better with the addition of the steady Miller at the 1.

However, the 76ers’ side of the deal left everyone scratching their heads. Miller’s departure left Brand no one to throw him lobs and give him good passes and open looks. The first round draft pick is good for Philadelphia because the Draft is projected to be very strong but for a team looking to compete now - Philly are not going to find that kind of player in a rookie.

February Trades:

7 Feb – Nets F J Boone traded for Blazers PG S Rodriguez
7 Feb – Raptors F H Adams traded for Rockets G DJ Strawberry
8 Feb – Magic C/F A Foyle traded for Timberwolves C C Booth and 09 Second Round Pick
12 Feb – 76ers PG A Miller traded for Pacers C R Nesterovic and 09 First Round Pick
14 Feb – Kings PF M Moore traded for 76ers SF R Evans

Will be interesting to see who comes out on top out of you and Mark. He hasn't been on NLSC for a while though... joy of real life :)

As for Tyson, what did you say?

Dallas Edges Seattle Out Of Top Eight

Preview | Box Score | Recap

Russell Westbrook dunks, Jason Kidd is left to stare

2 March, 2009

SEATTLE (AP) – Kevin Durant was kicking himself after he failed to lead the Stealth to a win against Western Conference rivals, the Dallas Mavericks. Meanwhile, General Manager Will Sit of Seattle would have been kicking himself after the performance that Mavs SG Jerry Stackhouse had against his team.

Stackhouse was the target of trade rumors that had him moving to Seattle in exchange for Stealth PG Earl Watson. Trade talks were heated but Dallas pulled out after Seattle was reportedly ‘asking for too much’. Stackhouse showed Seattle fans what they could have got from the starting SG position as he posed an impressive 22 points on 10 for 18 shooting from the field.

“Stackhouse would have been a great addition to our team. We have young guys like Adam (Morrison) and Jeff (Green) but both of them play more of the small forward position than at shooting guard,” Sit answered to sideline reporter Cheryl Miller during 2K Sports’ telecast of the game, “Kevin (Durant) plays better at small forward too and we didn’t have someone who could start and be effective at shooting guard on both ends of the floor; that’s why I wanted someone like Stack.”

Jason Terry led the Dallas Mavericks with 24 points and 5 assists. Jason Kidd added 18 while Dirk Nowitzki had a quiet night with 15 points.

The Stealth were led by Durant’s efficient 32 points and Russell Westbrook’s double double of 18 points and a career-high tying 11 assists. Westbrook seemed very composed and focused as he harassed the Mavericks backcourt with his quick hands. He dazzled the crowd with a handful of dunks; two of them resulting from steals of his own. “Russell played really well tonight,” Coach Gary Payton stated, “I told you all at the start of the season that he was going to turn out good.”

An 18-2 run beginning near the end of the first period and extending midway through the second quarter helped Dallas forge their first lead of the game. It didn’t last long though as Durant scored back to back buckets and a triple at the buzzer to end the third period. Durant’s little scoring feat Seattle trailing by just two points at the start of the final quarter with the score at 72-74.

The final quarter was close but Dallas kept their noses in front the whole time. The team’s experience helped them to held off their younger opponents despite the raucous home crowd who tried to cheer their team to victory. “It was a regular season game with that playoff atmosphere,” Nowitzki described the game, “Both teams had a lot at stake. Whoever won would be eighth and at this time of the season, we want to be in the top eight.”

A Brad Miller layup helped the Stealth close the game’s gap to three points with the scoreboard reading 88-85. Stackhouse responded to that with a trey with 1:23 left in the game. Stackhouse then scored 20 seconds later on a contested layup and pushing Dallas ahead 93-87. Durant was fouled hard on the way to the hoop, resulting in two free throws; both made. Josh Howard then punished the Stealth for leaving him open with a three pointer of his won with 54.6 seconds left. Seattle couldn’t find a way to score with Westbrook and Chris Wilcox both missing shots and Brendon Bass scored a layup with 23 ticks left on the clock.

Adam Morrison made a consolation three as the buzzer sounded to make the score look a little bit more respectable but the home crowd was silent as the Stealth let go of a chance to stay in the much coveted eighth position on the Western Conference standings.

Notes: Westbrook’s 6 steals were also a career high… The loss for Seattle drops the Stealth to ninth place in the West while Dallas moves up into Seattle’s old spot of eighth… Seattle’s losing streak reached three and this loss has been the sixth in eight games…Morrison, who has been playing with a sore right ankle, scored 13 points…

Tough loss against my Mavs. Seems like we are just at the same stage of our associations. Played the Thunder (twice) these days and lost both. Westbrook and Durant are beasts. Keep it up fella.
