Mods folder can't overwrite Sync folder (!)

Postby seanbarkley on Sat Sep 07, 2024 3:43 am

Hi people,

I've been doing some changes in the file shoe_global.iff but those changes doesn't reflect in the game. Has somebody have the same experience with other files?

I'm sure I'm doing everything ok because I've been doing the same since 2K21 and everything looks exactly the same, that's why I tend to think that the game doen't import the modded file don't know why...

I checked sync list and there is a shoe_global file in it

I think it's because the files in sync are read first

THANK YOU man, mistery solved! With Looyh tool didn’t have to deal with that damned file all these years… I guess I’ll have to wait for him…

I thought they no longer updated stuff through Sync file the last couple of years tho… could you please tell me where is the file located?

Tbh I've never heard of your shoe mods but I made 300+ shoes last year and yes it seems the global is not loaded. Some shoes use a pre edited shoe iff and some don't. No idea how or why it works but I'm 3/4 of the way swapping the default shoe to the air jordan 1s.

I'm very interested to hear what mods you did before as I had no help and had to work a lot out myself

Not sure if this is new or even helpful information (didn't mess with the last couple 2k iterations much)...lol...but I've seen a few shoe mods up on a couple of the Chinese sites and they follow this structure for placing the .iffs in the mods folder:

\mods\roster_textures\shoes

Working now, so I haven't had a chance to see if that works or not

Yes, however that is not related to the global stuff. I have just done a set that replaces the generic 2k shoe with the Air Jordan 1s.

How do you access the sync list?

I can open the G:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\#####\2878980\local\pls\sync folder and can see files in there that I can open with winrar but they contain .tld files which I can't open

Found the shoe_global:

F0CE00DC-E89B-C82D-70C9-00B44C379A49

However I made a change and it doesn't seem to work

I just tried to replace the shoe_0000_ gameday and now my players have no shoes, so that's a start?

I have found the sync list
The files are listed in the manifest bin files in the folder and tell you which sync file
eg
shoe_global.iff F0CE00DC-E89B-C82D-70C9-00B44C379A49 1061383

There is also the Puma MB4 in there but the files are .tld but the iff is the same as previous ones that had .dds, no idea how to open them as I said before

Exactly, 2K mods folder don't overwrite updated files from Sync folder, so tecnically we can't edit nothing from there: shoe models folder, updated faces, uniforms, courts...

My last hope was Looyh's Hook, because his Mods folder overwrites Sync, but there is no certainty if Hook will be released or not. So basically, for now WE ARE F*CKED!

have you tried to edit the file, change the name of the files with an hexeditor, then set it in readonly ?
it was the way before looyh's tools.

Edit which file, the sync one? I don’t remember how that can be done, but it’s worth a try!

on previous 2K, you had to hexedit the sync.bin file (make a backup before), search for the file inside and change its name to random. So the game didnt read the file in sync.bin and load the modded files.

Ok, now I remember, the thing is that Sync is a folder, no longer a file... I'll try some changes here and there and see if something works.

EDIT: I tried deleting the file where shoe_global.iff is located in Sync (F0CE00DC-E89B-C82D-70C9-00B44C379A49) but the one I edited still doesn't work... :(

EDIT 2: One weird thing I've found is that shoe layers of shoe files (shoe_ed_xxxx.iff) from inside the game have .dds format, while the ones inside Sync have .tld format, which I don't have a clue about what it is.

Did I not say all of this in my post earlier?
The sync files take precedence and we can mod and the changes did kind of work but not how I wanted. I posted a pic from an edited sync shoe global and not sure why you seem to be ignoring that?

Sorry man, I missed a couple of your posts and couldn't follow your progress. As you say it seems that editing the shoe_global inside Sync doesn't work either. In fact I just removed the whole file and nothing happened, so it seems some other file may be ruling over that file...

bikerjimuk wrote:I just tried to replace the shoe_0000_ gameday and now my players have no shoes, so that's a start?

From which shoe_global file did you get that effect? the one inside Sync file?

If you have Telegram or something like that we can talk more nimble...

I don't and yes that was editing the sync folder one.
Interesting to see that they have modelled socks, instead of the invisible foot of old!

I've tried switching layer colors in some shoe_default models, changing shoe and other stuff and no changes are reflected in the game...

What change did you do to make the shoe disappear?

I have deleted all but the default and gameday 0000 shoes and replaced those with the 5000 Air Jordan info.
Made no difference, but I have replaced all the shoe_0 files to get the Jordans in game but the in game edit shoes only colour a couple of areas so I changed the file id in the tamest to 8813 which is the air jordan 1 and that did the trick.

sorry tamest should read customshoedata.
I assume you know the old layout and the new one is similar but without the filename inside?

It would be good if mrstar could share his findings too, he got more stuff working in 2k24, like making the missing shoes work and I think he added some old ones as well?

Dude sadly I guess I've figured out how this works. shoe_global.iff files are no longer used; in fact I don't know why are they still there... All the shoes we see are painted fixed color shoes stored in roster_textures/shoes/shoe_xxxx_xxxxxxxx_textures.iff. I guess it's time to say goodbye to the old method.

BTW, I tried to edit any .dds layer but I can't to find the correct export setup for the layer to show: bc1, bc3, mipmaps, no mipmaps...

I also said this before. I have released a replacement set for the default shoe. However the global or something is being used as not all shoes have pre coloured files (they are the uid ones) for eg the Mavs and Nets don't. They are being coloured but it doesn't seem to use the ed files in the same way. I'll add some pics in a bit to try and explain.
Also the global is used as that's how I made the shoes dissappear.
