Attention: New NLSC Members

Postby sitew33 on Wed Sep 18, 2019 3:09 am

Hey I've noticed an influx of new guys/gals joining the forum and this is a kinda welcome/advice thread:

1. Modding here for NBA2K is focused on "OFFLINE" modes like My League/My GM. If you got NBA2K on PC because you want to cheat at MC,
The Park, My Team or any of those online modes this probably isn't the place for you. One because outwardly trying to cheat is frowned
upon to put it lightly and also because members here detest the PC cheater because they gives the modding community a bad name
and also leads to NBAK going out of their way to start blocking things that modders use strictly for offline entertainment.
So my advice is stop making post asking how to cheat because as you probably have noticed, you're just going to get ignored and if
you post it enough you'll probably get banned by administrators because cheating is not condoned and shouldn't be associated with
NLSC. Hopefully you will also get banned by 2K as well. I know that sounds harsh but it is what it is. (Read the rules section)

2. If you have a pirated copy please stop asking modders to provide you with and offline version of their mods. We all had to pay
for the game and you should do so as well. Oh yeah and please stop with the "I only asked because for some reason I cant get online"
excuse because no one believes you even if it may possibly be true. Some say they can't afford to buy the game and my only tactful
response to that is, if you do have one of these copies please do us and yourself a favor and keep that info to yourself. (Read the
rules section)

3. On a better note... If you're here because you're a MY league/My GM player, this is a wonderful way to experience it with modding.
Keep in mind that this is a community meaning it's more beneficial if we all give and take to and from the community. By this
I mean try not to have the gimme, gimme, gimme attitude about mods. Try to actually learn things about modding because it can
more fulfilling but it isn't a requirement. If you choose to go the just take approach please at least be respectful to the
modders. Please read the threads. If it says preview it's just that... A preview. When it is released the OP will update the title to
released. Constantly asking and in some cases demanding immediate release isn't going to make the mod come when you want so
just be patient. If you do engage in trying to mod yourself, please go back to the NBA2K18 modding section posts and find
the tutorial section and "read it". A lot of talented modders spent countless hours putting those tutorials (A lot with videos)
out and it gives you everything you need to learn how to mod. Modding isn't easy and you're not going to buy the game today and
know how to mod today. Now I know some will say I want to learn but when I ask questions no one answers me. That is because based
on what you asked modders can tell if you have invested the time to learn things or not. If you go thru the tutorial section
you should know ho to navigate blender, how to extract files, how to open face/png.iff's, how to manipulate the info.RDAT, etc.
If you aren't up to at least those points it's difficult for modders to help you because it's just too much to explain if you don't
understand the basic fundamentals of modding. If you don't want to invest the time in reading or viewing the tutorials no one is going
to invest the time in hand walking you thru modding. Otherwise modders will be very helpful for as much as they are able. Keep in mind
that sometimes you may want to do something that no one knows how to do so don't get upset. Just play around with it yourself because
you may find something new to add to the community. I'm a body edit/accessories fitting person and will help in those areas as much as I
have the knowledge to... So ask and I'm willing to help. Modding will be as enjoyable as you make it.

Once again welcome and I hope you enjoy modding NBA2K as much as I do. Happy Modding.

Well said! One thing I’d add for new members is to please try to avoid creating threads. 75% of what is posted could be put in an existing thread. We don’t need to populate the forum with dozens of the same topic just because someone had an issue with their modded folder. That detracts from amazing creators like mrk326, MLLR, Manni, etc who have already started to produce amazing content.

Find a thread that is relevant to your post and ask there if possible.

Good advice all around. (Y)

As far as creating new topics, I'd probably word it more like "Make a genuine effort to look for a relevant topic and reply there before creating a new topic for something that's already been discussed at length", or words to that effect. I'd rather not discourage people from creating new topics per se as that can spread to the rest of the Forum and we want people to feel free to start conversations, but I agree we need to encourage everyone - new and old members alike - to use existing topics where appropriate.

Another reason we need to avoid any hard rules/policy about using existing topics is that it also gives people an excuse to piggyback on popular but unrelated topics in an attempt to get their question answered. That's why it's important that we explain the etiquette clearly and precisely, so it's not used as a loophole.

Excellent clarification. This is much more in line with what I was trying to get across.

One thing I’d add from my own experience is USE THE SEARCH BAR. Sometimes search bars on sites (reddit for example) are worthless but the NLSC has an excellent one. Taking the time to learn how to navigate around and jump to threads and posts is extremely beneficial. If you want to know if there is a Kobe mod for 2k20, you more than likely don’t need to post, just search. If the search comes back negative, then that’s the opportune time to post.

Appreciate the advice. As a new person to the community I'm not sure where exactly to ask some questions I have. I understand where to look to in past tutorials about modifying face/png/info.RDAT files for standard players but haven't been able to find info on whether created players have those file equivalents.

Created players only have one base PNG each. They are some simulance of the CAP faces you choose. Whatever you do to it will show up on every model of that CAP. So let's say you try to edit face 1 (Sorry but IDK which PNG's are the CAP bases this year. Probably towards the end of the PNG list) PNGxxxx the base wont have any facial at all. No hair, no eyebrows, no mustache/beard. The other issue will be that the accessories probably won't fit correctly. Whatever changes you make will apply to any CAP using face 1. I hope I'm explaining it correctly.

Thanks appreciate the explanation. If they share base PNGs, what about the different body dimensions that each created player has? Different ht, wt, arm lengths, shoulder widths, etc? Just to clarify I'm just trying to alter some of the dimension features such as shoulder width, body length. Not manipulate anything graphically.

Somehow they use a universal body edit system is my guess. Every CAP you create using that face base will have that body base.

I'm not sure if I'm referring to this correctly. In this year's myplayer, you can select different body types (burly, built, etc). I was able to choose a face/body type combo in myplayer, export the roster with limnono, start a new myleague using this exported roster, and then export that playerDNA. So you then have a created player with a different body type then what you have normally if you just went thru the in game CAP.

I'm still trying to figure out where the specific ht, wt, wingspan, shoulder width, body length data is saved for each CAP that is created.

I get what you're saying Andrew, but respectfully, people create posts about a certain topic or problem that may have already been touched on, because they've got no response to their question or problem. I'm a "Old Head" on this site, and I admit, while not proper etiquette, I've done this plenty of times trying to find a answer to my question. Some are very good and helpful answering like bluejay, Dee4three and yourself, some others aren't. I ask a lot of questions about things I don't understand. If I respond to a particular post, sometimes my question will sit there unanswered, and drop to the bottom of the page. Thanks for your commitment to this site.

Maybe we all need chat on this forum. It can safe a lot of time for questions

That is another problem, definitely. That's why I said it's hard to have too strict of a policy, because posts can get overlooked, or it's not quite the same issue, and so on. It's more about situations such as having an active topic near the top of the board about the external file plugin not working (to use a current example), and someone else posting about the exact same issue without even looking first or bothering to read through the topic that can't be missed.

Sith wrote:Maybe we all need chat on this forum. It can safe a lot of time for questions

Chat is the last thing we need, as it'll basically kill the discussion and traffic (and in turn we won't get the ad revenue, and won't be able to afford to keep running). It's a moot point anyway as there aren't any good chat plugins for the software we're running, and I'm not going to install a solution that's problematic or that I'm not at all satisfied with in terms of functionality.
