It's impossible for us to know whether his body will hold up for the length of a season, or even if he's been able to regain enough athleticism to even get a chance to prove himself.
However, the thing that impresses me is his hunger to get back. A lot of guys would have said "well, my body is a wreck, but I've still got a truckload of cash from my contract, so I can retire to booze and hookers". To his credit, Jay has worked his butt off to get back as far as he has, and seems really determined to prove he can still play. Maybe there's a bit of remourse about his own stupidity mixed in there too, but heck, having a chip on your shoulder (even if the anger is self directed) is often the best motivator.
There's obviously question marks over his body, but attitude and desire wise, this could work out to be something that works for him. Even if he can't be the athlete he once was, a guy that works his guts out night in night out sounds like the kind of player who'd appeal to Scott Skiles coaching philosophy, and so I think there's a good chance he'll at the least be given a fair crack at it.
To jump off the fence, I'd say he'll be worth more than the minimum contract he'll sign in his first year back, being a solid rotation player, and possibly a starter in the future once he's actually had a full season of real competition behind him. He'll never be a star, but given his performance before his accident, I think that even had he not been injured you'd have no guarantee he'd be one either.
