So if a guy just padded his stats by taking all the shots and dominating the ball on a horrible team he should be rewarded with the MVP? Please, get out of here man.
I'm not sure why everyone is going with Billups either. Billups is 4th in assists per 48 minutes, behind Nash, Baron Davis, and Brevin Knight. He's not even leading his own position in the most crucial category for PG's. And he's 34th in ppg. That's good, but 34th in scoring isn't even all-star caliber.
Chauncey is also 129th in steals if you're going to say his defense is what should get him there. Baron Davis is 5th in steals, and Brevin Knight is 2nd. I wouldn't even give Chauncey Billups the most valuable point guard, let alone put him above players like Lebron, Kobe, Wade and Arenas.
Actually, the more I look into things, the more I think Brevin Knight should win the MIP award this year... not only that, he's averaging more assists than Chauncey and he's playing on the expansion Bobcats.
1) Chauncey Billups' team plays a slower pace than all of those teams. Phoenix is #1 in FGA, Charlotte #2, and GS #5. Detroit is #12. The more shots your team is taking, the more chances for an assist. If the Pistons were taking 7 more shots a game, Chauncey's assists would go up about 9.3 APG. In addition to that, the Pistons offensive gameplan is not for Chauncey to dominate the ball and almost be the only playmaker like some of these other guys are. In a similar situation he would also have the numbers.
2) Mentioning steals as a gauge for defense was your first mistake. Sadly but surely, getting steals does not equal playing good defense. Bowen is agreat man to man defender and is not known for his ability to steal the ball because he does what's important, playing straight up defense and stopping his man from scoring. Not to pass judgement, but the fact that you boldly felt steals somehow meant good defense says a little about your basketball knowledge. Steals can be part of your defensive ability, but not everyone that can rack up steals is a good defender, many guys just like to gamble a lot, and their 2/5 success rate gives 3 other oppurtunities for the other team to have an open shot of for their defense to be in dissaray.
3) This is talk about MVP, not MIP, Brevin Knight averged more assists in less minutes last season, and is not the MIP by any means.
It sure does. It's one of the difference why Jason Kidd wasn't MVP when he moved to the Nets, and Steve Nash was one.
Well their was the whole Duncan dominating that year with 26-13-4
