You're comparing general public with elite athletes?

I wouldn't exactly call O-Miller an 'elite athlete'... But I guess exceptions have to appear so as the rule will be solidified...

1. Magic Johnson
2. Jordan

The early Jordan years would have turned off a team focused on winning in the post-season, as he was what the critics labelled him: a one-dimensional scorer.

The truly amazing thing is that Jordan completely changed what kind of player he was from college/early-NBA to the dynasty Jordan. He became more a passer, became smarter half-court, a defensive monster, a rebounder, a post-up player.

We see young player struggle mightily to improve their school game even a little bit (cough Kwame cough), it's truly amazing the kind of evolution Jordan went through.

If age didn't stop him, i'm convinced he would have kept on polishing that post game and have become unstoppable anywhere on the court.

Yes.

The same rules do not apply. It's not like body fat % (or overall conditioning)of an 'average' NBA caliber athlete went up since the 60'. They don't eat the same stuff as the general public does and they most certainly don't train the same way. Like D-Weaver said, today's training methods and nutrition are far more advanced than ever before and basketball players use them. Of course, there are some exceptions, but like D-Weaver again said, those are just exceptions. You cannot compare a basketball player with average Joes across America. They don't have a lot of thing in common. Of course, average weight of basketball went north, but weight doesn't tell you anything. Wade is around my height and has 60 pounds more than me. Does that make him fatter :)?

Sports science has improved, but alot of todays food is worse than the food in the 1960's. I need to see some proof that body fat is indeed lower in athletes than the rest of society.

Do you think Kobes, Amares, Wallaces of the NBA are eating at McDonald's regulary? That they don't have prescripted nutrition? Proteins? Low calorie input? That 82 games per year and playoffs, plus shootarounds, practices, plyometrics, weights (...) don't lower their body fat? Look at their definition. They are motherfuckin' ripped. You're basically saying that the only things that divides NBA athletes from the rest of society are their talent/skills and height. WTF? I have yet to see a athlete from the 60' who was as ripped as Iguodala, Big Ben, David Robinson...

Some rookies and less motivated players to eat correctly. Sure like you say, The upper echelon is in great shape. But there's always been strong men in the league. Russell was just as well toned as a young dennis rodman. Nate Thurmond was ripped too, as was jerry west and kareem. Sure they arent as big and strong as todays big men...

but hold on. If todays big men are so much more athletically gifted, does that mean there is a question mark over whether wilt can dominate in todays nba? Dweaver? :proud:.

Vank, you have some great opinions.
