A couple of odds and ends from those three series:
- Anfernee Hardaway's numbers. 16.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 5.8 apg, 1.5 spg. Starting in 3 of the 4 first round games, Penny's numbers kind of looked like the Penny we once knew. I really hope he gets more minutes next season.
- One of the most dangerous playoff players in the past 15 years, Reggie Miller, averaged only 9.8 ppg in the first round, just under his regular season average but less than half his career playoff average. Even though Miller deserves a lot of respect for accepting a lesser role on a team he's done so much for, it's kind of sad to see him so quiet at the offensive end.
- The Grizzlies expansion cousins, the Toronto Raptors, were also swept in their first playoff appearance (2000). Both teams were the sixth seed in their first playoff appearance.
I don't think the results of these three series are too surprising, though as an unbiased observer of the six teams involved, it would have been nice to see the lower seeds save face and pick up at least one win.
As far as the poll is concerned, I'm predicting we won't see any sweeps in the second round.
