Three teams have been unable to avoid being swept in the first round: the Knicks, Grizzlies and Celtics.
A couple of odds and ends from those three series:
- Anfernee Hardaway's numbers. 16.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 5.8 apg, 1.5 spg. Starting in 3 of the 4 first round games, Penny's numbers kind of looked like the Penny we once knew. I really hope he gets more minutes next season.
- One of the most dangerous playoff players in the past 15 years, Reggie Miller, averaged only 9.8 ppg in the first round, just under his regular season average but less than half his career playoff average. Even though Miller deserves a lot of respect for accepting a lesser role on a team he's done so much for, it's kind of sad to see him so quiet at the offensive end.
- The Grizzlies expansion cousins, the Toronto Raptors, were also swept in their first playoff appearance (2000). Both teams were the sixth seed in their first playoff appearance.
I don't think the results of these three series are too surprising, though as an unbiased observer of the six teams involved, it would have been nice to see the lower seeds save face and pick up at least one win.
As far as the poll is concerned, I'm predicting we won't see any sweeps in the second round.

Come on New York, let him go, please, i wanna see the penny again!
ehheeheee
Penny is still a good player, not as good as he was of course, but damn ,he can still play, he was making some nice moves, and nice shots in the series from the couple of games i saw.

i thought penny did a good job as well, proving that he could still give good minutes. i didn't see flashes of the old penny out there though, just an old penny throwing floaters and jumpers.
the miller situation has been pretty much an ongoing thing this whole season. his diminished role is a result of the other pacers players developing into solid players. the pacers are a very dangerous team when players like bender, croshere and jones are on their game. anyway, i think in these next few rounds, miller won't be as quiet as he was against the hapless celts
i think the pacers can sweep the heat

Pacers sweeping the Heat/Hornets seem to be the best chance of any sweep happening although I doubt that since whoever advances will have some confidence and should win 1 on their home court.
Anfernee Hardaway number were pretty good filling in for Allan Houston for the most part. I think the Knicks maybe actually keep him on the roster and leve Allan Houston unprotected ( chances of the Bobcats taking on his terrible contract are
very slim.)
The Grizzlies just got screwed playing the Spurs. Spurs are looking like the best team in the west since they haven't lost in over a month and just have that defense going ( they also got the "Kobe Stopper" which should be interesting if they play the Lakers

)

What do u mean...'IF'....
Lakers will play Spurs...but I hope they do well cause Bowen will play hard D against Kobe and it will be up to Payton/Malone and the bench to produce...Payton/Malone are LA's only hope!

I dont think it will happen. Heat are a force now!
Payton/Malone are LA's only hope!
There is also another guy. Whats his name again? Oh yeah SHAQ!

haha what's up with people putting their memberships on the line? who started all of this?
i'm willing to put my membership on the line with any laker fan on this forum that the spurs will defeat the lakers, assuming the lakers do advance to the conference semifinals
please, do not be shy to take my invitation. aren't some people getting sick of hearing bulls/anti-laker talk and want to get rid of "mr. basketball"?
Wed Apr 28, 2004 6:13 am
I'll do it.
Wed Apr 28, 2004 6:42 am
Im in aswell
Wed Apr 28, 2004 7:37 am
L.A is playing so bad right now...i mean its ok for the rockets (no ofence) but the spurs is something else...
They look pretty impressive to me and i think it possible, just possible u know..., that they could lose 4-0.
I think that is just unbiased but dont get me wrong im just saying it could happen with what ive seen so far.
Hopefully the lakers will step up but even if they do so its gonna be a close one.

yippee! 2 so far that will be gone from this forum or at least comeback with a new nickname
i know there's more who want to do this. where are all those die hard lakers fans? c'mon, the lakers received the most votes as the nlsc's favorite team and i remember reading a lot posts saying the lakers will win the championship.
what better way to show your support for your team by taking on the challenge? or are you all just, dare i say, scared that the lakers will lose?

I can understand where you're coming from Guillus, the Spurs are after all the reigning NBA Champions. Plus, the Lakers are playing nothing compared to what they should be playing like, superb basketball that is.
These are things I've taken into consideration, thus their chances of losing against the Spurs. It's pretty big, but, I'm willing to put my membership up for it. I have faith as I've had all these years and I hope, I hope they will not disappoint me. Oh, and what could be more lucrative than Limpy giving up his membership? This is quite tricky, since he doesnt lose anything. Oh well, atleast the Lakers are actually IN the playoffs.
In short: My faith in the LA Lakers is worth more than the membership to this forum. But, I doubt I'll have to leave, that's the amount of faith I have, I could be wrong...who knows? Only time will tell, oh...are me & Sebastian the only 2 that actually have the balls to do this? Where are the other Laker fans?
Oh & Guillus, try to edit your last post. It's easier for the forum members such as me, I thought another person posted after what you said. Confusion, confusion.

I have so much faith in the Lakers that I am in....btw- go Shaq/Kobe/Malone/Payton... these guys have to actually play to beat San Antonio!

Strange......I count 1

Naw Seb, I count zero. Knowing Limpy, he'll brush off the bet saying he wasnt serious and will continue posting. *Sigh* That's the type of person he is.

your consistent derogatory comments aimed at me & referring to me as "limpy" come as no surprise... i think this is going to be fun but if you're going to play the negative role and take shots at me, then i'd rather you not participate at all
it's been over a day now and only 2 have accepted the invitiation. i'm beginning to believe that only 2 laker fans here have faith.
Thu Apr 29, 2004 7:32 am
2? i forgot to put this in my previous post...
im betting my membership only if the lakers will get swept ... this time seriously..
Thu Apr 29, 2004 8:26 am
the_game: you're more then welcome to join in. but the bet is not based on whether the spurs will sweep or not.
to avoid further confusion...
official rules: (assuming the lakers advance to the conference semifinals)
*select winner of the spurs & lakers series
*if your selection wins the series, you retain your beloved membership to the nlsc forum.
*if your selection loses the series, pack your bags and start looking for another nba live forum because you just lost your beloved nlsc membership.
***bonus: for the daring only- you can choose to include your membership to the nbalive.org forum in the wager as well. i will place *** next to the names who choose this option
so far...
spurs:
1. crawford4MIP4real***
2. magius
lakers:
1. Psycho Jackal
2. k08e4mvp
