The Clippers

Thu Oct 30, 2008 2:47 pm

Are getting pwned.

So, do you guys think that this team will make it?

Nine new players and all, no chemistry what-so-ever...

Do they make the playoffs?

The make-up of the team is interesting. They are still missing Camby, but Kaman could do a fair job. They seem to miss a steady scoring option and I'm surprised that they didn't play R.Davis near as much... he would be a great 6th man.

It sure is hard to make them playoffs in the West.

My answer to this question is a sure "No." I don't think that there's a chance in hell of them making it.

They'd be lucky to win 35.

Nobody knows. If you look at what they have on paper, they don't have a bad team. Davis, Mobley, Ricky Davis, Thornton, Camby, Tim Thomas, Kaman, Eric Gordon.. The thing is thought this is a totally different team from the core they had. It's no longer the inside out, slashing scoring of Brand and Maggette.

Basically, it's as far as Baron can carry them. He's done a good job carrying less before (back in his Charlotte days) but that was a much weaker conference.

I don´t think they make the playoffs because the West is to strong and I don´t think they stay healthy long enough. They are definetly better than last year but I don´t see the palyoofs coming for the clippers

The Clippers suffer from franchisitis. No matter who they have on their team, they will never win a championship. Elton Brand and Sam Cassell could have had won a championship a few years ago, unfortunately they were playing for the Clippers.

Kaman is overrated trash. He is only effective if you give him the ball in a post scenario, and even then he is just above average, not someone you can keep going to. He seems to get lost on the court, sometimes. He can't catch a pass, so Baron's drive and dish plays to Kaman will end up in turnovers. Will the Clips make him a main option for scoring while opening up their outside shooters? It will only work if he plays well, otherwise it's one on one coverage.

Baron Davis will overestimate his teammates, and I will be surprised if he doesn't fake an injury or ask for a trade before the season is over, even in his hometown.

It will get exciting the more the team practices as they begin to click. However, the franchisitis will kick in with injuries, and when they are in a position to make a run, they will toss up jumpshots like they have done every single season(excluding seasons where they have made the playoffs).

Do they make the playoffs? Only if there is a playoff for teams with the most losses. This is all coming from a Clipper fan. What a waste, so I watch Laker games.

They're not devoid on talent but I'm not sold on them being a surprise team just yet. If they get through the first month with a winning record and are still sniffing around the top eight in the new year then maybe they're in with a shot but despite not being completely devoid of talent I don't think much of their chances.

I don't think the Clippers will challenge for a playoff spot this season. I'm thinking the Clippers will finish about 10th in the West.

Now that I think about it, if they can't come away with winning half of their games by December, they should just tank and look to get a top draft pick.

I'm hoping for some kind of difference in the Clippers, though. They have a new GM in Mike Dunleavy, and depending on what he can do with the increased roster control that he may have by being both the coach and GM, the teams future could be a good one. The present isn't looking that good, so far. I know it's only been one game and they just faced a championship contender that has had a team that has been playing together for while. Maybe it would have looked a little different with Camby in the lineup. Camby injured before the season even started shows you the Clipper injury bug.

I forgot to vote on the poll. No they do not make the playoffs.

As I said three months ago, no, they're crap. 25 win team.

They needed a miracle season from Chris Kaman to win 23 games last year. They effectively traded their two best offensive players for two worse ones. And they were only 28th on offense last season.

Mike Taylor looks like the real deal, and we've always known Steve Novak can go on three point bombing binges. And Gordon looked solid in the preseason. But when you're playing losers like Al Thornton, Ricky Davis, Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley most of the minutes you aren't going to win many games. And when your best offensive player is Baron Davis, you certainly aren't going to win many games.

Warriors, Kings and Timberwolves are far more interesting questions.

Fri Oct 31, 2008 8:55 am

Yeah, I think that I share the same sentiment as you guys, especially Benji... seems like they're gonna tank.

I still think that Camby could be a positive surprise if he actually puts his head in the game. They have absolutely no reliable offensive options though. Novak really is a fun player to watch, I wish that he'd play for a better team that would use him as a spot-up shooter... kinda like Korver with the Jazz.

Warriors really should be the big surprise of the season, as long as Ellis stays healthy. I would actually like to see them trade Harrington after all of these damn rumors, he's slightly undersized for a forward and they could use another big man.

All in all, it's gonna be fun to watch the Clipps suck.

Al Thornton a loser?

The Clipps will win 30 games as much

You have nothing to base that poorly worded prediction on.

do you mean Monta "moped" Ellis, just a wild guess, I think he get´s injured and is out for at least the first 30 games and in this West that´s enough to make a team scream lottery.

to the clips:
I think they have a better team then last year (at least if they stay healthy). Davis is good at point and can lead the team and involve other players by creating shots. Maggette was more a creator for his own shots. Camby should give them a boost on defense, the guards can play the passing lanes because it´s going to be hard to drive against Kaman and Camby. If you compare last season with this one it´s like a trade of Maggette for Camby and Davis (Brand was out most of last year) and this is going to be an improvement. Furthermore I expect a lot of Al Thornton this year.

Fixed. He's 6'9" and weighs 250.

Way to address the issue (Y)

Sat Nov 01, 2008 9:55 am

I'm not sure if they make the playoffs just yet, a few years ago i could see this team making it somewhere in the 6-8 spots quite easily. Give them time i guess. Baron is going to get their fans right into it, like he did in GS, it's going to be great for them.

Sat Nov 01, 2008 8:02 pm

Kaman ended todays game with a 5 foot jumpshot. It was an airball. Baron Davis injured his tailbone, and Kenyon Martin sealed the game in overtime with a 3 pointer.

Mon Nov 03, 2008 7:45 am

they lost to the Nuggets by 10 points, they are the new Heat

Mon Nov 03, 2008 7:59 am

^
What has losing by ten to the Nuggets to do with being the Heat?

Mon Nov 03, 2008 8:00 am

No. They are still the Clippers of old.

Mon Nov 03, 2008 9:57 am

Clips to seattle please.

what I meant to say it the Clippers are going to be last year's Heat except in the west. The West is alot better than the East and if the Clippers cant bea the Nuggets, no way they will make the playoffs and no way they'll win 25>games

Mon Nov 03, 2008 7:03 pm

So they are basically going to be last years Clippers.

Wow at some of the stats against Utah. 18 Clipper turnovers to 4 by Utah. 12 assists to 29 by Utah.

And yet you all keep rejecting and denouncing me!

Tue Nov 04, 2008 12:54 am

I don't think the Clippers will make the playoffs.

Warriors, Kings and Timberwolves

I don't think any of these teams will either. Warriors will fall short, Kings and 'Wolves will be lucky to get 30.

East: Atlanta, Toronto, Detroit, Boston, Indiana, Cleveland, Orlando, Philadelphia

West: Houston, Los Angeles, Utah, New Orleans, Phoenix, Dallas, San Antonio, Portland

Those are my predictions.
Just my opinion!
