In Game: Changing Shooting Style (MYSTERY SOLVED!)

Sun Jul 13, 2008 1:19 am

Hey... I feel like I should know this, but I don't.

Is there a way to change the shooting style of players in the dbf? Not the FSS players or for the 3 Pt Competition, but the way the players shoot the ball in a normal game. It seems like when I'm playing the game the non-FSS players shoot the ball differently as well. Maybe I'm nuts. Anyhow, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If there's not a way, that's fine. Maybe this has been asked in some way before, but I was unable to find anything that wasn't covered under FSS or 3 Pt Competition. Huge thanks, guys.

You might want to wait a little longer than that. Not everyone is online at the same time and not everyone has the same knowledge.

Players with a Dribbling rating under 60 have a different shooting form, which accommodates big men who don't have a good shot outside a few feet (since they're usually not strong ballhandlers either).

I know this is on old topic, but are there other attributes that can be altered in order to get players to shoot more like a "big man"? I dropped dribbling and shooting down below 50, and several other attributes and the shooting style is still like that of a guard or the player still has a "shooter's form". It almost seems arbitrary what shooting form a player has. Does it matter if it is a "Created Player" or does the SCOREAREA or THREEPTSTY or any of the FSS attributes make any difference to the in-game shooting style? This is driving me nuts... Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

Player weight used to be a factor as well but as far as I know it doesn't come into play in determining shooting styles in NBA Live 07.

Thanks for the help... This is driving me insane! I've played around with every attribute and rating that I can to determine why a player shoots a certain way, and it just seems completely random. I mean, typically the big guys have the non-shooter style shot, but some of the big men shoot like guards, regardless of the FG, 3PT, size, or ball handling ability. I just want to be able to apply the shot types to certain players. :wall:

Maybe try making there secondary position as a PF/C or changing the dbf value of SCOREAREA to one that a big man uses. I bet shooting range has something to do with it, too. Probably FG's and 3's as well.

Thanks for the help, Pdub. I thought about that as well, however, I have a player that shoots like a big man that is a good 2 & 3 pt shooter (FG & 3PT rated over 60+) a low dribbling ability (52) with 25 foot range and a different player with basically the exact same settings and SCOREAREA that shoots like a guard. I compared them and I'm not seeing any noticeable difference in the dbf file, yet they each have a different shooting style. Its really stupid. EA should have simply had a setting to select a players' shooting style, because real life players have a myriad of different shooting forms. I'm just sure there is some column that I am missing that is the key. I'm working on some Euro teams, and they have alot of big men that can shoot, but even though they are good shooters, they still don't shoot the ball with the same shooting form as Alan Iverson, so I'm trying to tweak that. I know 07 isn't the more popular of the two current LIVE's for PC but with all of the tweaks, fixes, and updates I like it much better than 08. Plus, I'm one of the 3 people in the universe that actually liked FSS--especially since you can assign it to players so easily.

Thanks again for the suggestions, you guys, and if anybody else thinks of something or has the solution, I would greatly appreciate any help, because this is extremely frustrating trying to crack this code.

Try creating a new player with those exact same ratings and see which shooting style it assigns. It may be that once you create a player and his shooting form is assigned, it's been set and changing the ratings no longer affects it.

Awesome, Andrew. That's a good point, man. I spent 4 hours last night adjusting every attribute rating, SCOREAREA, 3 PT style, shooting range, etc. with no luck. It still seems like there would have to be something in the dbf file which determined the shooting style, but you're right... I'm sure that it is probably assigned during creation. The only reason I have some doubt is when I create a team, I create all of the players by entering all of the info about them--minus the ratings. Then once I've created all the players for the team, I go back in and adjust their ratings. So, maybe what I'll have to do is create a player, go in practice mode and check out their shooting style, then if it is to my liking, go back in and do the ratings. That's just wacky, but what can you do?

Thanks again for the help and suggestions. If I have some success with this, I will let you guys know, just for your curiosity's sake.

HOLY CRAP... MYSTERY SOLVED!

Well, after some good suggestions and tenacity to solve this silly ass mystery, I've finally figured the three exact factors to changing the shooting style. The three keys are passing, dribbling, and body weight. So, Andrew, weight still plays a part in the shooting style--and I am glad you mentioned that. In order to get them to have the "big man" shot, you have to have the players weight at 241 or higher and the passing and dribbling must be 58 or lower. If you don't like the player sporting the "THICK" body, you can change his BODY number in the dbf, as long as you keep his actual weight above 241, then it will work.

Thanks again for everyone's suggestions and help. (Y) Now I can rest easily tonight.

Great, thanks for the heads up; handy to know that weight plays a part in determining the shooting style. (Y)
