the computer cheats!!!

Postby aportillo on Thu Dec 05, 2002 3:58 am

Hi;

Does anyone know why, everytime im winning by 15 or more points, my players starts to failing easy baskets (dunks, mid range jumpers); and the computer team (ANY TEAM!!); starts to score 3 pointers, fast break points... anything, until the diference is not greater than 6 or less points?

any ideas?

It's called the NBA--have you ever watched a game--no lead is safe! You just have to keep your head in the game--the computer trys to rattle you by making 2 or 3 three pointers in a row--you just got to keep your cool.

Had a game last night, had the lead all game (no more than 8 though)--the the 4th quarter--Christie hits 2 three pointers in a row--I was like WTF! Then I miss a lay up and bibby hits a running jumper on my ass. Now I'm down by 2 with 13 seconds. I hold for the last shot, and I miss with Jason Terry. After the game I sat there looking at the screen--and thought about the mistakes I made in the 4th quarter. Like the 2 three pointers I missed with Robinson when I didn't need to take it, the I made a stupid pass to Ratliff. Little things like that will kill you in a close game. I got the Lakers next, but hopefully I'll learn from this.

I love the challenge. Players get hot--it's the game.I like how the game portryals "runs" because the NBA is all about runs. You can't avoid runs, it happens, you just have to learn to keep your head in it and make good decisions.

Just my .2 cents--but I love that I'm not killing the cpu anymore--I'll take a loss if it's my own damn fault.

:( but that happen even keeping a downtempo kind of game, trying to keep the control of the ball, running screens to find a high percent basket, keeping my defender in front the computers attacker.

i enjoy, close games... but some times is riduculous to loose for 1 point after reaching the middle of the 4th period with a 23 point lead!

is just my feeling.

Good points on this issue. I have found though that keeping "YOUR" head when the CPU is going to make a run is key. There is a small programming issue in regards to the CPU "comeback" run not the lead run.

In the comeback run the CPU uses glue to stick to your ballhandler and also shifts into turbo mode. But the mistake it usually makes is to Double team. It is easier to beat the DB team with "DIRECT PASSES" up the court. DONT try to dribble out of it, DONT try to freestyle up the court like you could eariler in the game, don't take any stupid shots and don't have crash boards on because if you miss your guards will NOT rotate and that will help the CPU turbo fastbreak.

Use timeouts to change the game pace at the right time, answer baskets and really sound "D" is the only way to deal with the run at the high levels of this game.

Frankly, real basketball strategy and smart on the court play under the CPU pressure is the key to keeping the lead in this game. One other key thing when under the comeback run is often overlooked by most players "OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS". I have had some of my best put backs when the CPU is trying to run because they are not just sitting under the basket with five men.
Have fun :D

a realy good way of keeping your edge is to stay sharp on whenever the pc makes moves like "post-up" ... if that happens... and that happens quite a lot to me, call a double team immediately and control one of the players that are double teaming and you are sure to steal the ball... also try to look on which pc players are the ones that take the most shots...
concentrate your "D" players on them and you are sure to have results.
for example I played against hmmmm I think washington one day...
and I guarded stackhouse realy hard in the 4th and suddenly saw he does nothing, and apparently juan dixon was on a real madness scoring everytime he got the chance so I started conventrating my "d" on him and in no time I stoped their big ralley behind him.
also if u are using full court tactic then drop it and switch to a half court man to man defense to not let the pc make big fastbreaks...

This is really terrible, all i can do is to be careful and draw the foul as many as i can, and make the freethrow to get points. If the CPU really made a come back, don't be nervous, keep playing basketball game, you'll be fine.

i totally agree that when the cpu is down by about 15-25 points they get 10-0 runs so fast that you wont even notice their at the driver's seat... i usually get miss dunks... take note... ray allen... even duncan miss their dunks... i admit i make stupid kick out passes but when i get fastbreaks thats the result... miss shot... it makes no sense... ray allen going for a fastbreak and miss... wow... he is gonna kill me... hahahaha

Please check whether option "CPU ASSISTANT" is on
If it's "ON", turn it "OFF"!

Well,in the default option, CPU Assistant is OFF.
Actually, I never turned it on.
However, I couldn't stop the AI from cheating....like a 2X Turbo Lightspeed or make my player miss in a fast-break dunk.

don't u guys think there are too many runs in this game?

CPU does cheat! that stupid AI needs it to keep the game "balance", it wants it to look like a "real" NBA match. but actually it's not. when it needs points, it will make some cheating such as running turn around fade-away 3 pts and making my players idiots.

I hate it!

kalum your right ..... but neither me nor you nor anyone would want to stop playing the game for these reasons. We have to live with it and try to win regardless. This i think is the main complaint and its just that the game cheats and even though theyre are ways to hold on and still pull out a close win the game still makes some feel cheated. The more i play the more i learn to deal with the seemingly incredible cpu scoring runs but my new issue is that whenever i get to start taking control of a game my teammates start to make the most ridiculous fouls at the most inappropriate times and they suddenly start gettin alot of goal tending calls (even on three pointers from the oppsition  ).

The only thing I would add is that the CPU really punishes you for any mistake made, but especially if it is on a run. So try not to "beat" the CPU in this run mode, just contiue to play smart BB and work your offense. Once again hitting the open man with "DIRECT PASSES" can get you quick answer baskets, that will stop the CPU run.

Playing really sound "D" in the full court press can also cause the CPU to miss shots(DUNKS included) and put you in better position to draw charge fouls on the CPU.

I have found that it is effective to DB team the CPU guard in the backcourt and then get in position to draw a foul. You see, the CPU doesn't pass as effectively as it should and trys many times to freestyle its way up the court. Draw the charge baby!.

Last thought. I was playing this guy online last night and routed him soundly(no quitter) something like 50-29. He chatted me afterward and was shocked by the way I was able to play "D". I just thought to myself how else can I win, I mean "O" is important, but "D" leads to many easy baskets and wins games.

Enjoy

let's face it...most games in general..the cpu cheats
it's a way for programmers to make a game harder cuz there's no way they can program something to outthink or outplay a good human opponent...either that or the ppl at EA are just too damn lazy to make a better AI program for the Nba live series...i swear..they still play like they did in Nba live 2000..except for a few minor changes (fast breaks..steals..ugh)..i don't find the cpu cheating THAT much more than previous incarnations of this series
