Skills Challenge Contestants Announced

Tue Feb 05, 2008 1:51 pm

http://www.nba.com/allstar2008/skills_c ... 80204.html

Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Jason Kidd and Dwyane Wade

A couple surprises... Paul and Wade were expected, Paul being an MVP candidate and the All-star game being in NO, and Wade the 2 time defending champ. I had expected Kobe and Tony Parker to occupy the other 2 spots though, so Kidd and Williams were relative surprises.

Not that the Skills Challenge is a big deal though, but hopefully this year's is better than last year's.

Bleh, who cares? What a lousy event.

I'd rather see big men do it.

Kendrick Perkins, Reggie Evans, Darko, and Eddy Curry.

If the contestants actually tried then one of them might do it in like 15 secs instead it takes them like 35 because they basically walk so i ask what the hell is the point of it??

^Thank You. My sentiments exactly.

Atleast make them dodge some huge spiked pistons or something while dribbling between cones. Make them jump over a pit of acid for a rebound, and have their wives tied up in a guillotine where the blade will cut off their heads if the player doesn't finish the course in a certain amount of time.

Make them do it "five-legged" with a badger.

Saw 5 anyone? Or whichever number they're on now.
I think they already have plans for like the eight one?

I must admit, I'd enjoy that too

This is kinda a dull event in my opinion and Wade wins this too much. I hope he doesn't win this year.

Also yes, I think the bigs would be more enjoyable to watch. xD

It's had its moments but the novelty's worn off.

Make something electrified and we've got ourselves an event.

How about the ball? No pain, no gain.

this event sucks anyway, i miss the 3 on 3 game they had

That could work, but just to make it interesting some of the basketballs would be electrified and others would not.

They should throw in some American Gladiators instead of pylons, do the hole tossing further up as in the audience where they could potentially hit some (or they get free balls), and raise the rim to 12 feet. That's a fun event.

i would like it better if each team sent a cheerleader to compete in the event

Wed Feb 06, 2008 7:49 pm

lol at the suggestions

but I like the event. something must be wrong with me.

My idea is that this event would work a whole lot better if there were, say, eight contestants, and instead of competing to finish in the shortest time, they can do a brackets format in which two players go against each other at a time (4 pairs in the first round, 2 in the semifinals, 1 pair of course for the finals). The reason is that it becomes a lot more competitive when guys actually race against each other - i.e. if Kobe sees Wade five steps ahead of him, he probably wouldn't be able to swallow that, and would actually go at full speed.

If the above takes too long to finish, there could be another way: have 3 players from each conference and make them 3-player teams. Then we can have two teams in a relay race and it would get really exciting. Imagine one team losing at first and then the last super fast guy turns the tide!

I don't think the Skills Challenge needs to be expanded further. All jokes aside, it should probably go the way of 2-Ball (which reminds me of Cheryl Miller's quote from the 1998 All-Star Weekend, "Forget the dunk contest, 2-Ball is here to stay!").
