Benji...stfu...ALFA, me personally I am an atheist, I don't believe in a higher power or in a guy that made the universe. I dont believe in a god that loves his kids so much, yea has natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina or Terrorist attacks on nations such as 9/11...He wouldn't take the lives of young children to cancer...I dont believe in you ahve to worship a god to go to a better place after death, which basically means you can never do a thing wrong in your life, but if you don't worship god you goto hell---then there is the rapist who raped an 11 year old daughter, who is he asks for forgiveness and every sunday for the rest of his pitiful life in prison he worships god he gets to go to heaven...Fuck That...One more thing that actually confuses me is God gives us a choice yet he knows what we are going to do? wtf...

This is my opinion on Christianity, I haven't really read up on other religions

Please be noted that the following was beat by one minute:
Yes, that's true, but if he thinks that is the best idea, then why not? It probably wouldn't work, but whatever floats your boat. Then again, that just makes me a hypocrite so whatever...

I'm not a Muslim but alot of Muslim girls I know don't wear a head scarf and they definitely do date...

He was probably talking about the families that follow it stricter.

You have no idea how much this post made me laugh  you started talking about being an atheist, then went on some bizarre rant about 9/11, kids with cancer, rapists and Katrina and finished it all off with "This is my opinion on Christianity". I love this thread.

I know, I begin to ramble...I'm saying if god was real and so loving these things would have never happened...lol, sorry for the rant :D

I'm saying if god was real and so loving these things would have never happened

Which means nothing, as that is not Christianity.

Tue Jan 08, 2008 12:21 pm

...In my opinion...Like christians say (not all, but ones who have tried it on me) "God is loving, yada yada yada"...I used to goto church for many years and damn this could be just trying to be a rebel against my dad by not believing, but to me a such high almighty power wouldn't let bad things happen to his children...you kind fo get what I am saying? Of course there are things I would LIKE to be real, but in my eyes stuff from the bible reminds me of some kind of fable...like a Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter...something that can't possibly be real...Also, I know I don't have a lot of knowledge on the religion, but this is just my opinion...

Tue Jan 08, 2008 12:27 pm

Well, you implied you had "read up" on Christianity...while exhibiting a lack of understanding that there are differences in Christian theory, like all theories.

Claiming to lack a belief system doesn't make it true, make one rational, or a higher authority...as so many internet "athiests" have proven.

If you were a parent, would you never want your kid to experience some level of trial and hardship as they grow? I don't mean anything major or debilitating, but things such as learning to ride a bike; you know your kid is going to struggle at first, fall down a few times, and eventually they will learn from their mistakes and master the skill. I, for one, never want my future children to have everything handed to them. You ever notice how people who have been through struggles in life and overcome these struggles are far more interesting and personable than someone whose never had to work for anything?

This is why I believe God puts hardship upon us. What would be the point of life if nothing bad ever happened? If nothing were difficult and humanity never had to overcome struggles, what would be the motivation for progression and self-improvement? If the cavemen didn't have to work hard to find sustenance, would they ever have felt the need to discover fire? If people weren't fed up with carrying heavy objects over long distances, would they have been motivated to create the wheel? Life would be utterly pointless if nobody had to overcome anything. Imagine the life of Billy Madison before he went back to school...

As far as the "fables" in the Bible...those stories are in every religion. And don't take them so seriously. Did Jesus really walk on water? Did Moses really part the sea? Did Muhammad really hallucinate in a cave and see an angel?...who knows. But your faith in a religion shouldn't be based upon whether any of these did or did not happen. Rather, delve deeper and discover the themes and the lessons these stories present. Whether it's Christianity, Islam, Judaism or whatever, EVERY story in their Holy Book has life lessons to learn from.

Don't take everything so literally, because that's where stupid disagreements occur over miniscule details.

Tue Jan 08, 2008 3:45 pm

Dro...thank you, that was actually very worth reading and I udnerstand exactly what you are saying and even though I understand your hardship talk, I still don't see why god has to sacrifice younger kids to make a point across adults (if that's what he is intending)

Benji...You know, I have absolutely no respect for you...I mean sure you have your opinion, but it really gets to me when you call me an online "atheist" As if you know me and are accusing of me lying...why the fuck would some one lie about being an athiest? You know how much shit I get for that? I mean I don't get near as much as Muslims and othe rreligions that have been given bad names, but still...

I just really hate religion overall because to me religion gives you a way of judging people and basing that person on their religion. Like most people I know (in person) believe since a group of radical muslims bombed us they are all bad, I personally want to judge somebody on how they act as a person and how respectful they are to other and how they treat others around them. I don't want to condemn someone for believing differently then me. I want to look at a person and think of that person as a person not as a certian religion (if that makes any sense :D)

Why would I care if an idiot on the internet respects me, especially on this forum? Why would anyone?

Well, just because you don't understand what I wrote, doesn't mean I was accusing you of lying. That said, I do not think you are an athiest, like most people who claim to be, as you and they seem to reject all aspects of religion, not just theism. (As you will subsequently say...)
I just really hate religion overall because to me religion gives you a way of judging people and basing that person on their religion....I personally want to judge somebody on how they act as a person and how respectful they are to other and how they treat others around them....I don't want to condemn someone for believing differently then me...I want to look at a person and think of that person as a person not as a certian religion

Then don't. You don't have to hate religion in order to not judge people without using it as a criteria for judgement. Do you hate that people are left-handed, or Asian, because you don't want to judge people on those things?

Isn't that really judging them on those things, that you hate it about them so much, you hate the thing itself? If you cannot get past someones religion, so you have to hate religion.
Dro wrote:Don't take everything so literally, because that's where stupid disagreements occur over miniscule details.

But, but, but, but...that's what they want...to discredit what you believe to prove their superiority! You wouldn't accept it when they simply told you your religion was dumb, you made them have to prove it to you!

Tue Jan 08, 2008 4:11 pm

Alright...fine everyone make me feel dumb with your big words, lol...I don't want to argue and sure i probably misunderstood you and I do want to apologize for getting angry, but at my age of 17 I simply do not believe in life after death, a high power, and anything having to do with it...Whatver that makes me, then there it is...Which I think is Athiest. :D

Tue Jan 08, 2008 4:19 pm

An Athiest simply does not believe in a divinity/diety/god/etc. a rejection of religious belief systems altogether is seperate. You're simply irreligious. And likely strongly secular humanist.

Of course, all such labels are irrelevant, and are simply to place yourself into groups of like others, instead of being an individual.

Tue Jan 08, 2008 4:21 pm

well I will just call myself an individual then, lol...I mean I don't really need to be in a group...for some reason this thread i think might have helped me more than the original poster...Shibby

Tue Jan 08, 2008 4:30 pm

Not to sound paranoid or anything but there's something about ALFA's inability to properly capitalize letters that reminds me of a former poster, I just can't remember who.

God doesn't force you to do the things you do, He knows the infinite choices/options that you can make/do. Which choice you follow is up to you, hence free will.

Why be an individual when you can be a person? Nah, let's not. Discussing philosophy is no fun.

I found a good quote that best replies to your rants trigger42:
From Billy Madison wrote:what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Thanks to Dro for reminding us of Billy Madison.

I just got pounded  also I wasn't trying to talk smack. just thought i would clear that up...and right now I think I should stop talking because i seem to be diggin my self a deeper whole, the more I talk the more people who stick it to me...sheeeeeet. :|

Here is a pretty good quote from Billy Madison that resembles me in a great way, "If peeing your pants is cool, than I'm Boobie Miles." (Or something along those lines"

There's actually a difference between non-religious people and anti-religious people?

Well, that explains a lot. I probably shouldn't bother you, since you're busy preparing food (*reference to post).

Not to sound paranoid or anything but there's something about ALFA's inability to properly capitalize letters that reminds me of a former poster, I just can't remember who.

Yeah. For some reason, so do I. It's just that it reminds me of a whole bunch of members who can't capitalize or make use of that little button next to the "Enter". At least atheistislookingforanswers puts spaces after punctuation.

Tue Jan 08, 2008 4:53 pm

JT_55 wrote:There's actually a difference between non-religious people and anti-religious people?

Yes.
Non-religious people do not believe in a religion/god (an atheist) so they don't care if there is one or not nor can they be bothered about discussing something that doesn't exist when it's a waste of time really.
Anti-religious people however keep telling/discussing/arguing to others that there is no god. They need others' belief in the presence of a god/religion to legitimate their belief that there is no god to prove themselves right and the religious others wrong. They won't stop until they convince others that "there is no god" and are affected/angered by those who have a religion or belief in a god.

What is that supposed to mean? You didn't even deliver the quote properly. You just proved the point of my Billy Madison quote.

I didn't know the dynasty section is a completely different world as compared to the rest of the forums.
If it makes you feel good Lamrock, you're getting "normal" imo. Hang in there, keep up the fight.

It's Miles Davis you son of a bitch. Boobie Miles is from Friday Night Lights (the movie). :P

On a side note, I am planning on majoring in philosophy.
