Clutch, Hey man! Nice dynasty you got here. The gif highlights are a splendid idea.

And I actually laughed reading Artest's comments. As I just watched the video of that old Pacers-Pistons brawl yesterday.

Good luck with this!

Homi - yeah but i'm sure that KMart will 'grow' into the position given time and eventually start; unfortunately this was before he was rated as an impact player, much like D-Will for my Rockets; the potential is there though and the challenge to train him is fun;

Lamrock - no worries man! people get busy sometimes and some recaps are more interesting than others (just like real life games really); but thx for the occasional commenting now and again;

JTF - yeah that is only a 69% clip from the line; sad but we'll take it; and thx for the floor compliments - it's a 'custom' i did a while back and finally someone noticed it! :lol: it used to be the PHO Suns arena; about the crowd? you know i'm not sure; unfortunately i play on a laptop with a crappy vid card so i have to tweak down basically all the graphic settings; but the 'Street Fighter' look has a certain charm and has grown on me;

Space - thx man; i figured Artest would be the man to say something if dealt such a lopsided game; but in his defense, i probably would've gone into the stands and smacked that fan silly too for hitting me with a water bottle;

JMS - merci GM! :) our boys are doing fine so far and movin' like a well oiled machine; D-Will's got a ways to go before he starts dominating (like his 'realworld' counterpart), he has show glimpses but is still rough around the edges; after reviewing the tape ("Clutch PotD"), I think Miller should've been ejected on a Flagrant 2 foul and should suspended at least a game. I'll file a petition with Commissioner Stern immediately ;)

Thanks again all; Baron and the Warriors coming soon...

GAME SUMMARY

For the third time in as many games, Tracy McGrady dropped 30+ points and lifted the Houston Rockets to their 6th consecutive win, 101-94 versus the visiting Golden State Warriors.

McGrady's latest heroics included a sizzling 14-for-17 performance from the free-throw line, a result of his relentless onslaught against Golden State's interior defense, much like he did in yesterday's match versus Sacramento. "Stephen Jackson's their best defender so I made sure to keep him on his heels most the time," said McGrady. "I figured if Jax was busy guarding and fouling me, he'd be too tired to score. Plus, I've just been in a good offensive zone lately; when I'm in that zone, there's not too many people who can do anything about it." McGrady finished the night with 31 points, 5 boards and 2 assists while Jackson ended with 8 points, 4 boards and 5 assists.

As a collective, the Rockets responded to McGrady's example and mimicked what had been so effective in last night's game against the Kings -- getting to the free-throw line -- where they shot a mediocre 69%; but tonight, Houston shot a rock-solid 91% clip from the charity stripe, managing to connect on 29-of-32 attempts, while Golden State capitalized on 13-of-21 attempts from the line.

Yao Ming and Marvin Williams still nursed injuries and played in limited minutes but greatly benefited from strong bench support. Dikembe Mutombo, Sean May and Anthony Sato combined for 14 rebounds off the bench and provided Williams and Ming with much needed rest.

Golden State ran into trouble in the second quarter where a scoring drought coupled with a Rockets' offensive surge allowed Houston to carry a 10 point lead into halftime; a lead which ultimately the Warriors would never overcome. Baron Davis led Golden State with 20 points, 4 assists and a steal in the loss while the Warriors' 9th overall pick, rookie shooting guard, Guy Janson, had a nice game off the bench with 13 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists in 18 minutes of play.

NOTES
    As a team, the Rockets controlled the boards, out rebounding Golden State 42-33;

    Guard, Mike James, continued to fester in the Phil Jackson doghouse, receiving his 3rd 'DNP' in as many games;

    The Rockets next face the new-look Charlotte Bobcats featuring recent trade acquisitions, Chris Kaman and Corey Maggette

Wow, a team that is built for offense, and stacked like the Warriors is 25th in offense? What is their record? EA always seems to have the Warriors perform extremely poorly in their games though. In my Sonics dynasty, they are 2-14 so far. :P

Still going strong. It is very admirable that this is still going. Keep it up!

YAY! I'm impressed...
So, Phil Jackson won't budge on Mike James' case... He must know what he is doing; has the rings to prove it. Good thing Yao got to rest.

Lamrock - thx and yeah go figure about the Dubs; they're currently 5 games below .500 at 25-30 but they way they are playing in real life, I'm sure EA rates them much higher in the next Live;

JMS - you mean TMAC's the man! i'm just a mild-mannered sports reporter :wink: but yeah, zen master Phil definitely knows his chess pieces and when to be tough; he can't be letting bench guys cop an attitude!

WILLIE CHOW'S SCOUTING REPORT - CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

    The Bobcats leader in offensive rebounds is Emeka Okafor with 3.6 a game;

    Charlotte is ranked 28th in Free Throw percentage;

    Charlotte is 1st in the league in swats per game.Their top shot blocker is Emeka Okafor who averages 2.25 per contest;

    Charlotte is ranked 16th in fouls;

    Emeka Okafor is the strongest player on the Bobcats;

    The Bobcats are currently 4th in their division;

    Raymond Felton can be lethal on the drive as his quick first step helps him blow by his defender

GAME RECAP

LET'S GET PHYSICAL!

Both teams looked to establish inside superiority early; unfortunately things got a little too physical for Houston's, Tracy McGrady. With neither team able to score on their first few possessions, McGrady elected to attack the basket which had been a successful tactic in his two recent matches versus the Kings and Warriors; but this time, McGrady was met by stiff opposition in the form of the league's leading shot blocker, Emeka Okafor. A tremendous and jarring block sent McGrady grabbing for his wrist in pain and to the bench for the remainder of the 1st quarter.

Image

With McGrady sidelined, the Rockets picked up their defense tremendously and soon Okafor found himself sidelined after an awkward landing fighting for a rebound against Yao Ming; with tempers flaring and things getting chippy, Bobcat's point guard, Raymond Felton, tweaked his back only moments later after a hard foul by, Deron Williams, who was in turn shoved by center, Chris Kaman, in Felton's defense. Both Williams and Kaman received technicals in an attempt to get the heated contest back under control.

Image
Image

A BAD DECISION?

Against his better judgement, head coach Phil Jackson elected to play McGrady, who insisted on playing midway through the 2nd quarter; McGrady continued to score and help the team but also seemed to wince in pain everytime he handled the ball. Sensing the injury, the Bobcats continued with tough, physical defense everytime the Rocket's star swingman touched the rock.

Image

Luckily for Houston, Yao began to exert himself offensively and gave the Rockets a 5 point cushion going into halftime. But that lead would all but vanish in the second half as Charlotte's brutish front line wore Yao down and brought the 'Cats within striking range with the game winding down to the final minutes.

Image

LATE GAME HEROICS

With 16.9 seconds left in the 4th and the Rockets holding to a slim 90-89 lead, Okafor appeared to make a costly mistake by fouling Marvin Williams after being baited to jump early on a nice pump fake; Williams calmly buried both free throws giving Houston a 92-89 lead and what appeared to be possible victory.

Image

After quick timeout, however, Raymond Felton rose to the occasion. Able to lose his defender in a switch mix up, Felton pulled up for the shot attempt and smoothly stroked a long trey, leaving 12 seconds remaining and the score knotted 92-92 (see, "Clutch Play of the Day" below ). Stunned, the Rockets were unable to convert on their final possession in regulation and the game was forced into overtime.

ROCKETS BATTEN DOWN IN OT

D-Will would foul out in the extra period, but not after his 4 quick points and an assist gave the Rockets an early 6 point edge. The Bobcats offense seemed spent and deflated in the extra period so Yao Ming finished them off scoring Houston's last 8 points, altering shot attempts and gathering crucial defensive rebounds down the stretch to seal the win.

Image
Image

"A tough one tonight," said Ming following the contest. "We're pretty banged up as it is and Tracy took a hard hit early on. He's being examined right now but seemed in good spirits; I think he'll be alright."

Yao finished the night with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists while McGrady, despite injuring his wrist early in the contest, still managed to lead Houston in scoring with 24 points, adding 5 boards and 4 assists.

Raymond Felton lead Charlotte with a nice 18 point, 10 assist double-double night while Dajuan Wagner pumped in 21 points and added 2 boards and 3 assists.

NOTES

    The Rockets continue a blazing win streak with their 7th consecutive win;

    Houston did a terrific job controlling the glass out-rebounding Charlotte 46-33 and again reached the free-throw line consistently nailing 26-of-30 attempts to the Bobcats' 11-of-18 from the line;

    The Rockets will go for 8 straight versus the Memphis Grizzlies as Mike Miller and Pau Gasol come to town tomorrow night

Now THIS is what I'm talking about. This might be your best recap yet since it has: Your template, all your pics in the post, and the CLutch play of the day. Perfect! What made you change your mind? I thoghut you didn't want the CPOTD with other images since you wanted to make sure it loaded it fast even for those w/o fast connections? Either way its great. Looking forward to more of this stuff.

Also why is the Bobcats the game of the week? They're record is pretty bad, surely your other opponents had better ones no? (side not, if you put the records of both teams before each game that'd be helpful) Or do you play out all the games at once, and then you decide which one was the most intense?

Still going brilliantly! Seven straight now, what position are you in the West as of now? A good push should get you a high seed to end the season, and a pretty nice home-court advantage.

The only thing I have a little issue with right now is that some of the animated GIFs look a bit slow, and perhaps a quicker transition like some of the other .GIFs may helps it look a little smoother. Of course, the number of frames taken may be an issue. This .GIF I made with Live 2003 took 23 screenshots to make:

Flash - thx for reading/commenting man

JMS - qui... moi? :)

Chaser - Thx man but I don't plan to use this format every recap as I'd like to try keep pages "load-friendly" like I mentioned earlier; but I also wanted to start experimenting a little with different layouts in anticipation of the Playoffs as my squad is looking in good shape so far and should be a lock at least for that first round (hahah man, I'm sounding like T-Mac shooting my mouth off before the votes are in!)

as far as which game gets "GotW" honors? It really depends; just like in real life, some games are more memorable/exciting than others; some weeks have several good games and sometimes I end up doing in-depth recaps for many games; those are pretty heavy weeks for me; then other times there's no real "stand out" game and none get a deep recap because I don't just want to fish for stuff trying to make it seem more than it is; I do play a few games ahead of the posted recap and some games I know tend to get more coverage, for instance: overtime games, whenever players get hurt, or if it's just a really exciting game down to the wire

On average I'm about 1-2 ahead of the recaps; but sometimes if I get slack, they back up; if I start reaching games for the next week on schedule, that's my cue to stop playing and start recapping ;)

Lamrock - how long? About 5-10 mins… lol j/k. Actually I dunno; a few hours probably but I usually don't do it all in one sitting; I knew this one was a 'heavier' recap so I took it in chunks for different periods of time during the week; and Wagner? I considered trading for him during that big 5-team trade that went down in early Feb but since I'd just recently traded for Mike James, Wagner just never fit; maybe next season…

JTF - hey thx man and here's a breakdown of the East/West standings thus far (below); I'll actually incorporate this into the Weekly Recaps from now on since it's down the final 2 months and the Playoff race is officially on!

That AI/Tmac .gif is smooth but yeah, 1) more frames = more work; 2) more frames = bigger file = higher load time which I'm trying to steer clear of; I could do the "CPotD" in the form of a hyperlink but it's somehow not as cool as seeing even the slow/chunkified .gifs

Anyway, thanks for reading folks; Rockets' battle with the Grizzlies coming soon…

CURRENT SEASON STANDINGS

Image

As you can see, I'm kinda hosed being in the middle of the pack; seems like that first round will be facing a juggernaut - I do NOT wanna face the Spurs; PHO are 2-time defending Champs; i think we won 1-of-4 versus Dallas this season... meanwhile Denver's on fire and the Hornets, with CP3, Michael Redd and Peja, are white hot and seem to be wiping the floor with everyone!

GAME RECAP

Without Tracy McGrady in the lineup, the Houston Rockets prevailed in a 108-100 victory over the visiting Memphis Grizzlies, relying on the inspired play of unsung veteran guard, Mike James.

McGrady, who injured his shooting wrist in yesterday's match against the Bobcats, sat on the bench in a nicely tailored Armani; meanwhile, in a tactical surprise, normal starting Shooting Guard, Joey Graham, shifted over to fill McGrady's position at Small Forward and veteran guard, Mike James, got the green light to start at the two spot.

James, who had warmed the bench for three consecutive 'DNPs' before finally making a brief 5 minute appearance last night versus Charlotte, appeared to be in coach Jackson's proverbial doghouse due to recent criticisms James made publicly questioning the head coach's substitution decisions and distribution of playing time. Tonight, Jackson put all differences aside, took the muzzle off James and let him go to work; MJ would not disappoint.

James lead a spirited and high-octane attack, tallying 16 point and giving the Rockets a 9 point advantage at the half; He would add another 10 after the break which included a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown at critical moments whenever Memphis looked to threaten the lead. His tremendous play ignited his teammates to play inspired team basketball, where they did an exceptional job controlling the glass and out-rebounded the Grizzlies 35-24.

In the closing seconds Memphis closed within 5 points; but James drove hard to the basket which fouled out the Grizzlies' hot scorer, Mike Miller. He followed with two clutch free throws that essentially sealed the Rockets victory

"Coach taught me a valuable lesson tonight," said James in the post-game. "We've got a deep squad and with Tracy hurt, coach could've kept me frozen on the bench for some dumb things I've said recently which were detrimental to the team; but he put that all behind and trusted in me to start. He's all about uniting our team and giving us the best chance to win every night; I understand that now and won't let anyone down, whether I play 3 minutes or 30 minutes."

Phil Jackson had some words on James' performance, "King James was something else tonight, hmm? (chuckle) But seriously, there's no room for a player's or coach's pride or ego to stand in the way of team basketball, especially at the NBA level. MJ's a professional, whether he's giving us a few minutes off the bench or giving us a big game like tonight. We know that whenever we need him, he'll be ready."

James finished the night with a team-high 26 points also contributing 3 assists and a steal for the Rockets while Miller lead the way for the Grizzlies also with 26 points and added 2 assists and 3 steals.

NOTES
    The scorching hot Rockets have won 8 consecutive matches and 14 of their last 15 games;

    Gilbert Arenas and company will try to cool off the Rockets as they visit MCI Center to face the Washington Wizards.

Dammit, Clutch! I hate how awesome your dynasty is. Every new thing you throw in I wanna steal for mine. :twisted: The pre-game report is a really great addition. It's the little things that make the difference, you know?

Nice win sans T-Mac.

One small request: could we get an update on Houston's player stats with the next monthly or weekly recap? I'm curious to see how your guys are doing statistically, and I'm talking everything from PPG to FG%. Just a thought.

Cheers, and keep up the good work.

I totally agree with the above poster, I really wanted to post here, but I didn't wanna bump an old topic, but since its already at the top, I hope Clutch is reading this and continues this. Although, his last post overall on the forums was more than a month ago, so unfortunately, I guess this is as good as over :(

Sorry for the extended hiatus folks but "real life" takes priority to "virtual dynasties" when all is said and done

Nevertheless, lately I've been itching to continue the Rockets saga and especially now, with "real life" Yao suffering yet another major setback, it's up to "virtual" Yao to pick up where he left off - on a quest for a Championship

But free time isn't what it used to be unfortunately, so expect much abbreviated recaps, maybe even just boxscores at times, with hopefully more in depth coverage towards the Playoffs

So without futher ado - Rockets v. Wizards - coming soon...

GAME RECAP

Gilbert Arenas led a spirited 19-4 run in the fourth quarter to force overtime and eventually a victory, snapping Houston's 8-game win streak in a Washington home win 125-120.

Houston led comfortably by 8 points going into the final period and seemed to be in the driver's seat; but "Agent Zero" quickly turned things around for the Wizards, reeling off 5 consecutive baskets, dishing 2 assists and helping to knot the game even at the end of regulation. Arenas would later foul out in overtime but with his team up 8, less than 2 minutes on the clock and Washington in full control. He finished with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Unfortunately for Houston, Agent Zero's heroics negated an otherwise phenomenal night by Yao Ming, who shot a blistering 15-of-16 from the field and 12-for-14 from the charity stripe. A juggernaut throughout the night, Yao finished with an incredible 42 points, 14 rebounds and one block. It would be Yao's second game this season to score 40+ points.

Next up, the Rockets will have the difficult task trying to of cool off the league's hottest team, the New Orleans Hornets. Led by point guard sensation, Chris Paul, the Hornets are currently riding a 13-game win streak and are owners of the league's best record of 40-16.

Notes:

Both teams combined for 56 fouls, a contest which saw 4 players foul of the game - Tracy McGrady is still listed as "day-to-day" nursing a sprained wrist - Marvin Williams suffered a jarring injury to the lower back in the 2nd quarter but returned after halftime to finish the game.
