Preseason Numbers (Rookies/Youngins/etc.)

I guess this could go into the Scouting thread but I did not think it was exactly the same. If a moderator does and wants to move it, I have no problem with that.

I will take suggestions for other players, but for this run I looked at guys who will be entering their third or earlier year. The PER is not entirely accurate as I did it quickly using league values instead of team values, so if you see like 13, it could probably be more like a range of 12-14. Also nothing is pace adjusted. This is just to take a gander at how these guys did in the preseason and who to look out for during the season.

Only guys who totaled over 50 preseason minutes were included.

Screw waiting for the edit, I'll post my comments.

(Even though it's based on preseason..)
I knew it, Al Horford is a stud and Acie Law is a bust.

Kind of disappointed with Rondo.

I didn't expect Felton's PER to be similar to Fabio's. Jermareo Davidson's PER :o

Nothing surprising with the Bulls players except for Aaron Gray, holy cow!

Shawne Williams had a pretty good pre-season. He's a guy to keep your eye on depending on how much he sees the floor. He's looked like a perfect fit for OB's system.

Yeah i think he led the pacers in scoring in his last two games. Pacers scored 140 in the last game i believe.

Indeed we did hit the 140 mark. We had 81 at halftime.

This is going to be a high octane offense that scores a lot of points. That's what confuses me so much about so many people thinking the Pacers aren't a playoff team. We were last in the league offensively last year because of Rick Carlisles system, yet we still almost made the playoffs. Now our offense is going to be in the top 10 and people think the team is going to get worse? :wall:

I tihnk Al Horford has the best chance to win ROY right now. He's got one of the best per 40 numbers and he'll get the most minutes to live up to those per 40 numbers.

That got me intrigued. I like to see a comparison of Gerald Wallace's best PER against Kirilenko's best PER in a season. Maybe we can project who was/is/will be better.

I think the Pacers are overlooked because:

A) All the moves in the East

B) Eastern teams getting better

C) Missing playoffs last year

D) Losing their coach, who is regarded as pretty good around the league

E) Very quiet offseason

I mean Detroit, Chicago, Boston, Toronto, New Jersey, Cleveland, Miami and New Jersey are all probably gonna be in the playoffs. That leaves no spots for anyone else. Miami and NJ could miss the playoffs - but who would fill in? There's Orlando who look pretty good and made the playoffs last year. There's Milwuakee who have a great roster but were hampered by injuries last season. There's New York who's made big moves (not that I think they'll make th playoffs, because I don't - but I'm just one person), then there's your Pacers. The Hawks are on the rise. The Sixers were good without AI. Charlotte finally got a go to scorer, although they lost Morrison.

The East may not be as good as the West, but I think it's far more competitive from top to bottom.

Not only missing the playoffs last year, but they went on a 12 (10?) game losing streak toward the end of the season. Plus, Bumleavy is still on the roster - that's never a good sign. And then you've the blockbuster off-season additions of...Travis Diener! Kareem Rush! Stephen Fucking Graham! Yeah!

Also, how much will their defense suffer due to the emphasis on offense? And finally, as I've said many times, you're getting no more than 65 games from both Tinsley and O'Neal.

The Pacers suck. It would not surprise me to see them finish dead last in East. Talk all you want about the system, you still need quality players, and the Pacers have very few.

We just played a pretty pathetic game against Washington without Jermaine and still beat them. This team could win 50 games. I'm not going to argue with you back and forth, because the season is upon us. I just wonder how far in to the season we will have to get before you admit you were wrong.

Oh and if you think we are going to suffer defensively, then you clearly know nothing about Jim O'Briens staff and what they are all about. Dick Harter is the best defensive coach in the NBA and has always had his teams in the top 5 in opposing teams field goal percentage. We are still working out the kinks, but still held Washington to under 40% shooting without our best defensive player.

TheMC, let's make some sort of bet on the Pacers. If Indiana finishes dead last in the East I will end every single post with some sort of praise for you and your genius, one paragraph every time. If the Pacers make the playoffs, then you come up with what you do.

Bumleavy's stats after the season opener.

25 pts.
4 asts.
12 rebs. (1 off., 11 def.)
.600 3P% (3-5 shooting)
1 TO and 1 PF

I know it was an overtime win and he shot a miserable .412 from the field with 7-17 shooting. But still, that's something for Bumleavy.

That's a pretty one-sided wager. Statistically, there is a better that 50% chance the Pacers make the playoffs, but only a 1 in 15 chance of them finishing last. Come up with a fairer wager, and then I'll consider it. I'm not saying I'm convinced they'll finish dead last, just that it wouldn't surprise me. Realistically, I expect them finish anywhere from 9th-12th, as I do think they are certainly better than Philly, Atlanta, and Charlotte, but pretty much right on par with Milwaukee, Orlando, and Washington (who have benefited from playing in a crappy division the last few years).

As for beating Washington: You realize it's Washington, right? The Wiz are completely inept defensively. And it'll probably take 20 games before I'd reconsider my stance on the Pacers, depending on what their record is. I'm certainly not doing it based on pre-season and 1 regular season game against a shitty defensive team. How many games will it take before you'd do the same?

As it stands now, I am far from convinced that Indiana will be any good.

I thought I was teaching you better. 7/17 might be 41.2%, but three of those makes were threes! They were worth an entire point more, so 8.5/17 or 50%.

And a 58.4% TS.

That's lashings for you tonight!

^^ Forgot to take into account the shot 3P.
I always have a notion of Dunleavy as a shooter, so everytime I see a shooting percentage that's not very 'shooter' like or below 42%, my mind usually considers it as bad shooting, add to that my separate consideration of 3P shots. Damn fantasy ball.

Dunleavy looked good in another win tonight. I can't wait to see what this team does with Shawne Williams playing and Jermaine at full strength.

We are going to be the freshest team in the NBA and really get going in the last couple months of the year because we use a 12-13 man rotation, and its going to stay that way. If we keep picking up while still learning that is really going to pay off in the standings when things start clicking on all cylinders.
