I think it would be better if people gave their reasons for recommending their music (except for Jugs, we all know Soulja Boy is just soooooooo cool). That way we can find out more about everyone's musical tastes and get more of a discussion going on rather than sort of a "spam it up" kind of thread.

The new Atreyu album kicks ass on many levels. I guess it depends what music people are into to start with, but if it's Bullet For My Valentine, In Flames, alexisonfire etc then Lead Sails Paper Anchor would work for them. Recommended songs: Doomsday, Blow, Can't Happen Here.

Ahhh Alexisonfire. Probably one of the few mainstream bands (at least in Canada) that I like, although I'm scared I'll get called an emo if I get caught listening to their music. I really like their transitions from one vocalist to another, an interesting band to listen to.

Bought a couple of 'new' cds the other day: Albert Hammond Jnr's (aka guitarist from the Strokes) "Yours To Keep" and Whiskeytown's "Strangers Almanac". Both quality albums. The first is very 'New York' and Stroke-sy, but more mellow. Shows a fair bit of diversity. Nice and catchy. Was very impressed to be honest. The Whiskeytown album is their second from the late 1990's. Not as much country influence as their debut, but their are overtones their. Some real cracking songs and heartfelt lyrics. Really see Ryan Adams develop both lyrically and musically. Songs like 16 Days have classic written all over them and show his ability to write Alt-Country rock songs that can please the die-hards and crack the mainstream music charts.

Other bands/songs I have been listening to of late:

Gary Numan - Cars (Coolest song from the 80)
Graham Coxon - Bittersweet Bundle of Misery (Essentially a Blur album by their former guitarist, but better than anything Blur has released in ages)
Stereophonics - JEEP (Alcohol, disillusionment and welsh people make a cracking album about LA, Las Vegas, Growing Up, and the media)
Travis - 12 Memories (The Coldplay before they existed, except meatier and better IMHO. Their second last album is pretty cool. Bit of anger, some beautiful melodies, classic tunes from the Scottish quartet)

Their first album was brilliant, then they just gave in to what was expected from them from their label. Good for them if they sell shit loads of CDs now, but they certainly lost most of their initial fanbase in the process. I saw them a couple of times live and I wish I hadn't...

I guess I'd have the same comment for them. I still listen to their first album every once in a while, but their next efforts were really weak IMO...

Ritual Of Battle is the more complete album out of the two but Torture Papers has more standout tracks (especially "Into The Arms Of Angels" and "All Shall Perish"), that's why I prefer that one.





Most underrated rap album of all times and probably one of the greatest too.

Usually when the people who post videos on their MySpaces turn against a band it's a good sign.

It's certaintly not amazing, or even great or anything. But I listened all the way through.

On another note, I was disappointed by "The Running Free" from Coheed's soon to be leaked album. But the latest track, "The Hound (Of Blood and Rank)" (Search your favorite "online store" for it), to come out has won me back. They posted another track on MySpace in retailiation, but I don't remember it at all now. I found this quote on Wikipedia to be comical:

On July 30, 2007, MTV released an article on the future plans for the band. The article stated that the [new Coheed] album is expected to be more experimental

Independent of the songs themselves, I do think Claudio is sounding better with each album however.

His voice is powerful, no doubt about that. It's too powerful that it drowns out the song. I usually have no trouble with vocalists going for high notes as long as it blends with the instrumentals, like the voice becomes another instrument in itself that mixes unnoticeably with the song.

Helmet-Unsung: The Best of Helmet 1991-1997





I reccomend Helmet to anyone who loves awesome guitar riffs and a sort of grinding type of music. I don't like Helmet enough to listen to their complete discography so a "best of" collection is great for me.

Gundy, kudos on the Helmet recommendation. Helmet are sweet. You (and anyone into Helmet-type stuff) should check out a band called To Live and Shave in LA (featuring Andrew WK, for anyone who that might interest, though the band bears little resemblance to Mr. WK's music).

Been listening to Stone Temple Pilots album Core alot over the last few days, and i now agree with whoever previously recommended the band.. Plush is probably the song im into most off the album
