PC Rumblepad2 - Change FSS type?

The PC instruction book says that the change the FSS type (say,from Highflyer to outside scorer) I hold down the FSS trigger (button 5) and hit buttons 1-4 to change the type. This does not work. After goofing around with it a lot, I find that if I hold down the FSS trigger and mash around my right analog stick, eventually, the FSS type will change. This is not at all practical for usage during the game.

Can somebody tell me what I am doing wrong? My controller options are default.
