Official Boston Celtics Thread

Wed May 23, 2007 11:12 am

Well Since we dont have one (that isnt locked), here it is, the Celtics Thread.

Let's start off with this. We aren't going to get Oden, we aren't going to get Durant. What the fuck are the Celtics going to do this off-season to become contenders in the East?

Wed May 23, 2007 11:18 am

tank next year and try again?

Wed May 23, 2007 11:25 am

I think you guys will take Yi. Ainge has been to China on several occasions to check him out. So that's my call.

Yeah but how many years of "tanking" can Paul Pierce suffer through?

I dunno, I really wanted to get one of those top 2 picks so we could really really improve without trading anybody. But now.....i dunno. Yi would be good for revenue (lotta azns in boston) and could fill the Center position because big Perk failed to really step up again.

Ima spend some more time on nbadraft.net and think of something. Maybe some of those Florida players would be good.

Wed May 23, 2007 11:41 am

Trade Pierce now and stock up for next years draft.

Wed May 23, 2007 11:43 am

i think that pierce will be traded. its my belief that he needs to be traded why he still has worth. they need to grab someone who is young and some future picks. get whatever they can for him cause he will not help the celtics anymore.

Wed May 23, 2007 11:47 am

How about Pierce, West and 2006 2nd for Mo Williams, the number 6 pick and Gadz?

Wed May 23, 2007 11:54 am

if that was offered i would take it. might be able to get a better for pierce and west but other teams will start offering less knwoing that pierce will soon want to be traded. so my opinion is yes, i take the deal

Wed May 23, 2007 11:57 am

I agree, no matter how it saddens me, that Pierce should be traded while he still has value. For his own good and the good of the Celtics.

Wed May 23, 2007 12:26 pm

You would think Boston or Memphis could have gotten in the top 3 they have like a 25% chance.... i still think the Celtics can be good, Brandan Wright or Al Horford will most likely be available plus Yi and Brewer etc. They will still get a good pick none the less but it wont be as good as it could of been.

Wed May 23, 2007 12:29 pm

its like the said on tv, we went from having a franchise player who can lead us to the future, to having a good draft pick who can help the celtics win a few games.

Wed May 23, 2007 12:45 pm

The problem is the Celtics are loaded with Al Horford type players already.

Wed May 23, 2007 2:09 pm

I say grab Yi ( most potential ) after Oden/Durant...
trade Pierce, why west? Delonte is still young..

with Yi and no Pierce... Celtics will be the same team this year, (aka good chance with the lottery )..

Develop Green, make Jefferson the go-to guy, 1 year of development as the main man and the pressure this and next summer.. shud make him a legit 22/10 guy...

Play Yi like they play Bargani (20-30 mins) a game, develop him for 2 years.. He will prob turn out decent...

For Pierce, get a lottery pick and a promising young guy..

Then in 2-3 years you will have all-star Jefferson, developed Green, up and coming Yi, a few more guys at their prime (Delonte, Rondo, Perkins) and possibility another good young player ( from pierce draft ) and a few more good picks from next years' draft...

I mean if they take Pierce and i don't know, get Brewer or Yi or whoever.. and plays well with Jefferson, Delonte, Rondo doing better.. Celtics might win like 40 games and screw up their chance with next year's lottery..

Wed May 23, 2007 2:20 pm

I know with a lottery pick you're not suppose to pick for need, but drafting Yi won't fill their need for centre IMHO. His game is more like Garnett from the reports I've heard and read, so a PF/SF instead of a PF/C. Looks very fluid with his movements, even more fluid than Bargnani I think.

Wed May 23, 2007 2:30 pm

Luckily for the Celtics, they're so bad that they can essentially pick any position with the exception of PF and drastically improve. Rondo is an energy player, but wont be anything until he can get a jumpshot. Wally is garbage. Delonte West has no exceptional qualities. Ryan Gomes is a tweener who should be a bench player and not a starter.

Al Jefferson and Gerald Green are the only two keepers that I see. Everyone else is mediocre at best.

Hopefully they can get rid of some of the trash at the end of their bench, namely Theo Ratliff, Scalabrine, and the Kandi Man.

Wed May 23, 2007 2:31 pm

With Boston not netting a top 2 pick, and the Pacers not getting lucky I think the Jermaine to Boston talks have probably already begun. Let's see what happens.

Wed May 23, 2007 2:41 pm

I'm not a Celtics fan, but I don't root against them, either. My opinion is that they are looking for something that works as quickly as possible. They have been making many moves in the past few years trading away guys like Antoine Walker, Gary Payton, and Ricky Davis. I think they should stick with their main backbone(s) and build around it.

Wed May 23, 2007 10:06 pm

Try telling that to Ainge. It's like he has no plans to improve Boston but through the lottery.

"Tank you, tank you very much" :lame: :)

i am kinda torn really with who i want them to pick. this will probably change but for now i want to see them draft yi. sure we need a center badly but how good are the other centers? i ask this seriously cause i dont know too much about them. i see on alot of top 10 lists roy hibbert. this guy is 7'2, is he any good? could he warrent a 5th pick?

Obviously, the Cetics aren't (and shouldn't) be satisfied with being a 42/42 team or somethin in that league - with their history they can only aim for greatness, and should try to rebuild untill they find a solution. I say draft Yi (because of his potential, I see him as a 20/8 1.5 block guy in the future, and trade Paul Pierce for some talent and future 1st round picks.

Thu May 24, 2007 12:54 am

good idea imo by hibbert to stay, maybe we can get him next year lol. so yeah i want yi.

Jermaine and Pierce on the same team? That's crazy

Thu May 24, 2007 4:19 am

Argh. I want them to pull some ridiculous trade like Pierce, two or three other players, and the #5 pick for Rashard Lewis and the #2 pick. No way would the Sonics do it, but I'm desperate right now.

Thu May 24, 2007 4:47 am

Pritchard said the #1 isn't tradeable and Sonics are viewing Durant as a big chip to keeping the team in Seattle.

Draftexpress has already taken Hibbert off their prediction board. They've got Boston taking Noah.

Thu May 24, 2007 5:00 am

if boston takes noah i will just stop watching basketball forever.
