Good stuff Shannon (Y) . As Nick mentioned ,good to see a name that doesn't start with "lebrondaman2324/7" or something in that direction.

I'm going against the grain on this one, in deference to the original BigKaboom, wherever he/she may be, who took that screen name on AIM before I did about 11 years ago.

How in the world did he get that nickname? Does he give people two-handed overhand blows to the head from time to time?

Same here. Shane Heal is not the type of player I imagine to have a nickname of Hammer.

To be fair, they are only a one-hit wonder. Though they did produce probably one of the best one-hit wonder song of the last two decades.

I just searched Blind Melon and saw "No Rain", I remember that song very well but I don't remember ever knowing who sings it.

How in the world did he get that nickname? Does he give people two-handed overhand blows to the head from time to time?

No idea. He looks like a gay stripper to me with that bleach blonde hair.

"No Rain" was Blind Melon's one-hit wonder. Then Shannon Hoon collaborated with Guns N' Roses for "Don't You Cry Tonight". Then he faded into oblivion

I just saw this and wanted to reply:

Actually, I think they did more than that. In fact, they contributed to the Grunge scene in the early-mid 90's along with bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam: by doing so, they changed the face of rock music, totally eliminating glam metal, that dominated the rock scene for over a decade, and influenced the way rock music developed in the late 90's-early 00's.
Concluding, Blind Melon isn't as popular and well-known as Nirvana or Pearl Jam but their contribute to the rock scene in the 90's should be recognized in an equal way.

To follow-up what Joe said, Blind Melon then is like what Talib Kweli or Mos Def today for rap fans. They might not be popular for the average pop-rap fans, but they are well-known with the knowledgeable fans.

There's also this band that was up to par with Pearl Jam or Nirvana during the early stages of Grunge. The band's name has the word "Bone" in it, can't remember the name completely.

EDIT: So some of their members were the founders of Pearl Jam, interesting.

Mother Love Bone is the follow-up band of Green River. It's practically the same only more developed music: Green River was one of the first if not the first Grunge band ever, so their music was somewhat experimental IMO; Mother Love Bone is the same music only more developed (Thanks to other bands that were active during the late 80's too.)
They disbanded in 1990 and two of their members formed Pearl Jam.
So it's impossible that Mother Love Bone "was up to par with Pearl Jam in the early stages of Grunge" because Mother Love Bone disbanded the same time Pearl Jam was formed. :P

Plus they were well on their way to being quite big before Shannon Hoon's daughter was born, then he OD'd shortly after. Great, great band who had a few hits especially in the US college charts.

I've got their remastered greatest hits album. Best songs are Mouthful of Cavities, Galaxy, Soul One, Three is a Magic Number and Change. On Soul One he is singing about the birth of his daughter and his wife. The vocals are eerily scary, like a message from the grave. He recorded the vocals just before he died, and they finish the track after his death.

Michael Jordan would be up to par to Jerry West even though they never played against each other.
