Wiltord & Juninho defeat Auxerre
Houllier's side captures 5th Trophèe des Champions

In his debut as Olympique Lyonnais manager, Gérard Houllier celebrated his first title in a dramatic victory. Juninho Pernambucano scored a superb free kick to secure the win in the Trophèe des Champions final.

The game seemed destined to go to extra time, before the Brazilian smashed home an incredible free kick.

Jacques Santini's side were driven on by Benoit Pedretti and Lionel Mathis from midfield while Ireneusz Jelen worked tirelessly upfront.

After 11 minutes, Mathis found Jean-Sebastien Jaures on the left flank and he made good ground, before sending a perfectly weighted low cross into the path of Kanga Akale, who slid the ball past Gregory Coupet.

Lyon looked dangerous when they ventured forward, and Auxerre keeper Fabien Cool needed two attempts to halt a low effort from Florent Malouda.

Houllier's side had plenty of width to their game, and after 31 minutes, they deservedly got back on level terms through Sylvain Wiltord, who received a perfect pass from Sidney Govou.

Mathis won a yellow card in the 37th minute after a strong challenge over Kim Källström.

In the 41st minute, Auxerre were back up front when Jelen shot home a pass by Pedretti.

Lyon started the second period full of purpose and Wiltord came close to snatching an equaliser after a pass by Malouda.

In the 54th minute, Wiltord, again, drilled a left-footed shot into the roof of the net, pass by Fred, to level up terms again.

Mathis had a chance to put Auxerre up front for the 3rd time in the 57th minute, but Coupet saved the shot.

One minute after that action, Daniel Niculae headed to the bench to make a spot for Ludovic Genest.

Finally, in the 77th minute, Malouda almost gets injured, in a foul by Jaures. Juninho put the ball in the floor, and sent the ball to Cool's right angle, to break Auxerre's hearts.

The Video was awesome dude, only suggestion I have is when there is a key event like a Goal etc you should make the minute flash up, like just before the video shows the free kick by Juniho make "'77" flash up (Y)

Keep it up dude (Y)

LYON, August 13 (Ligue 1) - Two goals in the final fifteen minutes gave the scoreline an emphatic feel, but Olympique Lyonnais did not have it all their own way against RC Lens on Saturday afternoon.

Alou Diarra and Sylvain Wiltord scored in the 75th and 90th minutes to secure all three points for Les Gones, who started the tournament in style.

Fred had put the hosts ahead on in the 30th minute, but Daniel Cousin equalised for Lens on the hour mark.

Lens had the first clear opening of the game when Cris' clearance from a free-kick fell to Cousin, although his shot was not powerful enough to trouble Gregory Coupet.

Fred was then inches away from opening the scoring for Lyon, but Charles Itandje saved it luckily.

Sidney Govou then struck a header, but the good save from Itandje fell for Fred, who forced another save from the Lens keeper.

Lyon later took the lead thanks to the Brazilian.

Coupet had to make a save early in the second half to keep out Aruna Dindane's effort.

Lens equalised moments later, when Cousin found the net with a header.

Diarra, a second-half substitute for Florent Malouda, made an unstoppable shot to put Lyon ahead in the 75th minute and the victory was wrapped up when Wiltord shot in a pass from Govou.

Good shit man.
Good seeing my french boys Wiltord and Diarra playing well.
Keep this shit up man.
I'll be watching.

Keeper whiffed pretty hard on that free kick. :)
Nice win. I agree with the shorter video suggestion. Maybe my attention span is too short or the video is too low-res. I just end up waiting for the close-up replay.

LYON, August 20 (Ligue 1) - French champions Olympique Lyonnais were unable to sit in the league first place as Djibril Cissé scored twice for Olympique Marseille to deny the hosts at the Stade de Gerland.

The champions went into the match on the back of a 3-1 triumph last week against RC Lens.

But they soon found themselves behind on Sunday when Marseille striker Cissé scored in the 31th minute.

The hosts bounced back, though, and goals from Sylvain Wiltord and Kim Källström turned the match around.

But Marseille grabbed a second through Cissé, five minutes to full time, to keep them in touch.

Lyon started confidently and Sidney Govou fired against the post with a fine, curling effort after just six minutes.

The visitors survived that early scare and took the lead from their first attack of note.

Mamadou Niang burst into the area before crossing for Cissé.

Mickael Pagis then headed wide from close range as Marseille continued to press.

However, their momentum stalled 8 minutes after Cissé's goal, when Juninho Pernambucano sent a pass for Wiltord, to fire home between Cédric Carrasso's legs.

Lyon almost went 2-1 up four minutes later but Habib Beye cleared Wiltord's volley off the line.

Carrasso was later helpless, when Juninho broke free before playing in Källström, who tapped home to give the champions the lead.

Marseille refused to lie down, though, and Cissé broke into Gregory Coupet's area to convert from close range.

The stalemate means Marseille moves to ninth spot while Lyon goes down to eighth.

Truely I ain't really impressed with Fifa 07, but you make it look as much as possible (Y)

Thu Jan 25, 2007 9:49 am

Cisse with 2 goals, darn you should've contained him more, tie is still a solid result especially with a good team liek Marselle

Thu Jan 25, 2007 1:55 pm

Yeah since it was against a good team its not as tough a loss, keep up the good work, are you making any transfers in the future?

As in real life, Carew's for sale, I'm also trying to acquire Baros, but I don't have a free spot in the roster. Someone must leave the team...

Fri Jan 26, 2007 5:46 am

Yeah I always sell off a few players at the beggining, I never use my full squad...

Also I meant to say "tough draw" not "tough loss" in my previous post
