There are a few minor probs in the Franchise Mode, maybe some big ones, I don't really know coz I don't much attention to them.

But if you already haven't got Live 2003, you might as well wait for Live 2004.

The main complaint about Franchise Mode concerns free agency. Too often top free agents refuse to sign (or re-sign) for large deals, choosing to sign with a random CPU team for the minimum.

yeh that and too often top draft pickes come as seasoned pros with 98fg 88 inside 22 range etc.
its hard to find an all round player
and that bench players no mater how good they are dont ever avrage in double figures, thats only if u simulate.

plus another thing i noticed that the cpu generates monsters, u can get a guy in the second round who is 7'6 almost 300 pounds and is very very very wide body. prerry much can score 30 a game if ur playing

yeah...when my Jermaine O'neal wanted a big contract like 278,000 i didn't resign him...instead i wait until the season starts and sign him minimun for one year...so by the end of the franchise i like 8 rated 90 or higher players on my roster...

I was able to put together a team like that, just fooling around simulating a Franchise with the Clippers.

a little late for 2003 but in my latest franchise i made all players contracts 7 yrs long, so that only rookie and already unsigned free agents contracts expired. i also turned off trades and made all the roster changes with a db editor. it's a bit of work, but it was the most competitive franchise so far. orlando won a title as a 6th seed, which is the first time i saw that happen in a long time, and no team has won over 66 games through six seasons.

speaking of terrible franchise mode, i simulated the whole season with ea's default rosters and guess who won the mvp in their rookie season? caron butler  i like caron butler and hes a good player but ea just messed this up. and frank williams of the knicks was defensive player of the year. this is very poor franchise mode and i just hope live 2004 can improve

I've never seen that happen. Tim Duncan is usually a perennial MVP though.

I've never seen that either. Although Tim Duncan has won both the MVP and Most Improved Awards in the same season.

I've seen that one too. Hopefully Dstats and simulated performance are improved in Live 2004.

It's difficult to find a balanced way between realistic management functions and a fast sportgame, in my opinion. I'm from germany and I know how many options and possibilities can be found in sportgames (germans like to simulate  ). And I won't prefer features like training schedules, player motivation etc. But I would be happy about advanced trades (draft rights) and more realistic cpu-player-statistics (more playtime for good 6th-men).

The trade-system for itself is not that horrible to me. I know, that I can exploit it but I won't. I also know, that you can take a look into the next season to check out player progress and I know other cheats. But it's up to me to use them or to play a challenging franchise. And that's ok so far :)

PS: Payton and Malone showed, that it's not very unreal to sign for minimum salary at the start of a season, by the way ;) I know, in our franchise modus it will happen too often but it can happen. Success >>> $$$

A lot of people either didn't understand or didn't like the way three team trades were implemented in NBA Live 2001.

with the NLSC rosters, Duncan will always win the MVP (not that I have a problem with that ) but with default rosters, Caron Butler puts up some sick numbers in his rookie year, I think something around 30.7ppg and what not

Strange, as I haven't changed Duncan's Dstats in the NLSC roster (yet). I did modify Caron Butler's though.

I've had Iverson win it, as well as Webber, and Kobe.

has anyone tried the method i mentioned, if so what kind of results are you getting. the free agent issue still comes up when rookie contracts expire, but i now leave one roster space open, sign fa's rated from high to around 79,80, and trade them to teams that they will be starters on, unless that team has a rookie starting at that spot. still lots of work but the standings and playoff records are coming out nicely. only houston was over 60 wins with 66, the next was my sixers at 56 or 58, dont remember offhand.
