the great news about this is the rating system.

if the rating system works and it's influence is well implemented in-game it doesn't matter if the ratings are waaay off, like they are.

i prefer the ratings to be well implemented and deep and the players to be awfully rated (so everybody could re-rate every player to their liking) rather than having ratings that look good on paper but are not well implemented in-game (in which case ratings have to be faked, urealistically boosting star players attributes and lowering the averages players ones).

is this just for the 360 version? Is the current gen games going to have as many as it did last year?

Shane Battier gets a team work rating of 66? and Marbury gets 99?
it seems like all the PGs are getting really high teamwork rating. EA needs to either rename this rating or redifine it cause it is diffinetely not measuring the actual team work.

Some of you guys worry about overall ratings too much. I'll never get it.

Hopefully upon release, the game manual or something will define each rating.

I also hope that current gen got at least a few more ratings for us to tweak.

The ratings should be the same in each version, otherwise they had to develop 2 different games, in terms of gameplay and so on... They can't use 2 different sets of rating in the same engine, without a great deal of work put into coding.

About the ratings...I'm dissapointed that I'll have to edit ratings before actually play the game, these values are way to different than the real life....

well, that's pretty much what they did from what I understand
last year they started from scratch with the 360 version hence the half game they put out last year.

the next gen engine is different for the current gen one. both are supposedly 2 different games in terms of physics and engine.

i am not kind of blinded by the mass of settings.
i guess this should be one effect on users.
cause in 06 slider settings seemed to me not as influencing as it should.
i spent a lot of time switchin sliders and it took less effect.
in my opinion 07 is just one more mod on 05, just like 06:
other tracks, other menustyle, few more moves, some graphics anhancement, a little handling-change, slider-"manipulation"-feeling, etc.
this is not what i expext from a game-producer. this is imposture.

Well thanks to Dewaco we have a Top 29 of the players overall ratings:
http://www.nbaliveforums.com/ftopic41498.php

1. Lebron 97
2. Kobe 96
3. Wade 94
4. Garnett 93
5. McGrady 93
6. Iverson 93
7. Nash 91
8. Arenas 91
9. Dirk 90
10. Brand 90
11. Duncan 89
12 Shaq 89
13. Vince 89
14. Pierce 89
15. Marion 89
16. Amare 89
17. Kirilenko 89
18. Carmelo 87
19. Bosh 87
20. Artest 87
21. Jermaine 86
22. Manu 86
23. Pau 86
24. Allen 86
25. Kidd 85
26. Redd 85
27. Paul 85
28. Josh Howard 85
29. Richardson

As in Live 06 I don't think the overall ratings should be the main factor as they do not matter that much.

I pretty much agree with the overall ratings despite a few (e.g. Ray Allen, Josh Howard, Manu Ginobili...)

The new ratings are surely good for the further development of the game, but some of the ratings are way off for individual players.

LeBron James' Clutch Rating and Mid-Range Jumpers are too high compared to other players who really shine in these categories. But that's just my point of view. The only thing I'm really angry about is the teamwork rating (if it does mean what I think).

Pretty much overrated in this category are:
Allen Iverson - 99
Steve Francis - 98
Stephon Marbury - 99
Larry Hughes - 99
Earl Watson - 99
Kobe Bryant - 99
Jason Terry - 99
Mike James !!! - 99

Compared to guy's like Nash, Ridnour, Billups etc. these ratings are way off. It seems like every Star-Player got a teamwork rating from 90 - 99 and almost every PG has this high rating too.

That's pretty much the only thing I really disagree with and I'm already looking forward to Andrew's first roster patch.

just my 2 cents...

Rasheed Wallace team work 84 (N)
Hamilton layup in traffic 90 (Y)
Hamilton scoring with contact 81 (Y)
Billups clutch 71 (N)

but damn, all these ratings. Kickass

The new ratings are Next Gen only for those who are still wondering about that...which to be totally honest is kind of a relief as far as the roster updates are concerned because that's a lot to keep track of, but at the same time I'd love to be able to tweak a player's behaviour and abilities to that extent.

I don't get this... Where do you come off saying things like that??? You clearly have not been paying any attention to what's been going on the entire summer.

But on to other things... Darko is robbed by giving him a 63 rating... Guys like Melvin Ely and Bernard Robinson are rated better... Or have higher overalls... I know that Darko hasn't done much statistically, but you could tell from the end of last season and the way he played in the worlds that he should have at least 70 overall... That's how high Fortson is rated. And Fortson isn't that good... But, it and other people who are missing from the rosters will more than likely be added when they get around to it.

What comes to that teamwork or what ever that rating was called. It probably is more like executing the strategy or getting the ball to the best scorer or something like that rather than sharing the ball... It probably will determine that Kobe that has a high rating in that will try to get the ball to the best possible scoring position, but since he is the best possible scorer on his team at all times, he will still likely shoot it by himself a lot. Same goes for Francis and Marbury. They also will likely try to get the ball to its best possible scoring option and that on NYK is Marbury and Francis... The rating is called that due to most likely the fact that there is no better name for it.

No single rating will be dominant in the game and almost all functions done on the court will use multiple ratings to determine success or failure. So single rating is not that important and lots of the ratings are tendencies that mostly are related to how the AI works...

But that is all guessing... After following the games since 95, I can call it an educated guess.

Lebron James Defense - 93
Dwyane Wade Defense - 81

Kirk Hinrich Defense - 70
Chris Duhon Defense - 66

Lebron James and Dwyane Wade, defensive stalwarts , while Kirk Hinrich has troubles guarding his own shadow. EA doesn't know jack about NBA.

im surprised that LBJ is better than Kobe as far as OR. I mean, Kobe in real life is the better defender, rebounder, scorer, shooter and eats everyone up as far as clutch goes.

Thanks EA!

Postby Andre on Wed Sep 20, 2006 9:27 pm

I see a lot of people complaining about players'r rating. I just wanted to send a big THANK YOU to EA for deepening the rating system so much.

I don't care if some of them are wrong, we can always fix them as we wish.

It took a lot of effort by EA, so THANKS!

Yeah, Thanks EA for deepening the rating system only on Next-Gen. Thanks EA for delaying next Gen release.

the problem is, with all of these ratings, we won't know how changing similar ratings will affect players. I don't plan to edit much though.
