How to forbid a player to retire ?

Postby freeman034 on Mon May 08, 2006 8:52 am

Hi there everyone,
I finished my season, I won the title. Anyway, two of my best players decided to retire because they both got a 15-years career in the league... is there a way to forbid 'em to do that ?

Like... for example editing the players file and change the years experience ? I already made it but nothing changed though... I edited the one in My Documents... I don't know which one to edit, either the one in the game directory, or the one in the oldroster or currentroster from My Documents...

Somebody help me ? Thanks !

its an age thing, you can have a 40 year old rookie and he'll retire after 1 year. The oldest i've ever gotten somebody is 39 or 40. The best way to keep them is to have a contract at 35 and hope they dont retire (34 is a safer age, usually they resign at 34) and then sign them to as long a deal as possible.. So you have a 35 yr old free agent and then resign them to a 5 or 6 year deal. Usually they'll want a max of 3 years but if you REALLY jack up your offering price and offer them a ton of money they'll accept. I've had iverson play till he's 39 and he'd lost all his FSS abilities except playmaker and he was like 71 overall.

In the future, please don't post the same topic in multiple sections. Once in the correct place is sufficient. ;)

The only way would be to change their ages (the BIRTHDATE) field. More information on that column in players.dbf can be found here.

The file you need to edit is your Dynasty save itself. Make a backup before you change anything though, in case something goes wrong.

is there a good way to just convince an old player to keep playing? and is there a rule that determines how a player retires? i.e. 15 yrs or more in the league or an age of 35 or more or what?

It can happen at anytime over the age of 32, players with a good DESTINY attribute who are still rated fairly well tend to stick around longer as they have further to drop. Players also tend to stick around longer if your team is successful unless they're already in their late 30s.

If you save before going into the offseason, sim the first day to see who retires, and then go back and reload until your older star doesn't retire 8-) Sometimes Shaq will retire after year 1, for instance, so I would save before I go into the offseason. Reloading it can correct early retirement. If you try enough times, you can get a guy to play up till they are 43/44, the age Robert Parish was in 1997. I saw Lebron James retire in 2028 after 25 years in the league, he was 43 going on 44! This was actually without reloading. But I've done it to keep guys around an extra year when they are still good.

You can always do that, too. But PC users needn't place their trust in chance if they edit the BIRTHDATE info to get a player through the offseason and then change it back once the new season commences.

So if they are 40, What do you change to, 33? Cause if it's changed to like 25 they might improve even though they are actually 40. I'd want to see it kind of realistic but it is odd seeing your favorite one go.

Yes, I'd say for best results bump them back to around 30.

Yep you were right mate, I did what you said, I edited my dynasty save, I took their age back to a few year and indeed they both didn't retire, that's perfect.

Thanks again for your help !

No problem. :) Just a bit of extra advice about DBF editing a Dynasty save; in addition to making a backup, you might want to see if you can sim a few seasons from the save point to make sure nothing has been corrupted. (Y)

Nothing worse than making some changes, thinking everything's going smoothly and playing half the season before finding out there's a glitch.
