cant EA record Marve Albert pronounce each letter???

Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

cant EA record Marve Albert pronounce each letter???

Postby kingjames23 on Fri Apr 07, 2006 8:39 am

he could ennunciate each letter in the alphabet, hard and soft forms, and letter combinations? how long could this take?

that way we could create names for players on our own and EA wont get in trouble for using players names, like michael jordan and soforth?

when we do CAPS we could just assign a sound to the letter
just an idea

Its a good idea but it would take too long and the created player names would sound kinda retarded (off-pitch everywhere).

hey, that was my 100th post woohoo!!!!

anyways, i just thought it might work...

and the fact that you could make marve albert swear would be a bonus... it wouldnt sound retarted if he did each letter quickly and there was no space between the sounds

It's a good idea, but it wouldn't really work.

Text-to-speech would be great but I recall a discussion we had about it sometime ago. A forum member who has worked in the IT industry and specifically with text-to-speech recognition opined that the technology still isn't far enough advanced for such a feature to work as well as we'd like.

i think we'd be better off giving them a phone book and tell him to say every last name thats in there more than twice. then you've got a large bank of names to use that they would say, just like in Madden.

thats not a bad idea.... though my name would never be in there.... lol

What'd be funny is if you had some funky first name like Guido and then you had a norma last name like Walter and since the game couldnt do your first name, Marv would just be like, "Mr. Walter! what a shot!"

Agreed, name matching/assignment would be a more feasible solution.

It pissed me off that my last name wasn't in NBA 2k6 (Workman) but my middle name was (Boyd).

Probably matching...which suggests it's entirely feasible.

I liked what NBA 2k6 did with the names (as well as the other 2k6 games) and I think EA should do the same.

My last name (Morrison) will probly be in Live 07 woot!!! I doubt they will say it though. They use to say names that were already in the game like for created players why did they stop? It says my last name name in Madden 06.

The easiest way would be to record every name in the names.dbf twice. One time announcer style (like: "LeBroooooon" "Jaaaaaames"), and the other one in neutral style. It would be enough. Maybe something for future wishlists.
