Overcoming Lag

I was wondering if there were any programs in Win XP that contribute to lag. I see that when you pres ALT+DEL+CTRL and look in the Process tab there are lots of programs running. I'm wondering if by shutting any of them down if I can make the game have less lag. I turn down the graphics, have cable modem and the whole 9, and sometimes its still laggy. If anyone knows which processes I can or cant close please reply, thanks.

Can't help you well for XP though, i don't have it (98 4EVA, lol) but logically that makes sense. Just make sure you don't shut down any really important stuff. And of course make sure you have good drivers and a good video card or else nothing will work well. Good luck.
