Hey everyone! I'm still around! It's weird how you feel disconnected from the boards and it's only been a week! I've been king of mulling over some stuff...and was just curious on how people feel about the John Hollinger Player Efficiency Ratings that you see like on FoxSports.com or ESPN.com. Does anybody here place any weight on that?

The reason why I ask is that I'm contemplating on implementing it for Dynasty players but if everybody thinks of it as crap then I'd rather focus my energies elsewhere... your thoughts?

Anyway, Sonics are suckin' , Kobe gets 81, and the Clippers are above .500 almost at mid-season... what a crazy season so far!

Oh, yeh, I hate Online Live players that cherry-pick for 90% of the game...absolutely loathe them... if you're one of them, shame on you!

...from the Chronicles of the 2006 Birdie Project:(info)

Unholy Potato's LA Lakers 2005-06 end of season Birdie Breakdown:
Image
Kobe Kobe Kobe Kobe that's all we ever hear about lately...well in Potato's Dynasty it's no different as he leads his comrades and grabs Team MVP honors with aweighted Birdie efficiency score of 25.61 - and his 'reversible' LiveCard is now enabled.

Tapping into the top 20:
This Dynasty instance is currently ranked #12 on the Official 2006 Birdie Board

Image
(view entire list here)

The qualifers:
K. Bryant 26.7 ppg (ranks 4th)
B. Wallace 7.2 rpg (ranks 8th)
B. Wallace 0.97 spg (ranks 10th)
K. Bryant 0.451 field goal% (ranks 10th)
B. Wallace 2.86 bpg (ranks 2nd)
K. Bryant 3.7 apg (ranks 10th)

Complete 'Birdie Breakdown' coverage AND to see Bryant 's' reversible' Live Card clickhere.

Well I rarely see Unholy Potato on the boards so it may be a futile attempt to give him a direct shout-out...but this is more to say to everyone who contributed their stats...thanks so much and although I've been busy with my Software Development class and haven't been able to post on the boards as much as I would like, I'm always pleasantly surprised when somebody submits their pstats out of the blue so that's awesome!

I myself am getting obliterated during ONLINE play and so with every passing day, I get demolished either by Dallas or Houston...lately it's been the TimberWolves...I'm starting to really that perhaps I should revert back to Dynasty mode :P

:!: New leader of the Birdie Board 06! Congrats goes out to Anthony15 for taking the top slot as it appears we're heading toward the midpoint of the season! New updated top ten listed on the first post. It was about time I updated that as it's almost been a month!

 As some people have already seen, my participation on the NLSC boards dropped a bit since classes started again...yup my Software Developmet class is kicking my butt and that's where a lot of my time has been put into. I'm definitely a lot better than I was last year where I think I dropped out of the boards for an entire month before I slowly crept back...

...at anywhich rate, currently I'm trying to overhaul some of the backend logic that goes behind all the computation that you see. My Soft Dev class really taught me some stuff that I was originally doing inefficiently so now I'm kind of reworking some old cold before I get to the point of no return. Hopefully, you'll see some improvements here and there! More hopefully soon!

In anything, PLEASE KEEP SENDING ME THOSE PSTAT FILES!

Honor,

I have a question....does your Team MVP Leaderboard take into account penalties?!? it seems to me that quite a few of the players in there are on teams that have birdie penalties....

my other question.....can you account for birdie penalties on individual players so that if a GM uses a 'star' player extensively above & beyond normal realms, then they should be penalised....

any thoughts?!?

In true e-mail form:
>I have a question....does your Team MVP Leaderboard take into account
>penalties?!? it seems to me that quite a few of the players in there are on teams
>that have birdie penalties....
It does...well at least it should...can you show me an example, the x, of something that looks fishy?

>my other question.....can you account for birdie penalties on individual players so >that if a GM uses a 'star' player extensively above & beyond normal realms, then >they should be penalised....
Haahahah the McGrady 2005 factor... I would have to do some deep data mining on last years team stats from the real NBA and work out percentages and if it goes beyond an acceptable level then the team would get penalized. GREAT IDEA! But that's very very possible.

note: I just wish we could apply the birdie board to online LIVE gaming(my new love right now...which I suck at right now) because Kobe/McGrady over-users should be strangled!

UPDATE on HONOR GLOW: Most of you have probably noticed my disappearing act...again...the last couple of weeks. My software development class just got done with a midterm and I'm pretty swamped in other areas of my life besides school... I really hate it because I love the Birdie board project... Perhaps I just need more people to say..."HECK YEH I'm going to SUBMIT my Stats" more often to keep me on my toes(or I should stop playing Live Online)

The X...I got your pstats, I'll be letting you know the results soon here!

obviously I don't want you spending an enormous amount of time, but maybe, rather than going through every player....start with the stars, each team's star who is likely to be a team MVP, plus the one or two others like Bogut who have made it as team MVP....although a snag in this plan would be generated players like L. Patrick (N) hmm....maybe you could have individual high-end averages for each respective position....it would cut down a lot of time & might be easier to implement....say for example, in NBA last season, no SG averaged over 7rpg, so you could implement a threshold of 8rpg or something for all SG's & if over, then penalised....although I'm only really talking from team MVP perspective....actually don't know if that would work....it would really have to be already linked up to what is already going on over there at live GMC when the stats are 'scrutinized' by your birdie machine....

ahh well, just a thought  as for my pstats, they might be worse than last submission due to that 2-for-1 trade I did

Okay...all's who's submitted their pstat files!
I got on a role last weekend and of course the boards were down...suck...so now that things are a rollin' let's get back into the swing of things! Expect your shout out before Saturday!

:!: NEW Added Top FT% on the running leaderboard so look out for that in upcoming shout outs!

NOTE on my Software Development classes: I've been learning a lot of that's going to help out our little project here...some in the LiveCard area(which has been pitiful at stretches...but improved) and mostly my infrastructure of processing your stats..eventually down the line it'll make things speedier in my response time. All in a good days work though!

Remember to keep those stats coming!

 I did get your pstat file and have computed it, and as you know I obtained two of your screen shots to implement into your Live Cards...This week I have been working on my software development Final so things have been crazy... I'm looking forward to trying to implement all the cool things I've learned it's just a matter of making the time... ...I'm trying trying to be a decent Sonics fan too as I am currently typing only about 5 blocks away from Key Arena...but alas, I can only do so much

 More to come though! We have a new leader on the Birdie Board 06! ...and I'm restructuring my code so that improvements happen faster, and hopefully means that Shout-outs won't take 3 weeks to post! ...but yes, please keep sending those stats in!

Recent Updates:
iLLuzionz(to be posted soon)

Jug's Pacer's Dynasty:
http://www.nbaliveforums.com/ftopic33945-150.php

Bosh4's Celtic Dynasty(to be posted soon)

As you can see, quite some activity in recent days AND more updates in the making. I really have to start applying my programing knowledge in the next 4 months as I'll be applying for a Software Engineer position when school is over...and so the Birdie Project is the first creative outlet of mine! So, if there are any encouragers out there...I'm gonna need it!

...and if there are GM's with Dynasties to spurt out stats...I'm the man here!

I'll try to take pictures of things you normally don't see in Live...perhaps the rude ticket holder, the barf on the back of the chairs, the loudmouth fan behind you(that happened to me last game)

Nevertheless...I'll "try" to have fun...

Honor, do you want me to send you a picture for the Livecard? The headshot and the back action shot?

Tell me the dimensions of the headshot and i'll make it. if there's one already made then just tell me to send you an action shot.

'headshot area' (202 x 123) and the action shot is 202x287... Thanks Jugs! I was hoping to hear from you on that...

...Nice Block shot Earl Watson!

Right now I'm in working progress with the 'authentication' project on liveGMC.com. I've been wanting to do this for awhile and glad it's going to roll out here hopefully by the weekend so you Birdie Board vets won't have to wait for me to compute your proficiency scores and find out who your Team MVP is(however, many times, this is a dumb question as most of you know which player you rely on 95% of the time) Nevertheless, it'll make turn around time faster.

 Some things that are on the close forefront of projects:
* LiveCard image improvements (especially in Firefox browsers yechhhh)
* Improved layout in GM central
* Improved Database migration of information which means…better 'global' stats on the fly…yeh...

Let's see how many of these I can attack before the playoffs end!
