First of all I'd like to thank Andrew for releasing quality roster updates. I'd say his are the most "complete" updates that come out. I refuse to download anyone's but his. I'm sure most of you can relate.
So taking that into consideration, can't we give the guy a break? Really...
With each update he releases it seems that the problems never cease. These complaints about the ratings have really got slow down, as they're what make up a good 80% of the issues that Andrew's bothered about.
Why not just list the large scale changes? Will there REALLY be any significant effect if a rating is raised by 4-6 numbers? For those who think there would be, then ask yourselves if it's really worth mentioning?
EA's ratings aren't great, I know. But they're not THAT bad. By listing these stupid small changes, we only prolong the next release.
Not that anyone will agree, but I think we should only list some major changes. Using some examples...
Al Harrington, Atlanta's leading scorer, but a FG rating of 65? I was told by a lot of people that it should be raised by at least 10. Others would say the same about Gerald Wallace, maybe even a higher increase.
Should Ben Gordon's FG rating be an 87? I wouldn't think. He'll have his streaks but this rating does not correspond with what he's averaging this year. I've heard people say it should be put down by 10 or more.
Mike James is one of Toronto's leading scorers now. Do his stats reflect a FG rating of 68? I wouldn't think. Raise it by a good 10 points.
Chris Paul with a passing rating of 70... He's among the league leaders in assists and the players he's amongst all have a rating of over 80.
I remember reading a post about Hedo Turk. His FG rating is a 69, but there have been several games where he's led the team in scoring. High 70's I say
We've all seen Raja Bell do things we thought he couldn't do. He deserves a major overhaul. Especially in the 3PT category.
So do Mehmet Okur, David West, and Boris Diaw, all of which are candidates for MIP.
Anyway, the list goes on, but here's where I'm going with this.
All these complaints about little tweaks are senseless. Why bother raising a stat at all if it's only going to be raised by anything less than 6 or 7 points? We, as spectators can't really make such precise judgements.
If we're going to make a suggestion about a player, make sure your suggestion is even worth considering. All these little tweaks are stupid. Just because a player has a low rating in a specific category doesn't mean he can't do squat in that field of play.
