Total n00b needs basic gameplay help

Postby Phatferd on Wed Feb 15, 2006 11:12 am

Hey guys, I just picked this game up yesterday after finding this site and I wanted some general tips, if you don't mind.

Is there a way to pass to a specific player? Say I see an open guy under the basket, but I have 2 closer players and hit my pass button, it will throw the ball to one of the closer guys. I want to be able to hit the man under the basket.

What exactly does the superstar trigger do? I press it, but I dunno what to do.

Lastly, GIVE ME SOME DEFENSIVE HELP!!! I am horrible, lol. All I do is try to steal and keep my guy between the man and the basket. I always foul trying to steal.

If you can find the 'Configure Controller' option under Options (though I'm not sure if there is one on 360), look for the button for 'Direct Pass'. Basically if you hold that button, above the players' heads will be a button that you can press, such as the 'Shoot' button. If you want to pass to the guy with 'Shoot' above his head, hold the Direct Pass button and then press the Shoot button, and you'll pass to Mr. Shoot. If there's no Configure Controller, look in the manual for the Direct Pass button

You also have to press the face buttons to do FSS things, like power dunks and flashy passes. It depends on the FSS type the player is.

You have to do it at the precise moment, and with good defensive players. Don't try to strip Iverson from the ball using Danny Fortson, it will most probably end in a foul. You could always use the defensive FSS.

Hope it helps. (Y)

Thanks guys. Why doesn't it just show you what button to press when you select direct pass instead of the function? It would be so much easier, lol. Is there a way to format which player is which button for direct pass? Like can I set (X) to be the SF, (A) to be the PG, etc... I really hate having to press down on my left analog to pass to someone, I would so much rather make it an easier button to press.

How do you play a post game? I am having a hard time trying to get my offensive player with the ball to back down his opponent. Is there a button to push to get your back turned and back the player down? From here I would like to do a power dribble or hop and create seperation or do a spin move.

Push the right analog stick down (not in, down) to back down. After that, you can press the Pro-Hop/Drop Step button to make a move ... or use a Freestyle Superstar move if the player can.

With the direct pass thing, the only way to format it would be to change the button for the function, can you do that on 360? If not, you're out of luck.

Also pratice and get good at free throws cause if you can hit most of them it is much easier to win than if you miss almost all of them.

Try to press the off-ball button, its just like direct pass but u can control the player u selected to wherever you want him to go, u can control ur big men to post up or even set a pick for your shooter to free him up
