Primacy Fix

Postby Andrew on Mon Jan 02, 2006 4:51 pm

I've made a few discoveries working on the rosters which may be useful for those looking to correct Dynasties started with earlier versions of the rosters, as well as those that have been affected by the game's tendency to mess up Primacy ratings when injuries/player edits occur.

Last updated: 14/02/06

With the automatic recalculations of Primacy ratings, statistics and performance are often messed up in Dynasty Mode no matter what the default ratings or the adjusted Primacy ratings in the roster update may be. I've found that in most cases players aren't too badly affected when working in the default rosters (ie creating or editing a player) but injuries in Dynasty Mode can cause a problem. However, the game doesn't do too bad a job recalculating the ratings for role players and benchwarmers, with a couple of exceptions. If you'd like to adjust the Primacy ratings in your Dynasty to compensate for some recalculations either through injuries or after editing a player, here are some key players to look out for as well as their default Primacy rating in the latest version (1.03) of the NLSC roster update:

!!! IMPORTANT !!!

Be sure to make a backup of your Dynasty before editing any dbf files, just in case something goes wrong.

Players

Primoz Brezec - 40
LeBron James - 99
Larry Hughes - 85
Jerry Stackhouse - 70
Devin Harris - 40
Josh Howard - 55
Marquis Daniels - 35

Elton Brand - 85
Corey Maggette - 85
Kobe Bryant - 99

Chris Paul - 65
David West - 60
Speedy Claxton - 70

Stephon Marbury - 80
Jamal Crawford - 80
Channing Frye - 65
Kyle Korver - 40
Samuel Dalembert - 40
Amare Stoudemire - 99
Steve Nash - 35
Shawn Marion - 90
Michael Finley - 60
Donyell Marshall - 60
Gerald Wallace - 60
Eric Snow - 30
Zydrunas Ilgauskas - 51
Dwyane Wade - 99
Shaquille O'Neal - 85
Zaza Pachulia - 63
Joe Johnson - 80

Thanks Andrew! I appreciate it, Nash won't score anymore 33ppg and Kobe won't score 9ppg.

Basically it's a rating that will affect how many shots a player will take in simmed games. Maybe even a little in palyed games aswell.

No problem Heiks, hopefully it helps out those who not only want to update their Dynasty games to reflect some improvements in the new roster updates, but also correct Primacy ratings when they get screwed up by injuries. ;)

Open up players.dbf (be sure to make a backup first!), locate the player you wish to change then locate the PRIMACY column and change their rating.

You can open it up with DB Commander, which is available in the Downloads section. You can players.dbf in the appropriate saves folder under My Documents/NBA Live 06.

Would you suggest changing the primacy ratings to prefered values so you can choose which players on you team take the shots (like a coach would)?
e.g. Bowen keeps taking more shots than Igoudala, Bogut, Griffin and nearly as much as Iverson. I want this to change.

Absolutely, that's what the Primacy rating also controls.

Hey Andrew, I understand that a player having 99 means they are gonna have a lot of shots, but how does it work between all the players, ie if you had say Kobe with 99, then 11 other players with 10 for primacy, Kobe is gonna get a lot more shots, than if he was on a team with 11 other players with 80 for primacy.

So how do you work out how much each player should get??

He'll still get the lion's share but it would be distributed a bit more evenly. It's also useful for bench players who need to score in double digits, for example Jamal Crawford, Jerry Stackhouse and Michael Finley. By keeping their Primacy high they'll average a more realistic number of points per game off the bench, which is where many of the problems in the stats/simulation lie: bench players not really doing anything worthwhile in simulation.

Thanks for that Andrew, helps alot. Still EA should have seen this in testing, cos after every couple of simmed weeks im having to DBF edit a lot of players Primacy ratings so as to get their stats back to normal.

Absolutely. Basically as soon as a rating becomes hidden and controlled by the game it causes problems, or so it would seem. It wouldn't matter so much if they were hidden but static, but even better if they were accessible from within the game's Edit function and remained as they were...or not recalculated incorrectly.

Heh, Lebron James was averaging 6 pts, starting all the games, and he had a 98 overall rating... ...he had a primacy rating of 4...

Exactly why we need to make adjustments ourselves and why NBA Live 07 has to correct this issue. ;)

My f***ing primacy ratings keep resetting!!! Manu Ginobili keeps getting put at 22 and LeBron back at 60 while goddamn TJ Ford takes like 25 shots a game. I keep changing the ratings to 99 for Lebron, 80 for Manu, 70 for Bogut and like 30 for TJ but I go back and check after a few matches, and they have reset again. Why is it doing this?

It's a bug, and a frustrating one at that.

14/2/06 Update: I've made a few additional changes in v1.05 of the roster release. As I said in the release notes I'm still working around that, creating all the All-Stars seems to have knocked the Primacy ratings around a bit. I'll be doing some more work over the next couple of versions, I'll keep everyone posted.

Maybe you do, but how about rookies? If you edit the primacy ratings then the YOU get to decide who becomes ROTY ... and it isn't fun anymore.
