Adjusting player stats

Is it possible to change the stats of a player using DBF editor during the season without screwing up the game?

All i want to do is change the ratings (FG, 3pt etc...) no salaries or teams or anything

It certainly is. But make a backup just in case.

is that backup in case i accidentally change something other than stats, or is there a chance that changing the stats will do something bad

Well, both I guess. But mainly in case the dbf gets corrupted and the save cannot be used anymore.
