OFFENSE
Post Up - a player establishes position in the post. You can then feed him the ball, and go to work. Once the player in the post has the ball, he can back down his opponent and execute a number of post moves, or he can kick the ball back out for an open jumpshot.
Three Point - Your team's three point shooters get into position outside the three point line. As soon as you can free a player for a good shot, get him the ball.
Pick and roll - The player with the ball will call for a pick. A teammate will come over and set one. The player with the ball then runs off the pick, while his teammate turns and moves towards the basket, if he has an opening. You can take advantage of the pick and shoot the ball, or hit your teammate who should be on his way to the basket.
Isolation - Your teammates get out of the way, allowing you to take your defender one-on-one.
DEFENSE
Double team - a teammate will come over to double team the player with the ball. Somewhat effective but risky strategy to apply to jumpshooters, effective way of stripping the ball from your opponent when he's posting up. Also good to use against Isolation.
Full Court Press - Your players will pressure the ball from the time it is inbounded. Risky if your opponents have good ballhandlers, since they can usually find a way to work it past you before dumping it inside, where your defense is lacking.
Man to man - Each player concentrates on his designated defensive assignment. Poor defenders will be exposed, so be sure to make the switch if your teammate's man is beaten.
Zone Defense - A player defends an area of the court, rather than closely defending a player. Remember, a player must not stray too far from his man, else a Defensive 3 Second Violation will be called. Effective strategy for clogging up the lanes and defending against penetration. If your opponent keeps on getting easy trips to the basket, try playing some Zone.
