Gamepads

Postby luciano_davidwesley on Sat May 24, 2003 1:13 pm

Can anyone give me some advise as to which analogue gamepad is the best for NBA live 2003 (and where i can buy it).

Is the Logitech Wingman Rumblepad the best or is there a better one?

Thanks heaps :D

I use the Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Power. It's a good pad, I'd recommend it. (Y) It's USB, so if you're running Windows 98, you'll need to download the official patch.

I got mine from the Harvey Norman Computer Superstore at Bennetts Green for about $70. Of course, if you're not in Newcastle, that's not really an option. You might find it at a Tandy's store, Electronic Boutique, or any other computer/games store.

I have the aforementioned wingman rumblepad and I love it. Now just from looking at pictures I personally wouldn't want the thrustmaster as it had 4 buttons on the front as opposed to the wingman's 6. Another thing I can't tell is if it has a 'L1' and 'L2' as in two buttons on the back edge. Which the wingman has.

Yeah, the Thrustmaster has four buttons on top (like the PS2 controller), as well as two trigger buttons on the back of the handles. Like the PS2 controller, both analog sticks are also buttons. It might be a little bulky for some, but it's not a bad pad overall. But get one that suits you. (Y)

I saw these at epinions.com (through a google search)

On the left is the Thrustmaster Firestorm, in the middle is the Logitech Wingman cordless, and on the right is the Logitech Wingman with cord.

Just remembered: It's also worth mentioning that you can use your PS2 controller with the PC, if you buy the appropriate adapter (not sure about the availability in Australia or the price). The only downside is that you cannot customise it as much as you can with PC gamepads - or so some users have reported.

I've got the Gamepad Pro, even though it's not analog it's great for games like Live, FIFA, etc.

Get the Thrustmaster. I got one yesterday and LOVE it. Extremely responsive. The D-Pad is it's one fault. Like if I want to hit down, sometimes it hits the angle. It's not definitive enough. And no, I don't have puggy thumbs. :D I use my Nostromo N45 when I want I need to use a D-pad.

Luciano already bought the Logitech Wingman. But it's nice to see another Thrustmaster user. :)

You have to tap the Playcalling button twice. Which button is the Playcalling button depends on your controller configuration.

Do you mean official patch from EA (just for NBA Live) or official patch from Microsoft (for Windows 9x in general)?

The official patch from EA for NBA Live 2003, though any upgrades for Windows 9x wouldn't hurt either.

thats a problem, because the playcalling button on my config is actually the left d-pad on the wingman, so I still don't know how to intentionally foul the opponent. :(

What you can do, it's what I do, is use the d-pad for moving your guy, since that's all it's good for not being able to call timeout/intentional foul. I set R1 to playcall and just press that and shoot at the same time and it's post up, other buttons for other plays. You could also use the other R and L's, but this is just me.

More info on the official patch (and how to download it) can be found in our NBA Live 2003 FAQ.
